Default getting strong for the pole

i've never cared much about pole, but i think it's finally time to learn at least a couple tricks, just for something to do up there.

    but i'm weak, so weak.

i figure pullups and hanging leg raises are what i need to work to, but i'm not even close. i've just started exercising again after months away from it.

where should i start? how long do you think it'll take?

Honestly the pole itself is the best way to get to your goal. Start slow and work both sides. Try and do a few more each day and in no time you'll be swinging and spinning like a mad woman

If youhave your own pole or know someone who will let you use theirs maybe consider contacting Alena for online lessons and or check out her fablous website www. polejunkies.com

i say just hop on the pole too. you'll work the right muscles that way. as long as you don't push yourself too hard and end up pulling something right off the bat... stretch first, obviously, and don't be too... abrupt?

Everytime I work, I force myself to climb the pole every set. If you can't do it, have someone teach you how and just climb up as far as you can. Doing pull up and push ups never really helped me with pole work.

and when you do climb the pole.... try to use your arms as much as possible without relying on your feet. and don't cheat by wearing boots or shoes with clear plastic on the top- if you wear those and climb the pole it's soooooooo easy, you pretty much just stick to it.

I say do some push-ups... But, practicing the tricks are what will really target the exact muscles you'll need/ want to use.

jump up, grab the pole and tuck your feet up. then hold yourself in that position for as long as you can.

this is what helped me build the arm strength for the pole.

the thing is, i refuse to practice till the club is closed, and then i don't have much time because of course they want us out. i'm not willing to actually do tricks in front of customers till i have them down.

we've got spinning poles, too, which makes it kinda hard to hold on.

i guess i'll just have to face it and hang around after close. i'm gonna hurt sooooo bad!!!

    thanks

what moves do you guys think are the easiest for someone weak like me to start with? i really want to get a couple basics down so i can do them during my sets.

I would go with some two handed spins such as the fairy and foward falling spin ( as seen here ) and a sunwheel aka ankle swing ( as seen here )

Try assisted pull up and bar dips.

Well... I gotta say the one work out that REALLY improved my pole-work was Fabric/Tissue Aerial stuff. If you are lucky enough to have an aerial studio in your area I highly recommend you take a few of their classes. The pole will be a piece of cake, easy peasy, child's play in retrospect.

Get a home pole. You can always sell it if you don't want it anymore.
