Default Gel nails - were they botched?

I decided to get my nails done today for the first time ever. I've never had them before, but with a little research i decided on gel nails and went to this place. The technician started to work on my nails but when they were done, a few things bugged me:

a few of my nails had been like..flattened. Very unattractive in my eyes. I rather enjoy the moderate arch of my natural nails.

On closer inspection, there seems to be a gap between my natural nail and the tip on a few of my fingers. I thought that could lead to an infection?

I will not be returning to that salon due to some shady things I witnessed but i want to know if I should go to another salon to have them looked at and/or fixed?

aesthetically they're not correct. it's a pity you can't go back to the other salon and have them fixed.

I too learned my lesson about this and will, from now on, only go to a place recommended by my gf.

I don't know about infection-- they're supposed to push back your cuticle and not cut it for this reason. if they cut a lot of cuticle off then yeah, there's a chance but I don't think it's very big unless they didn't disinfect their tools.

do you mean a gap like it looks like they grew out some? because no, as long as the nails are tight, that won't cause an infection.

You can fet a fungus from water and dirt getting trapped between your real nail and the artificial one. I'd get them taken off immediately.

Always go with your gut on these places. You can go online and type in the state board of cosmetology for your state. There should be a listing of the grades of each salon.

erk... some nail artists don't realize there's THREE dimensions to a nail. They only do length and width and forget height matters. I hate that.

    Thank you!

Yeah, as time goes on, my fingers began to hurt from my nail being flattened like that. They are being taken off tomorrow by someone reputable. Asked around at work.

For the record I went to another salon to have them looked at. The nail person was gawking at how badly they were done and was incensed that they never bothered to run the shape past me before shaping the nail, cutting me with the nail file, flattening out my nail which has a high arch to begin with, getting gel all over my cuticles, leaving bubbles in the gel, etc. She took the old ones off free of charge and put new ones on and they look fantastic!
