    Default Laxatives

    Okay, so I normally go at least once a day. However, the last few days it hasn't been as much as I'd like. I was feeling bloated and yucky and I think I'm borderline ED anyway so I felt like I NEEDED to get rid of the bloat and anything that may have been causing me to be a little heavier.

    Anyhow, I bought some chewable Ex-lax chocolate things today. You're only supposed to eat 1 or 2 squares a day but I ate 10 this morning and it was awesome. I lost about 2 pounds just from "going". What are the long term effects of doing this maybe once a week? It was awesome eating some chocolate, losing a few pounds and having a flatter tummy.. I liked it.

    If you're going to flame or be rude.. don't bother.

    Animals are my friends, and I don't eat my friends.

    the active ingredient is senna. if you're going to do it once a week, i'd suggest just getting pure senna leaf tea. it's cheaper too. and they make it chocolate flavored, if you don't want the pure stuff.

    It can make your bowels rely on the laxatives to go at all. It'll also make you dehydrated.

    I've heard a lot about lax abuse but I really don't think it's that bad. When people use them after they eat thinking that the food goes undigested out their ass and therefore they have less calories I'll tell people to just stop because that's stupid.

    Did it taste like chocolate? Regular laxatives don't work on me I wonder if these would.

    I am not flaming you here at all just advising you. Long term use of laxatives can result in inability to go without them.

    I was not good to my body in the past now I have to take something on a regular basis to make me go. My doc adviced me to add a teaspoon of Miralax on a daily basis to a 8 ounce glass of water. I now go at least every other day but before I wasn't even going once weekly.

    Kinda off topic, but...
    For a natural cheap laxative try Epsom Salt. A TBSP in a cup of water will do the trick quick!
    I know you didn't want to know what kind to use, but I just discovered this one.

    eh I have severe issues from abusing laxatives. Trust me there comes a point and time where your body expects the laxatives in order to go. And it takes a lot after awhile to make you go to the bathroom.

    10 is really extreme just starting out. I'd be in so much pain! Not to mention dehydrated. Yeah you lose weight but you realize youll get it instantly all back from sodium etc.

    It took me MONTHS off of laxatives to function. And in order to do so I have to take 3 shots of espresso plus a venti coffee just to get things moving. And hell there are weeks, (yes weeks) where NOTHING happens. This is from years of laxative abuse.

    Think wisely about this. You went to nursing school correct? Impacted bowels=not fun.

    I've never abused laxatives before (I have only used them twice) and I rarely ever go to the bathroom. I just took three mouth fulls about 5 hours ago and still nothing. I really have nothing to lose. I suppose some people do but...not going isn't really that bad. If it makes you happy it's probably the least harmful "ED" thing to have.

    Ummm.. it's NOT the least harmful form of ED. I don't think there is a better version to have . Purging is purging.

    Anyways, it takes up to 12 hours for it to kick in usually. Your body has to absorb it.

    I was a laxative abuser for 5 years. It got to the point where I needed 2 boxes of them to have an effect on me anymore. I stopped being able to go to the toilet without the assistance of laxatives.

    I was told I had a lazy bowel and I could end up needing a colostomy bag.

    This is a very bad idea!! Not only will it damage your health it is a waste of time from a weight loss point of view - u loose water and become dehydrated. You still absorb all the fat from the food and loose nutrients. The weight loss u noticed was purely water.

    Not to mention there were several times where I shit my pants as an adult! Because my bowel movements were no longer normal sometimes the urge would come on so suddenly that i didnt make it to the toilet.

    ^ Girl! My aunt abused them had ended up with some insane stuff concerning her colon and had part of it removed!!

    laxative abuse is no joke. My grandmother has dementia, almost 90 and still goes to the bathroom to purge after dinner and now doesn't recall she did it. We also caught her hording laxatives when we were trying to find where she stashed her blood pressure meds. Its fucking sad. Beyond sad.

    Good for you!!

    As far as Gmas case is, I don't believe they were ever considered abusive in the 40's and 50's. A lot has changed medically as far as what Dr's used to deem as safe and what they realize now isn't. I know she was told to use laxatives while pregnant with my mom! My mom was over due and barely weighted 5lbs and had some health issues. I think by then she was already so addicted and honestly I'm sure her body wouldn't "go" without them she just never bothered to quit. She's gained weight now under care and doesn't have the strength to purge.

