Default Tattoo removal--who has had it done?

I have a tat on the back of my neck that I really hate. Luckily, I don't have to look at it ever, but I know its there and I don't like people to see it. I was thinking about getting it removed, but I don't know how much that sort of thing costs. Plus I know you have to have several sessions to completely get it erased.

Has anyone here had it done? If so, what kind of tat was it and how many sessions did it take? When it was done, what did the skin look like? Was it completely clear or did it have remainders of the tattoo?

I'm simultaneously looking up info on the interweb as I'm posting this, but I wanted to get some firsthand reports on it if possible. Thanks in advance!!

Wow, Andy, I have a tattoo of my exes name (no flaming, I know I was dumb when I was young lol)on the back of my neck too and I REALLY want to get it removed but I think I'm going to settle on covering up. I went with a friend and it was AWFUl *shudders*....she was in agonizing pain even with valium and demoral and when the sessions were done, if you knew what the tattoo was you could still see it, just really faint, if you know what I mean. I'm convering mine and waiting for technology to improve.

i am currently doing tatgone ink treatments. cheaper than laser, takes a little longer, hurts a lot less.

the problem is finding an artist who is experienced in it. there are only about 5 in texas, thank god one is in my town!

My bf had a tat removal session (they do them here free in the city) and he said literally he wanted to die. He said he could hear some hard ass latin king gang member screaming in agony down the hall. He said it's basically like getting burned with a blow torch. Not fun.

He didn't even do more than one session ..and it was just to fade a tat that he had so he could get a cover up.

After it blistered and bubbled...he poked it with a needle to drain it :vomit: It was fucking gross.

I know he didn't take anything for it during the session, and since it was free I doubt that they provided any relief.

This is coming from a dude who's body is 90% covered with work. He said it was fucking awful

Ugh, this sounds like a nightmare. I don't think I hate the tattoo enough to go through all of that. *shudders*

yeah, I hate my tattoo and customers are always like, "why don't you just get it removed?"

"Just." I'd rather have an ugly tattoo than have it burned off. I could just cover it up, but it's not like I'd rather have anything else. I just am not a tattoo person and I didn't really think it through when i was 18.

So, it stays. I like to think of it as a representation of a time when I thought I knew everything, but knew nothing!

I'm in the process of getting mine removed. I have an inch in diameter black tattoo on my stomach below my belly button. I loathe it.

I had two sessions done using a Q-switch laser and I had a shot of lidocaine to numb it. I felt nothing...until the lido wore off!

It bled, scabbed and even bruised for two weeks. I could not work in that condition. I became concerned of scarring (this was always a concern) but I was coming to a point where there was no turning back so either leave it or keep suffering and maybe face scarring.

I did more research and found a new type of laser and provider that works totally different. I've had three more sessions with incredible results. I have to wait longer between treatments because it actually lightens up the longer I wait.

It never breaks the skin and I never have bled, scabbed or bruised and I can go back to work the next day. It is still painful and I only use numbing cream instead of the lido shot but bearable.

I'm probably half-way to complete removal. I HATE MY TAT so much but I would hate to have a scar more, so I'm confident I'm doing the right thing.

I get my bikini hair lasered at a place they do tattoo lasering too. Once I hear a girl screaming in the next room and the nurse told me she was having a tattoo lasered. She honestly sounded like she was being torchered, the nurse said sometimes people pass out from the pain.

I had no numbing creme and my tatoo removal did not hurt.

It kind of felt like little shocks of cigarette burns and you can kind of smell the cooking of skin but it wasn't bad. I kind of hear that i have a high pain tolerance, so maybe that is the case.

The lady was blowing cold air on it the entire time she was working, so maybe that helped with the pain?

Andygirl, on a positive note, tats on the neck are easier to remove and respond to less treatments because of the closeness to your lymph nodes. Your lymph nodes are the center of your immune system and the laser is causing injury, so the easier it gets there, the better.

This will usually knock off at least one to two sessions compared to a tattoo anywhere else.

I havent got any first hand knowledge of it. But there was an episode on Dr 90210where a girl got laser tattoo removal. She didnt look to be in much pain as she was talking during the procedure but perhaps afterwards she was.

I don't know anyone nor have I had it done but here's a thread about your topic. All I know is that its more painful than the tat itself.

It's not really the kind of tat that can be covered with something else. That would just make it bigger and more of a problem. It's not hideous or anything, just not something I particularly love. I can definitely live with it.

I witnessed someone get it done! Friend of my ex's was coming to Maryland to have lasered, so I drove him down there from NJ. (And on the way back he suggested I move to NM, and I was like aiight, that's how it happened folks, lol)

Getting them off his hands and arm. He sat in a stool thing, while the doctor stood above him w/lots of equipment. It looked like "lashing", you know, if u were to lash someone with a whip, but it was whips and lashes from a laser. Zaps, lazer whips. You could tell it hurt him a great deal, and he told me that yea it was def worse than getting tattooed. There was intensive aftercare required, to prevent infection. Like creams and gauze.

    This part's important:

This fool wanted to neglect it completely except for a little gauze. (He's actually really bipolar and it's sad when he gets manic for months) So 2 days later, we were on the road to New Mexico from NJ because I am crazy. But anyway, the important part: It got infected soooooo fuckingggg quickkkk. TERRIBLE blistering and the whole 9. We're packed in the car for days and it's just teeming. So don't underestimate thorough aftercare if you do it!!!!

He was left with the tatoo faded and scars from the infection, so ugly but it could have been prevented! And I can't remember but he was prob supposed to go back, but never did cuz it was in Maryland and he only did it for his grandma, who gave him $5,000. I can't remember how much it cost, but I'll tell you this, out of the $5,000 he: payed for the flight to NJ, got his tattoo lasered, and gave me $1,500 cash to find an apt. with because he believed in "acts of love" and it changed my life forever, the end.

    I've had three removed!!

Let me first say that it was one of the best things I could have done for myself. I am also in the process of having the one on my lower back removed and thinking about the tiny one on my ankle.

I didnt experience any of the nightmare-ish/painful/scary things I've read above.

Does it hurt..not more than the tatttoo. To me (MY EXPERIENCE) it felt like tiny rubber-bands snapping on my skin.

When you blister it means that the laser was configured too high. I DOES scab, and (again to me) felt like an abbrassion or scrape, without the skin missing. sort of tender, if you will.

I'll post photos. Let me go grab them from the other computer.

I just had my first session and yeah it hurt like hell. It does feel like your being burned. However, no scabbing/bruising afterwards. Its my exes name too, and I am so excited for it to be gone!!

It's really not that bad. It hurts like a hot rubber band snapping, but if you go to an experienced dermatologist and the injections beforehand to get numbed out, it's fine. Don't let everyone scare you.

The Q switched ruby laser WILL NOT burn you or scar unless you pick at it.

^^^ What would you say hurts more - getting the ink done, or having it removed?
