One of my cats is snoring.

    In the next room.

She's snored for years now... she is considered somewhat overweight by vets in general. She's very active, and when they used to be indoor/outdoor, she was even more active and still didn't get thin.

I *REALLY* don't want to get yet another vet lecture on how I should feed her less and exercise her more. She eats the same amount of food as the other two and runs around with them, jumps up on the bed, climbs the cat floor-to-ceiling pole, happily chases a laser pointer spot, and loves to stalk strings.

    Should I be concerned?

My dog used to snore all the time and he was very lean - in perfect condition I was told by vets. So it's not necessarily from the weight. My vet told me some pets just do snore. But if u have been told your cat is overweight maybe it does need to go on a diet coz it's bad for their health, shortens their life expectancy etc.

The problem is putting just one out of three on the diet. The supposedly overweight one is close to the really tiny and skinny one (8.2 pounds at last check.) Those two are both about 8 years old now.... and the third cat is a couple of years younger than them.

It would probably take nothing short of locking them in separate rooms for feedings.... and even that would probably not be so effective.

I just don't want to have to put all three on a diet, since the other two seem to be just fine.

    ^^
I had to separate my two dogs when they ate coz the younger dog would steal the older dogs food hehe.

Maybe there is a medical reason for the cat being overweight?

Possible. I've always considered her more muscle than fat though. She can push her way out of my fiance's arms.. and he's a pretty strong mechanic.

She is a bit flabby over the muscle. Got her as a kitten with her little girlfriend. I wish I'd taken more, but have one photo of her as a kitten. It's so odd to think.. that's Heidi!? lol

Has she gained more weight and then started snoring? If so that's really bad.

And yeah all fat things are strong! How else are they going to haul all that extra weight around?

You should be able to easily feel (but not see!) their ribs.

I have two that are littermates. He was getting super chumpy. I started feeding him less but what really worked was moving house!! It has a big staircase, my room is at the bottom and the kitchen is at the top. Doing 'stairmasters' all day really paid off! (My ass doesn't look too bad either)

But you know what? He's so much happier. He wasn't as agile as her because of his extra weight and she would get into all kinds of 'cool places' that he couldn't and he would sit at the bottom and cry... But all that is starting to change.

Regardless of what you might think, the evidence speaks for itself. If the others are a normal weight she's not getting enough exercise! My fatty boy likes pingpong balls, rolled up bits of foil, golf balls, xmas decorations ect. They help a bit. He'll race around with them for a bit, take a breather and then get back into it. But it's nothing like the results running up and down those stairs has had!!

Btw - cats were NEVER meant to carry weight so they don't handle stripping it off very well. You need to go slowly or they get sick.

Yeah, I'd say if the snoring is a result of weight gain then you have a problem on your hands. But if she snored before I wouldn't be too concerned.
Did you have her thyroid tested? That could be the problem. It's rare for cats to have under active thyroid...usually they are hyperthyroid..but it DOES happen. So if it hasn't been checked then I'd look into it.
Also why is feeding in seperate rooms a problem? I know it's a hassle, but if your cat had a food allergy or was diabetic and needed special food to live wouldn't you do that for her. Well, this really is no different. Excessive weight in cats is just as bad for them as any other disease, not only that but it leads to things like diabetes.

I think she sounds healthy and fine. I wouldn't worry about the snoring, some cats (like some people) just snore. Buddy snores like a train every day... snores, wheezes, and farts in his sleep all the time. We call him a One-Cat Musical Revue!

All my cats snore. I think they do it on purpose. Kinda like the sitting on your book thing... they gotta snore right when you fall asleep.

That's what I do for my fat cat and it works fairly well, actually.

2 out of my three cats snore.
Leon snores as loud as a person.
You can hear him from the other room, over the TV.

I think if she's always snored it shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Yah, she's been snoring for years now. We probably didn't notice for a long time because it is normally a very quiet snore. Sometimes it's louder than others lately. She hasn't changed weight.