    Not meaning to scare you, and I know I'm the last person who has room to lecture anyone about health habits, but...I do know one person who abused laxatives and is now incontinent because of it. Please don't rely on them on a regular basis.

    Try green tea instead (unless you already drink it). It works about as good and is better for you.

    Maybe look at your diet to determine why you aren't going often enough. Water helps too.

    water + yoga (like a lot of water) seems to get things moving. Also apples, watermelon and a bran muffin in the morning.

    Basically if you haven't abused laxatives to the point where you can't really go..a good way to get things moving along is..

    1. one bran muffin
    2. 1/2 cup of milk
    3. a sliced up apple
    4. black coffee

    You should be having zero issues after that.

    I took laxatives regularly as a teenager with a lot of problems and let me tell you that they fucked up my body. You get addicted to them so you literally can't shit unless you take laxatives.

    I currently take fibre supplements. If you are constipated, this might be the way to go.

    Yes please stop the abuse now. You really didn't lose 2 pounds you gained it in swelling and water weight. Please get some help for this. You're young as well as me and you don't want to be in your 30's shitting on yourself or having to have part of your colon removed because it has cancer in it or is dead.

    Here is some info on lax abuse:
    http://www.medicinenet.com/melanosis_coli/article.htm
    "Melanosis coli does not cause symptoms....
    Early studies suggested that anthranoid laxatives might have carcinogenic or tumor-promoting activities in humans and that the presence of melanosis coli might signal an increased risk for the development of colorectal cancer
    ."

    http://www.healthyplace.com/Communit...laxatives.html
    "First, you should know just how exactly a laxative works. The common belief is that it will make you "lose weight." So, is this true? Absolutely NOT. A laxative performs it's duty in your colon, not in your stomach. "What is the big deal with that?" you ask. Here is the big deal - by the time food reaches the colon, all of the calories from the food have already been absorbed by the body. Yup, you read that right. You may feel as though you have lost weight after spending a day on the toilet from these pills, but the only thing you've lost is water weight which just bounces right back on. Within 48 hours of using a laxative the body retains water to make up for all that it has lost.

    After finding out that calories aren't really absorbed through the use of laxatives and that real weight hasn't been lost it is common for someone with an eating disorder to just say, "Well, I at least FEEL better and I FEEL that I've lost weight, so who cares." BUT, there are a lot of medical risks that accompany the abuse of laxatives, whether the laxative be in pill, suppository, herbal, or liquid form. Below is a list of the problems that you will encounter if you begin the treacherous road of laxative abuse:

    * Severe abdominal pain
    * Chronic Diarrhea: After repeated use of laxatives you eventually lose control of your rectum and may find a pile of you know what in your bed or underwear when you wake up.
    * Bloating
    * Dehydration
    * Gas
    * Nausea, even vomiting
    * Electrolyte Disturbances: This can lead to heart arrythmias and heart attacks
    * Chronic Constipation: I've heard stories from friends where when they tried to stop taking laxatives, they were unable to "go" for as long as a month "

    that's your flaw

    Well you said yourself that you feel boderline ED and admiting something like that is a positive step so all I am going to say here is that laxatives aren't going to fix what is really going on and in the longrun will make things alot worse.

    Maybe this is your way of reaching out for help? If so feel free to pm me as I am happy to help any way I can.

    Either way, best wishes and take care.

    My grandma was also laxative dependent. It is really fucking scary. She drank prune juice and mineral and/or castor oil daily, gave herself enemas, used Metamucil, and STILL couldn't go without a ton of laxatives (ex-lax was her fav).

    Even with the laxatives she could barely go maybe once a month or so and she was constantly being hospitalized for compaction. They would have to manually remove the feces. Yep, that's exactly what it sounds like. Quite painful according to GM.

    She tried for 2 decades to get off laxatives, but after abusing them, she literally could not go without them. Even the Dr's had no idea what to do about it.

    Aww Jas..dude I"m right there with you That was my grandmother and is here now only since she has dementia she forgets and is actually gaining weight now. But she has a poo bag

    This is my grandmother when she came to the US...to become a super star... Just an example of ED and what it looked like even 60 years ago. My entire family tree is filled with ED, including myself. I look at this photo sometimes and wonder why no one stopped her. And how or why she didn't feel pretty enough. This is ED ladies who think there are even "mild" forms. She's 5ft9 and weighs I assume maybe 80 lbs here. She now after 4 kids weights 95.
