    Default Some people defend strippers!

Looks like there are a lot of assholes with misconceptions out there, but also some people who are willing to defend us.

    http://www.city-data.com/forum/relat...tripper-3.html

Yet another forum addressing strippers (I'm feeding my anger monkey by reading them)...but some of the people writing in these forums are actually defending us.

    Small victories, ladies. Small victories.

I never got the argument that we all have low self esteem....according to them we are showing "every hole on our body"....I'd say you have to have quite a bit of self esteem to do that.

Most chicks whine about their body. A stripper would probably be more likely to take care of it and think of herself as sexy becuase her income depends on it.

Sure there will always be exceptions and there will be strippers with SERIOUS issues (more than any "normal" woman) but there are also tons of people who don;t strip because they have serious self esteem issues. That argument jsut makes no sense.

People are always like "Why is such a smart girl like you working in a place like this?"

My response: "Why aren't MORE smart girls dancing in this place??"

How would you like to make $100+ an hour, set your own schedule, learn about thousands of different kinds of people, etc., etc., and never have to touch anyone in the process? Yeah...let me think about that one...

I have more autonomy stripping than I ever had working at Hallmark, grocery stores, etc. We're pushed to the fringe of society, yet references to strippers saturate the media. Why do people freak out about sexuality and how it's represented? I know I'm preaching to the choir, and that this is an overly discussed topic, but it makes me crazy...

I still say, as I do every time a thread like this comes up to keep the stereotypes coming and tell all your chick friends. The more girls seeing strippers as dirty low lifes the better. Stay out my way.

I'm confident that what I'm doing is smart as you said to be working for "tons" of money, not lowering myself to take peoples shit...yha...I'm an idoit, getting paid for what girls at the normal clubs do for free...I'm a duuuuurrrrrttttyyyy slut fool. ahah

Ugh, I belong to a bridal forum that's got a couple of self righteous, anti-stripper members. I got into a HUGE interwebz brawl with one of them and, to my surprise, I had quite a few people pipe up and defend strippers.

It was ridiculous though... no matter what I said the douche kept saying things like, "Really? You've never had a substance abuse problem?!" or, "I just don't think picking up cash with your vagina shows you have much self respect"... she was OBSESSED with picking up money with your vagina!

    People are fucked up.

I don't feel bad about my job....I know people usually also hate cops, people who work for the IRS, lawyer, repo men, subpoena servers, etc....It could always be worse. You can't please everyone, you're not supposed to try.......

    Smiley new to sw

Hi All- Im new to site & can't get enough of it!! I've just returned to dancing after taking 7 yrs off and finding this site has been fantastic!
I'm so thankful to find a place where I can actually relate, be understood & be honest. It seems so hard in clubs to find girls that will share info, stories, & be real.
Just wanted to introduce myself, and say "thanks" to you all-
    warmly, scorpion love- fl.

Haha exactly! How many "normal" girls are dancing topless in bars and going home, drunk, with random people every night...and not getting paid OR judged for it? Hell, if you're going to dance naked, at least make something off of it...

Just found out that my best friend from high school has been talking shit about me for what I do; this coming from a girl who has admitted to pity-fucking random guys.

When someone asked why someone as smart as Fabio was a model, he replied with, "I'm smart enough to know what makes me money."

I think they are getting judged for it... I mean, look - here we are judging them, right now.

Seriously - how often can we really get worked up because someone on the internet thinks bad things about strippers? We can't change it. We might as well enjoy it. Like kitsch, but different. Like these opinions are not particularly well thought out, we certainly don't feel that they are accurate (really - "I have nothing in common with a guy who would date a strippers"? Puh-lease)... what do we care?

Sheesh, they want to see drama and substance abuse, they should start talking about paramedics. Holy freaking crap! Talk about drug use.

I also agree with Charlie - how many times have you wandered into a Bailey's at midnight and seen drunk coeds grinding their coochies on some random frat boy's junk? Ewww! Stop giving up the goods, lady; you're lowering the asking price, ya hussy!

Jenny--I didn't mean to imply judgment with that statement. I was simply pointing out how ironic it is that many women do exactly what we do, but the second money becomes involved, these same women find it acceptable to judge what we do.

Plus, I think there's a possibility that we have more of a right to be offended by those anti-stripper activists out there than, say, waitresses...simply because we have so few opportunities to represent ourselves accurately in the media. This is how racism works--the dominant ideologies are the ones choosing how each group will be represented...and strippers are nearly always completely pigeonholed as drug abusers, etc.

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to turn into an ethical clusterfuck...I was merely pointing out how hypocritical society can be (again, I realize this has been reiterated countless times on this site).

Ugh I get so down when I hear this sort of thing from customers. I dont even bother trying to change their misconceptions anymore. Let them believe whatever makes them feel better about themselves. I just wish theyd take their comments to the local mcdonalds and try to tell them their better than that. Im making a living like anyone else. I got this customer a month ago telling me how Im to pretty to nice of a person to smart to ect. to do this. I mean the guy followed me around for an hour and harrassed me with this shit. I finnally told him my time cost money and If he wanted to try to save my soul Hed have to do it in the vip. I got a few dances out of him. But what a downer.

People that have all these weird ideas about us all being abused and whoring and on drugs, obviously don't know any real strippers. The problem with this whole mentality is that we cease to be human beings once our job is revealed. Most strippers I know look and sound just like every other woman out there. Maybe slightly more attractive but you see my point.

I dunno. I've said before in the context of "is a stripclub cheating" that I think the fact that we do it for money does make a difference. Obviously I don't think it makes the same difference other people do, but I think doing what I do for free in a bar makes for a very different kind of encounter than doing it for money in a strip club. Plus, I think a woman talking about how we have no sense of dignity, would likely think it was pretty undignified to do it for free in a bar.

As for media representations - I think it was here after I went on a rant about strippers in "The Replacements" ("Yes, because strippers can't spell; and they have no idea what clothing is appropriate outside of a strip club, being chained to the wall their whole life; and yes, that is exactly how strippers approach a man - by offering a near stranger a blow job through hand gestures. It's like I'm looking at my life.") that someone said that it is not like the media is bent on accurate, empathetic descriptions of any profession. I mean, I know a lot of lawyers who aren't thrilled with the depiction of lawyers in the media. I understand what you're saying - like when I read one comment like that I can get upset. When I read many in a row I start to experience an indignation numbness born of "so many retards... I don't have time to educate them all." Like keep in mind that it is a thankless and unpaid job to try to eradicate stupidity on the internet.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

I find it amusing how people can rip on strippers to make themselves look/feel better, but then go on to comment about how WE'RE the ones with low self-esteem.

    So interesting.

she was obsessed with party dancers. maybe she saw one at one time-- and yeah, party dancers have a very WIDE range of stuff that they do, and some (not nearly the majority though) bill themselves as dancers when really they're prostitutes.

and as far as that dollar trick pffft!
you don't pick it up with your cooch--

you place a bill with a crease lengthwise on a guy's face, chin to forehead, take your finger, lick it and then place a line of spit to the side of your cooch in the crease where it meets the leg, and then side down at an angle.

so technically, you're not picking money up with your vagina-- it just looks like you are (though I'm sure some dancers do, or some are just so drunk they do the trick wrong.)
