Vaca is Spanish for 'cow' and you guys are surprised it has them?!

I liked it... and I hate towns. But I was there like 3 whole hours.

    ^^ I didnt know that!

On tv right now all the UC Med Centers in California are on strike. UCDavis is striking because they make 25% less than other nurses in the local area. Food for thought.

It was easy for me. I would just ask upfront before I saw the apartment whether or not they allowed cats and if there was a deposit. There are lots of apartment communities to chose from and smaller apartment complexes as well. Requires a bit of searching but not hard.

ok, here is what's important to me:

I need a school nearby, a community college with a nursing program.

I need a hospital nearby to work in, or a long term care facility. Hospitals pay better, and if I'm near a nursing school, I'll also be near a hospital ( for clinicals) but I'm sure finding a job won't be too difficult.

I need to be near somewhere to walk my dog. a park, a dog park, a trail..anything open and safe for him to play at.

I want to ideally live in a town that is outside a big city, but not in the city. Like, I can drive 30 minutes and be in the city...and in the town, I can walk or drive 5 minutes to get to the grocery store. I dont want to be in BFE, but I also dont want to be in the middle of a huge city.

a strip club nearby where I can potentially work at occasionally if I choose.

The most important things are a place for my dog, the school and the place to work.

My friend said he can live in Sacramento, Davis, Vacaville or surrounding areas. He is the GM for some Mc Donalds around that area..but he hates his job ( can't stand dealing with the idiots that come ith working at Mc Donalds) so he is looking for a different job in restraunt management. So nearby some restraunts for him to work at is his requirment...and he is easy going on everything else.

oh, I would absolutly love to live nearby some water. I really miss water.

How far is it from Reno? Are the clubs ther ebetter to work at? I would be dancing like you..just a few weekends to suppliment income, not a full time job.

thanks very much AL and TM. when I come, we will have to hang out.

LOL...I thought about this thread when I was driving home from Idaho yesterday. Audrey-I waved to you as I drove through Roseville!!

Anywho--PB, my vote is for Davis. Not too far from Sac, nice college town. Also not too far from SF, where you also may find a club to work at if you like.

Reno is about 3-4 hours away depending on traffic and such. I had a little car at the time too.

When I lived in Sac I lived all over. I left in 2004. I visited last year. My fave place I liked was Antelope area exiting Elkhorn. Roseville is also nice and very developed by now. In Antelope there was American River college nearby. If you drive through Citrus Heights you'll be able to get to some clubs. Took me 30min by streets only to get to work. Near Roseville is Sierra College.

If you want to live near water you can live in Folsom or Granite Bay. GB is expensive though because the area is very nice. Or you could live downtown and there is a river nearby.

I would say that Roseville is more family oriented meaning parks nearby. Also, there are many places to work in Sac. Hospitals and old people homes everywhere.

My vote is to move into my spare room. Kidding! But Roseville or Rocklin.

Sierra has a great nursing program and its 5 minutes away. It has the best nursing program out of all the local JCs. Kaiser and Sutter are hospitals 5 minutes away.

Folsom lake is 10 minutes away. Reno under 2 hours, San Fran under 2 hours. Grocery stores, malls, small bars, everything you would ever need 2-5 minutes away.

The "city", downtown - 30 minutes away.

There are parks everywhere, they're building another acquatic center right next to me. We have a beautiful green community center, library and acquatics center with a museum teaching children about being green and about how this place is green. Awesome.

I love where I live. Its close to everything but not in the middle of everything. No traffic! I can get anywhere I need to be within a few minutes. People walk a lot, bike lanes in all the roads... its really nice. Everything is new. My community is less than 5 years old. This entire part of Roseville is less than 10 years old.

This thread makes me miss back home something fierce.

I do need to add you should expect to work 2 jobs at least to live luxe in NorCal- the great beauty and fun of the area costs a bit to enjoy. The auto insurance rates and rents are high too. You can make it, but expect to spend more for things.

^^ No shit. My particular area isn't cheap BUT Rocklin which is 5 minutes away is a bit older and a college area so the prices aren't too bad. But thats compared to here. Compared to say, the midwest its super expensive. Average here 2 bdrm = $800-1000/mo

Southern Oregon. The Rogue valley Manor. plus Southern Oregon university, and the hippy college town of ashland. Wine, music festivals, and loads of outdoor stuff. Yekhefah can back me up. There is only one strip club (last I checked)

Medford has all of the chain resturaunts and shopping to sustain you. The climate is better and cheaper housing is found in all the surrounding communities.
