That is really REALLY cool
Cool video, but I'm a strange person.
What goes most through my mind is that it is amazing that in such a short period of time on a Historical scale, that suddenly we are able to hop on commercial planes and use other vehicles to travel almost anywhere in the world in comfort. That we have computers, the internet, ultra-cheap equipment any of us can afford to make videos, that YouTube exists making it possible to share videos world-wide near instantly. There are so many ways that our world has changed because of human ingenuity resulting in these modern wonders.
And while it's cool for me to see the little kids dancing... I don't forget that his video is a very selective view of reality... he wouldn't have had to look far for people who are crying, suffering, starving. I think human ingenuity could help those people too, if we wanted too.

The world is way too full of people crying, starving or suffering.
For once in life it is nice to see people being happy. If only for a moment.
Happiness is so rare.

What did it cost to put this video together? I am pretty confident it wasn't chump change. The money could have been better spent.
FBR
Once again I have embraced my addiction and have put off the moral dilemma to another day.

Yeah money always could be spent better in many things, just ask Paris Hilton when she buys herself a thousand dollar dress while kids starve. Also When campaign money is being raised and spent when you have people like this in the streets of PR...
There are a lot if if's and so ons but not much we can do., just try to enjoy the little simple joys given from time to time.

Am I the only person who thinks people should have a choice what they spend their money on? Whether it be strippers or travelling or helping the poor - it's nobody's business if the money was 'better spent elsewhere'. You're on a stripper site!! I'm sure in somone's opinion your money could've been spent better elsewhere too... but it's none of our business how you spend your money.

I'm guessing the point to the "money better spent" comment is in reference to the fact that this "earth-shaking project" was funded by something other than Matt's pocketbook...If this was funded by some government grant than I can certainly understand FBR's sentiment. Why don't we ask some of the ball players and rappers actually from PR who drip themselves in tacky "bling" while their OWN countries children starve why they don't help...I'm not a fan of Paris Hilton but I do find it odd that all the worlds problems get blamed on a select few.
I think the heart of FBR's comment (and I may be putting words into his mouth) is this:
This video helped us feel better.
But in reality does little to actually help those who are suffering.
Thus it was for our benefit, which is fine, but what if... a part of us asks, what if we could get past our feelings and actually do something to help? Hmmm...

My earlier comments where based on the sentiment that while Matt gets the credit for making people feel good, it is actually so many tens of thousands of humans before him that have toiled long hours and worked hard that are responsible for actually providing some relief creating the inventions that have changed our world. Matt and his video are recipients as well, but my real thanks goes out to those who had the drive and passion to come up with the inventions that have made our life style (and his video) possible.

Your guilt for not helping is your own. Who knows what he did before and after these dances? He was in each location roughly a week and the dance probably cost him only an hour in each place.
Saying you feel you should 'actually help' means you're projecting your feelings because you don't actually help. Why not use your feelings constructively and donate to one of the many charities in the world so you can feel less guilty about feeling happy watching people dance?

I picked Paris as an example, I could of said anyone who we "believe" is filled with money and we "see" purchasing items that the average person will never even be able to get close with a ten foot pole. We are always analyzing how people, who we don't even know and are not with every freaking day spend each dime in their pockets.
And Lysondra is absolutely correct. Oh and about your little reference to the rappers from PR...
Kind hearted DADDY YANKEE is helping soon-to-be-released prisoners in his native Puerto Rico by teaching them vital skills to adjust to life out of jail. The reggaeton superstar has launched his own charity - the Warrior Heart Foundation (Fundación Corazón Guerrero) - to help troubled youths and is delighted he can make a difference. He says, "We're helping the youths that nobody wants to help, and now we're working with the prisons in Puerto Rico and the youths who are getting out soon. "We're going to enter them into the program, teach them about computers and give them the tenacity so that they're more prepared to face the society on their own, you understand? "So they don't return to the things that they were doing before they got out, here we're giving them an opportunity to be able to defend themselves against society."

He also is part of many other charities and is a human rights activist.
Don Omar gave all the money from his wedding gifts, instead of getting gifts for himself and his bride to local charities in PR.
There is much more stuff that many of the rappers have done to give back to the mother land and like I told my own child when we were in one of the many lights of Ponce...
E: "mommy is that man poor too?"
me: "yes honey"
E: "well you have to help him too"
me: "honey mommy has given all her money away in this drive, I have no more money to give right now, maybe tomorrow we can help him ok"
E: "ok"
You give what you can when you have it, stop the judging from the car behind thinking "damn look driving a nice car and can't even give to the homeless"
Wait, I never said I had guilt.
Perhaps my comments triggered some in you? If they did it could be that they even should, I don't know, you'll have to figure that out for yourself, but I never said I was feeling guilty.
But I'm also not very moved by messages designed to make us feel good from our armchairs while not really doing anything constructive. But like I said I am strange. I'm also not moved by Disney films anymore.
Like I said, I am thankful, just not particularly to Matt. I'm thankful to those who have made tremendous contributions to humanity in tangible forms. Even a simple contribution like one that increases food production, vaccinates against a disease, something to decrease pain or itching, an invention that helps reduce unwanted pregnancies, these are the things that make tangible benefits.
As an aside, what does amaze me though is how flippant and dismissive people in wealthy nations are about all that they have. It's funny how they will minimize their dependence on the "things" they have, but if push comes to shove will barely give up any of it. Yet if you subtracted out all of those things from their lives, they would be living the very life (the one without modern things) that we associate with being poor (and romanticize). While of course the poor want more of those things and find it almost loathsome how un-thankful we are.
No, I don't feel guilty. I feel thankful, just not to Matt.
p.s. don't get me completely wrong. Art and entertainment are wonderful human inventions, and Matt's entertainment was enjoyable, just while I enjoy them, entertainers often get a lot of credit because they are visible. There are others though who I am more thankful towards because their inventiveness, even if they aren't recognized for it, have made tremendous tangible positive impact.
