    Default The "N" word

With footage apparently coming out of Jesse Jackson using the "n" word(the derogatory term for black people if you didnt catch that ...I wont write it),there are debates brewing YET again about use of the word and when and if it is ever appropriate.

I dont feel comfortable using it,but it doesnt offend me when black people use it. I dont particularly like the ghetto "what up my N-----" type of speech, but the word itself used in that context BY a black person doesnt bother me.

I am not offended by the fact that it seems to be ok for black people to use it,but not white people. I compare it to it being ok to me to affectionately call a girlfriend a bitch or whore joking with each other...but if a guy calls me that,I am pissed. Totally different connotations.

This was the argument on the View(which for the record I dont watch...it was on Perez)

    http://perezhilton.com/2008-07-17-it-got-heated

Discuss...and PLEASE..I know this is a sensitive topic for many, but lets keep it civil shall we.

Honestly I think white people sound ridiculous when they say it. But I think the word itself is silly anyways, so even when black people say it, I laugh because I find it comical.

Maybe I'm just weird like that.

I've heard it in the slang context tons of times as nearly everyone I work with is black AND I've heard it a lot in the hateful sense, as said by white people I know who are extremely racist.

I personally do not like the word and I personally rarely ever use it, however, we live in a country with freedom of speech, which I highly value. And so i really don't care who uses it and in what context. There is nothing that I feel is off-limits for people to talk about or say.

I will say I really really dislike Jesse Jackass, and all I will say about him personally is that he is a despicable human being, he is EXTREMELY racist, a complete bigot as well as a hypocrite and I truly feel that he sets the African-American people back like 25 years.

I will def watch the video when I get back home but for now I will just tell you my view on the word

I think black people turned a negative hurtful thing into a positive

The word was originally spelled and pronounced nigger <<< notice the er

The way black people say it to eachother they took the er off and turned it into an a so they say "whats up my nigga" as in to claim the person as a friend

I use the word Nigga and I use the word nigger

If someone is cool or wants to say whats up I have no problem and will use the nigga

but when a fellow african american is in public acting a damn fool over something dumb I will say their acting like a nigger

since the word nigger really means ignorant

There is a saying " I love my Niggas but I hate niggers"

I don't think it should be used by white people under any circumstances That happened a cpl nights ago in the club

some girls were having a conversation about another girls boyfriend and asked what she should do some white girl comes out of no where and says "leave that nigger" Then she was asked by a black girl "wtf did u just say?"
she tried to say sorry over and over and say she only said nigga but that didnt make it acceptable and things happened

So in my opinion The word is fine as long as its used within the black community with the a at the end or if they want to use it w the er as an insult whatever

but when others and not just white people use it its always taken to another level and becomes a bad thing

I think people have to make choices for themselves a white person is going to choose wether they want to say it or not.
Fuck it! Its a free country! Its up to the black person that hears it to decide if its worth killing him and going to jail over a word that they use themselves

    thats my opinion

"Nigga" is just "Nigger" mispronounced, black people mispronounce everything, but they are not two separate words. "Nigger" and "Nigga" having different meanings is bullshit. For example, "police" and "PO-lease", still means the "run". The ideal that black people took some negative and made it positive is ridiculous, the black american community has never successfully done anything positive.

Whoa, I'm not even black but I know black americans have done plenty of positive things. Are you differentiating the black community from the individual black american? Because even in that case your statement is way off base.

Its a negative word. I never use it but were I ever to find myself in a fight with a black person, I'd be tempted to use it specifically to be hurtful. I will say that black folks using the word look really stupid when they use such a word and do nothing to improve their lot in society by doing so. All they do is perpetuate the negative stereotype by using it.

Jesse Jackson really is Jesse Jackass. He profits from the business of race and takes himself way too seriously. At least Al Sharpton is amusing some of the time.

I don't want to take this thread off-track, however, thing about it, outside of all the protesting black americans have done over the years, what can you truly say they have ever accomplished ... and before you answer with "The Civil Rights Movements" and "Dr. King", etc., what would there accomplishments be without the overwhelming assistance from sympathetic white people.

The only reason that word continues (Nigger and any derivation of) is because black americans are just some low expectation having people. I understand that the effects of slavery and other injustices still have an effect on blacks in america today, however, blacks have just turned this into excuses for being lazy.

I agree about the connotations thing. A word has only as much power as we lend it.

OK, don't get me wrong, I've seen more than my share of the excuse-making laziness you're talking about, but I still think you have it wrong. You're generalizing.

Percy Julian - black chemist who was one of the few African American to be accepted to a mostly white college, and one of the first to get his doctorate in Chemistry. He worked hard and became successful, had 130 chem patents, moved to a white neighborhood where he, his family and his house were attacked. Repeatedly.

I have a black manager at my company who has mentored me, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for....he played baseball for Purdue University while working his was through college. He's raised his family very well, and is THE most positive and influential person I work with.

I could go on and on, but I guess that's not the point of this thread. I just wanted to respond to what you had to say.

    (Sorry for threadjacking CK.)

This is the reason people like Bill Cosby and his lot are pissed with black people because they have worked so hard to have the current generation of black people embrace these negative values. Go and read Dr. Cosby's book "Come on People", he tells it like its, especially about that Nigger and Nigga word

Not true even a little bit. But instead of arguing and furthering this...I'll ask ONCE AGAIN to please stop this hateful ignorant racist speech. This is the third time now and I expect you to respect that. If you cant...I will ask a mod to intervene with points or whatever they deem justifiable.

ct striptease should be banned from this post. looks like there won't be any cooperation from her. however, my views on nigga? i honestly don't care on a personal level-hell on any level for that matter. some people may take it as an insult. being called ugly is also an insult but no one gets riled up when they're being called ugly. we, black people, take offense by that word, and as long as we keep acting a damn fool about it everytime someone says it then people will keep saying it in an insulting manner. if you're gonna use it in a casual manner then i say hey, why not let everybody say it in a casual manner? we can't continue to live by these double standards and expect change to happen

You guys, everyone's entitled to an opinion, just b/c you don't agree with it or are offended by it or whatever, doesn't mean that it needs to turn into drama, or a closed thread, etc. Making comments about playing in traffic or whatever are precisely the reactions that make it spiral out of control. There are more constructive ways to handle a disagreement.

Again, I do not wish to go off topic, however, I said black americans as a whole, not individual black accomplishments. The point I'm trying to make is the ideal that black people, as whole, got together and decided that the word "nigga" is going to mean something positive. The ideal is ridiculous, as if "black unity" is even possible. Think about organizations as beautiful and positive as SNCC, Black Panthers, Nation of Islam, the all self destructed after a few years. Black people go around saying that "we took something ugly and made it beautiful" is just bullshit, the truth is that, after years of being beaten and down trodden, black people just accepted that we're niggers and that's it! The real crime is that black people have been giving the opportunity to advance, but instead have decided that it is easier and more beneficial to continue being niggers.

Yeah, lets have a discussion about the "N" word but not have input from the smartest black person on stripperweb.

Hello Kitty, you make good points. You have been doing that alot lately . As far as my feelings on the "N" word...it is an adjective used to describe an attitude, not a color. The idea that a person or group of people "own" a word is ridiculous, the idea that using a word gives someone the "justification" to commit assault or murder is even more assinine. If your life is so pathetic that you have nothing to lose or nothing better to do than worry about a silly fricken word than maybe you should be focusing on other more important things.
