    Default Ritalin

Does anyone use this for their dancing shifts? I used to use it all the time and I stopped using it for the month of June. My hustle sure went down!

Is that the drug prescribed for ADHD? What effect does it have?

for people with add it makes them be able to focus more. however fi you do not have it and snort it or take it, its like doing coke...a shitty, less potent coke. (not that doing any coke is good!)

My friend was prescribed it. It doesn't have any bad effects that people would notice. It's a drug mostly for children. But it enhances the will. If I need to get something done like cleaning the house, homework, or hustling, it works wonders!

well, congratulations on needing drugs to work i guess? :S

    yeah no side effects riiight...

    "What are its short-term effects?
Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a central nervous system stimulant, similar to amphetamines in the nature and duration of its effects. It is believed that it works by activating the brain stem arousal system and cortex. Pharmacologically, it works on the neurotransmitter dopamine, and in that respect resembles the stimulant characteristics of cocaine. Short-term effects can include nervousness and insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, palpitations, headaches, changes in heart rate and blood pressure (usually elevation of both, but occasionally depression), skin rashes and itching, abdominal pain, weight loss, and digestive problems, toxic psychosis, psychotic episodes, drug dependence syndrome, and severe depression upon withdrawal.
    What are its long-term effects?
High doses of stimulants produce a predictable set of symptoms that include loss of appetite (may cause serious malnutrition), tremors and muscle twitching, fevers, convulsions, and headaches (may be severe), irregular heartbeat and respirations (may be profound and life threatening), anxiety, restlessness, paranoia, hallucinations, and delusions, excessive repetition of movements and meaningless tasks, and formicaton (sensation of bugs or worms crawling under the skin)."

I didn't mean to turn this into a thread where I have to defend myself. I don't need it to work. I didn't in June. It just helps me and I was looking to hear from other women who might have used it to ask them some questions.

I never said it has no side effects. Please don't put words in my mouth. I said none that people would notice. I never noticed any in myself or in the children I've known to use it. I do recognize that all drugs have side effects in some people.

What's with all the rudeness? You have no idea how I act at work and I'm sure at least one girl on this board can vouch for me that I certainly do not act "cracked out" at work.

I came here for support, not judgement.

Nobody's perfect, I'll admit I'm certainly not. But I am actually a very intelligent person and if you are unable to discuss issues rationally, I'm glad you will butt out of this conversation.

    Hi NewMoon,
I wonder how it compares to adderall. I have moderate ADD and have only taken adderall for it but the side effects are killer. Now I just take guarana supplements to get me going.

I learned in abnormal psychology that Ritalin's chemical make-up is identical to cocaine. If adults want to take drugs, that's their call - but I have seriouse concerns with giving it to children. We currently don't know the long term effects of this drug.

Attention deficit disorder is a misleading name - the problem is that the person is paying attention to everything at once and is overwhelmed by stimulus that would normaly be disregarded (e.i, there's a bird at the window - Sarah dropped her pencil - some one is walking down the hall) The theory is that Ritalin can re-rout signals in the brain that would otherwise be ignored since so much focus is being given to other movements and sounds. Giving the person the ability to concentrate.

I'm not completely threadjacking here. You should know what you put into your body, and in this case you don't. Because the medical community doesn't even fully understand how or why Ritalin is effective in treating ADD. It is essentially cocaine. Coke PG-13, but still coke.

^^^ Thanks, TM. I did that. Once upon a time I felt I could say anything about myself on SW but I have since learned to be a little more reserved.

I've used it before and not on prescription and I don't recommend doing so.

You're right that it's great for cleaning the house, but... you're at work when you use it to hustle. If your hustle went down when you don't use it, that's a sign of potential dependency, both income-wise and psychologically.

Get a prescription if you want to use it regularly so that you can be in contact w/ a doctor. Don't borrow some and use the amount of $ you make while on it as a benchmark to how to do sober.

There's a couple good threads about it in BB I believe.

Would it be deemed ok if someone came here saying they used coke or X to help their hustle? I hope not. No character judgment here from me just hopefully some perspective.

If they were recommending it, I would have a problem with that. If they were looking for help, I would hope SW would be supportive.

I've kicked my Ritalin and Caffeine habits. It required some adjusting but it feels good to be able to work and write essays for school, ect. without substances.

No longer need the help but thanks!

I take Adderall for the same reason. It makes me calm and quiet and focused. I have seen people who don't have ADHD take it and they get sooo wired, like they're on coke or something.

ETA: it is prescribed to me.
