Default hair is greasy all of a sudden-help me hair gurus

Alright, so I'll give a little background on my hair. I've always had dry scalp, so I've been using head and shoulders for shampoo and tresemme for conditioner for awhile. I wash my hair every day-if I go longer than that, it gets greasy.
Well, lately, my hair has been greasy even with washing it once a day. I switched shampoo and conditioner, to the nuetrogena t/sal shampoor and herbal essences conditioner. It has not helped!
Why is my hair doing this and how can I make it stop?

I know one thing that will help, but you might not want to do it, and it takes a few weeks to see a difference.

Wash your hair less often. Really. Your scalp produces oils in response to having the oils stripped away by shampooing. The less often you wash your hair, the less your oil/sebum glands go into production mode to replaces the lost oils.

But it takes a little while for your head to adjust to the less-often washing. Try cutting down to washing every other day (use dry shampoo or wear a cute hat if you really think it looks noticeably greasy.)

My guess is that your scalp is dry because you are washing then because it is dry it will overcompensate for the dryness with oil making your hair oily too.

I've used t-gel shampoo and it worked well. You could always try a different brand. Psst Selsun blue is great for treating eczema in the shower. That brand works great too for scalp.

I use oscar blandi dry shampoo. It smells like jasmine. They also have it at Sephora. Also if using a powder a little goes a long way.

I've only ever found it IRL at one salon...nowadays I just order it online. Bumble & bumble makes a good one.

^^^ it is good, but I found something that I like better and it's A LOT less... Samy Dry Spray Shampoo at Ulta. It's just a cheapie, drug store line but it works really well and blends in with all haircolors. Best $6 I've ever spent! I even recommend it to my clients!

Just FYI for all the dandruff shampoo users out there who color thier hair, PureOlogy came out with an anti dandruff shampoo and conditioner... It smells AMAZING and it doesn't fade color.

When your scalp is dry it produces to much sebum. This is what I use on/recommend to all my client's with this issue. I suggest the entire line including the treatment.

This is not however, recommended for those who color their hair as it will fade color.

I'm no guru, but I have greasy hair. Everyone in my family does. So if I wash my hair in the morning, it will start to get slick around the roots by evening. We're a bunch of greaseballs, yuck.

Since I'm blonde, I put babypowder on top of my head and pat it around to absorb the excess oils. It really works! I don't know how it would look for darker hair though. Too much and I get the Marie Antoinette look.

Yup... it's kind of a light floral-y scent. It's not overpowering and it fades pretty quickly, but it difinately takes care of the day old hair smell...

I use baking soda on my roots. I usually wash my hair (mid-back) 1 or 2 times per week. Also, using a boar bristle brush will also help pull your hair's natural oils from your scalp down to the rest of your hair.

You can also buy Psss!, it's a dry shampoo spray. It's unscented and only costs $7. I buy it at CVS or Walgreens.

hmm, I might try that. Sounds like it would help with dried-out ends.

I try not to wash my hair more than twice a week, b/c when I wash it, I also blow dry and flat iron, plus my hair is highlighted. So I try to minimize dryness and damage by only fussing with it twice a week.

    I do that!

I only wash once weekly, but then again I know people that only wash once monthly, and they have the BEST hair EVAR! Long, perfect "Pantene" hair butt length.

Believe it or not, my hair is less oily since I started doing this, in conjunction with weekly coconut oil treatments. Even the super bleached pink parts of my hair are soft and healthy now.

I have this problem. Its like build up from all the silicon and shit they put in shampoo. I use Paul Mitchell clarifying shampoo when it happens and it takes care of the problem for a couple weeks. You cant use it if your hair is colored though.

I found Psssst! At CVS to freshen my scalp because I straightened my hair and didn't want to wash it and spend another 45 minutes straightening it. I asked an employee who's been very helpful to me in the past and she recommended baby powder instead, because the aerosol has some alcohol in it, which might cause my hair to kink back up a little bit.

I did try the baby powder and it did work, and my hair is a very dark brown. I just made sure to use only a little bit and brushed my hair well afterward. I now want to try baking soda and a boar bristle brush. Is baking soda better than baby powder? Or is it just a personal preference?

I'm also looking at the Oscar Blandi dry shampoo.. and it's gotten some rave reviews on Amazon. I just may have to order some!!!!
