Default Men's Club possible bust- should I be seeking a lawyer?

I work at the Men's Club of Dallas. Last night, two uniformed officers came in to verify information from some of the girls. I was one of the dancers chosen. They verified information like height, weight, eye color, and tattoos. They also verified my home address.

I asked how the particular dancers were chosen, and the officer who was verifying my info was very vague. "We don't really know just yet." "We don't have details, we're just here to verify information."

One manager's theory is that there was an undercover in the club who radioed stage names to these officers upon seeing anything that could constitute 'lewd dancing.' said manager thinks they may send us tickets in the mail. Obviously, I would never just accept the charges and pay the ticket... If I did get a ticket in the mail I'd immediately seek legal counsel.

I'm extremely irritated. I see full on, frontal grinding at this club on a daily basis, and have seen extras such as fingering/hands down a customer's pants rather frequently lately. I am by far one of the cleanest dancers here, yet i'm sitting here freaking out while the extras girls have zero worries.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any advice?

Hmmm, with the new fingerprinting and background check rules, maybe they were just checking that random girls have their info on file. Have you heard anything since?

It was just last night that this happened. That was another theory we considered. The officers asked for specific dancers by stage name, and all the girls they asked for were indeed working.

yeah-- I'd start trying to track down girls on here who'd gone through busts, contact the club's lawyer (while finding your own lawyer as well-- do NOT believe everything the club lawyer says. s/he is just there to cover the club's ass. NOT yours. but s/he can be a good start.) I would also contact vice for your city and be proactive. In some scenarios it's bad to bring extra attention to yourself-- in this situation though, I'd personally rather contact vice, ask what the normal process is for this, if they were likely just checking that the club wasn't hiring minors or if they were assigning tickets and then ask the best way to fight it.

I think that if vice saw a dancer asking intelligent questions they'd be less likely to tag her for a money-making ticket for the city, and more likely to believe her when she says that she's one of the cleanest dancers in the club.

but it's a crap shoot. You do need to gather more info though-- whether behind the scenes or up front.

I'm wondering: are you going back to work there while this is still ambiguous?

What are these? They could change the procedure for a bust in TX?

Thank you for your response! I have still been working. I've been very careful, but technically I could get busted for doing something as innocent as accepting a tip in a garter. I really need to be working right now, but wish I could take time off until it is less ambiguous. :/ that's not an option, at least until the end of the month.

    Any input?

    Thank you,
    B

That was common practice in Colorado - if dancers in what ever city/state you are in (Texas...Arizona???) are 'licensed', cops will now and then do routine ID checks.

It stopped after 6 cops were 'checking' an almost empty club for 30 minutes while a robbery/homicide occurred next door at a fast food joint...seems the good citizens felt the cops priorities might be a bit askew ...

Unless you were violating city/county/state laws, I wouldn't be too concerned. I'm guessing you're going to get 'let's go out' offers rather than a citation.

If you were doing something wrong they would have told you right then. It sounds like they were just verifying your info. I wouldn't worry.
