Default Does protein help you get better when you're sick?

I know its good to eat stuff like chicken soup and oranges when you're sick but do you need to eat protein like meat and dairy? Or is it better to eat simple, easy to digest carbohydrates like pasta and cereal? I am eating turkey right now but I wonder if its taxing on your body to digest protein when you're sick. I don't have a microwave at my new place yet, otherwise I'd be eating oatmeal...

I don't know but I personally eat tons of fresh fruits and veggies plus drink water when I am sick.

Depends on the illness or injury ("feed a fever, starve a cold.") Muscle injuries are obviously helped by more protein......It's something to webmd- when sick.

from what I know about alkalinity versus acidity-- it's good to eat foods that will alkalize your system. Now it's not something that I put a lot of research into-- but stuff that seemed acidic, like oranges and whatnot, would somehow alkalize the system--

stuff like meat and dairy made the system more acidic-- no good.

I figure-- the stuff that causes you to have mucus (also bad) after eating it is bad. You don't get mucus after eating fruit and veggies but you do get it after a heavy protein meal with potatoes and milk and ice cream and stuff.

but if it's lean meat, like fish or lean chicken-- then yeah, probably help with energy.

although-- also keep in mind that sometimes it's better not to eat when you're sick, because your body needs as much energy as possible to heal itself, and not spend a bunch of energy on digesting food for you-- so in this case, the fruits and veggies require the least bit of energy to digest versus meats and dairy which means more energy your body can devote to fighting the sickness.
