Thumbs down omg my hands are so dry.

I have applied hand lotion numerous times and my hands just suck it up. The skin on my palms is peeling and every time I take a hot shower the skin looks bubbly and feels tight and sore. Why are my hands so dry and how can I fix them!? They look gross.

Do you have hard water? I do, and it dries my skin out like crazy.

I used Neutrogena's lotion and its amazing.

I LOVED bath and body works Gel Glove. In the winter my hands get so dry they start to bleed. With the gel gloves they are soooo smooth and stay that way. I don't HAVE to apply lotion during the day, but I do. Also, they have reg. gloves and an overnight hand lotion that's really good too.

Also, you can use them over and over. So there's the inital price, but it pans out in the end.

There is a product used for dairy cows called "Bag Balm"
it is a timeless method for softening hands and feet, its very intensive
and works great. Slather on a generous portion and cotton gloves on top
before you go to bed (this works great with feet too).
It comes in a green tin and I think Walmart carries it.

A lot of commercial lotions on the market can irritate your skin in this state.

You might also want to think about possible causes for the dryness that you could eliminate. I have the weird bubbly thing on my finger tips and I think its from the bleach water for the pole. I guess there's not much we can do about that though

I second the Bag Balm. I've used it, and I've known some bartenders whose hands are really messed up from dipping glasses in the sanitizer all the time, and it works for them. It sounds gross but you put it in a rubber glove, put your hands in and let the gloves sit on for like 30 min or so.
I need some right now cause my hands are pretty bad too, my cuticles are all peeling and fucked up and I pick at them till they bleed (ewwww!) Hard water and doing dishes by hand all the time.....

Cherrybomb, if they are really try try the cotton gloves or cotton socks on your feet over night with a generous coat of Bag Balm under. It works GREAT. Your hands and feet will be super soft in the morning.

If it's on your palms, and not on the backs of your hands, and lotion isn't helping, you may have a fungal infection similar to athlete's foot. This can strike on hands as well. Try an anti-fungal cream!

That's true too. My dad has it really bad to where his palms crack, and his heels and the bottom of his feet.
I would make sure you don't have a fungal.

Eep, I hope it's not fungal because I've also been having a problem where the palms of my hands have been kind of green after work. I was baffled but I just accounted it to the bleach water for the pole because they ONLY turned green after work. I don't know now though.

But I will definitely give Bag Balm and that Burt's Bees hand salve a try.

Oh! Doesn't brass jewelry turn your fingers green? Maybe the green is from the pole? Weird.

i'm a licensed cosmetologist during the day and we learn about skin as part of the schooling.

you should always exfoliate before applying lotion. removing the dead cells makes a huge difference in how the lotion's absorbed. trader joes has some great scrubs w/oil in them. use these, then apply lotion for daytime or before bed at night, a body butter (they have some great ones at body shop).

moisturize internally as well, that makes a huge difference (even moreso than the outside care). take some omega oil pills, coconut oil (i do both) or flaxseeds or a couple tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil per day. yes, it's yucky alone, close nose, big swallow and it's over.

also drink lots of water and reducing your consumption of caffeinated beverages, colas, coffee and tea helps a lot.

i live in vegas and it's dryer than hell out here--year around.

I love shea butter. That stuff is freaking awesome. It works wayyyy better than any store bought moisturizer I've tried and it's cheaper too! I got a huge tub of hand made shea butter from my local flea market for 5 bucks.

I've used the Zim's crack cream and the Ultimate Care by Gold bond. Those are the only 2 lotions I've used that don't leave my hands burning like crazy after putting them on when they are dry and cracked. I'm a full time dog groomer and after grooming 7 dogs a day minimum my hands would be so bad no matter what time of year it was.

Stop using soap. All soap. And body wash unless you know it doesn't contain soap.

    http://www.aveeno.com/productDetail.do?prodid=3623
And I think baby washes are soap free

Soap is bad. For moisturizers I like scent free stuff. I loves me Aveeno. I love, even more, Eucerin.
