    Default Buying a treadmill

Even tho I have a gym membership and also pay for personal training sessions I am going to buy a treadmill for home I've decided. Sometimes I cant be bothered going to the gym but I really want to increase my cardio fitness.

Im trying to win a treadmill on ebay but keep getting outbid.
I want to pay about $800 maximum.

Do any of u have your own treadmills? Do u find it's worth having one at home? Do u use it reguarly or does it just collect dust?

Personally, I hate treadmills but I have a bike for cardio - so somewhat of the same concept. I've been using mine. It's easy to just be able to get up and get on it and it's kind of quiet, so I can watch tv when I'm on it. Or if all the sudden - I just feel like getting some cardio in, it's right there.

sorry if this sounds dumb, but can you just bypass the treadmill and run outside?

But if it was me and I had to get a treadmill, I'd do craigslist. It's much better for large items that are difficult to ship and there are TONS of them on there. And you know lots of them are barely used. You might have to pay someone (who you can also find on CL!) to move it for you.

Try that in the winter or rain.....

I loved my treadmill. I used it a lot and made it a routine to run 30 minutes before my shower every morning. I wouldn't have done that outside. It is definitely worth getting a good one. I had a cheap one at first and the belt would slip which was scary.

Maybe try hiring one first to see if you are actually going to use it? My mum did this at her place and realised that she didn't use it at home very much and actually preferred going to the gym, so took it back after a couple of months.

^Also craigslist is pretty crappy and non-existent in Australia

^ Yep. I have one. I do run outside in Fall / Spring ( which I prefer ), but winter / summer in Utah has pretty harsh weather . I definitely would recommend this. I bought mine used off craigslist.

I figured that was coming, but she already said she had a gym membership and this was a supplemental workout.

I would do other work out too but I just loved the whole "get outta bed and onto the treadmill" without worrying that I smelled and my hair was horrible in my PJ's to go into public. You are SO MUCH more motivated to run when it's right there. I think a super motivated person could do the outdoor running thing on a regular basis and make it work.

^ I run outside without my hair and makeup done. My neighboors don't give a damn.

I had a treadmill before the home damage, and used it alot. I do plan on getting it replaced. I too have a gym membership with trainer, and there are soem days where you just can't be bothered to leave the house. I love having one, and it got alot of use. I can't run as well outside, the hard surface impact gives me shin splints.

Go for it, its worth it!

I have every piece of training equipment known to man (stepper, elliptical, bike, treadmill) and it's really nice to have and effective...as long as youa ctually use it and not as a coat hanger.

I prefer the treadmill because I can see exactly how fast I;m going, how far I've gone, set inclines, etc.

Also it's great because I get the urge to exercise at odd hours, like late at night or obscenely early, and I dont live in the greatest area, so I certainly couldn't run outside.

Yeh it's winter here right now plus I dont really like running around the streets coz sometimes I dont really like leaving the house due to my social anxiety. Plus I want to run as soon as I wake up and I'm too self conscious to leave the house without doing my hair at least.

yey i won a treadmill on ebay!! i would have got it really cheap if it wasn't for all the dummy bidders that the seller used - with names like bidder_1, bidder_2, bidder_4, Bidder_5 that all bidded on this item. But Im happy that I won it for $515!! yey

Honestly, I think where we live winters are more prohibitive than most of the normal world! lol. Especially compared to Austrailia. -30 degrees and ten feet of snow aren't exactly marathon conditions. It's hard to breathe and there's no sidewalk!

I like the treadmill because I can watch TV while running. At the gym they mostly just play the news or bullshit like Tila Tequila. But when I'm training for serious running, I'm always surprised by how much more knowledged I feel. I'm so up on current events, and then I realize it's because I'm watching 40min of CNN everyday whilst running to nowhere. Kinda double duty!

My opinion is that a worthwhile treadmill is big, loud, and space consuming. Unless you're really going to use it lots, something like a little stationary bike is easier to store. Save the big appliances for the gym. That's my philosophy.

i can say i like treadmills BUT, i have bad knee probs an cant use them, i descovered this after running for 2 weeks, my knee hurt for 4 weeks after an i could hardly walk, now all i use is my lateral thigh trainer and i tell ya its done wonders, i use it 30 mins a day on the middle setting, for a cardio and toning workout, mixed with sum stomach crunches, squats and weights, its only 1 n 1/2 hours a day i also like to add 30 mins of stretching too, so 2 hours a day, i have seen a true diffrence in my figure n boy am i loving it

For gym quality machines, I have used this place before: http://www.usafitnessdirect.com/default.asp

I am a stairmaster junkie and the one I got is exactly the same as the gym. They completely strip them down, rebuild the engine, repaint, reprogram and repowdercoat the metal. It's just like new at half the cost.
