Default How do You Feel About Contests?

I wanted to post my feelings about competitions in hopes of getting information on where to compete provided its all fair. However, there's more to it than that due to the problem that will never go away.

Have you ever participated in a dance contest or pole competion? If so, was it run fairly or was it rigged? Was the contest designed to award the winners who came in second or third or was it an all or nothing gig?

I was forced to do a dance contest at a club in portland. The girls told me that the same 5-6 girls always win (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place).. There was a cash prize I believe. They said that the same girl ALWAYS wins, with variations on 2nd and third place. I could have sworn that my applause was second loudest, definitely at least third loudest, yet the house girls that had been there for longer than me got 2nd and third. Sucked. Even the customers said I should have placed. The girl who got first even started standing up before her name was called, like she knew she got it already.

I've done two amateur nights. I never go into these things expecting anything but a few dollars in stage tips and a fun time. I always assume they're rigged, either by management or by which girl brings in the most friends to cheer for her.

First one was at my first club ever...I was switching from bartending to dancing and decided to make my debut by doing amateur night. It was a rush! And apparently we made club history...they really couldn't decide who had gotten more applause...so they did the noise-o-meter thing again, and still thought the applause was pretty much even, so...four way tie! We each got $125.

The second one was was kind of weird because all the girls went onstage in street clothes: jeans, t-shirts, regular shoes, etc. That's the norm there for amateur night and guys eat it up. Who knew? Not me. I was the only one in actual stripperwear. The winner was this impossibly tiny girl that looked about 15. The club was packed though, and I got knocked out after the first round, but still made $100 in stage tips.

I'm doing another one next Thursday. Like I said I never expect to win anything, but it's fun and a good way to check out a new club.

When i was a customer( at my first club ever) they made up a contest and rigged it so i would win (found out later), but i would have won anyways . They were hoping it would make me wanna dance there as they had been begging me for like 6 months that my husband and I had been customers. It worked. Oh and i won a pitcher of beer and a baby tee-lol.

Some are rigged some arent some SEEM rigged, but I have been backstage assisting in contests several times and watched a fair outcome, and have watched shysters NOT want someone who was miles ahead in points get 'disqualified;' for some bogus rule too. Club owners not liking a girl although she was a clear winner and give the title to their local favorite who in another club or city would have placed say 5th or so but home club advantage does sway judging.
You take your chances kiss all the appropriate ass available and hope for the best and DO your best. It can really help your earning potential (especially if you feature) to have titles under your belt.

I won an amateur contest once and I usually win wrestling matches but I've lost a couple wet t-shirt contests and I hate losing.

I never participated, but I've been around for some funny (I thought they were funny) ones. At my very first club, I bartended during an 'Itty Bitty Titty' contest, where the winner got a free boob job. I didn't see how it turned out, but I was informed the girl who placed first gave sexual favors for it. One of my favorite clubs had amature nights and some fat girl contest. I forgot what it was called, Big Mama or something stupid like that.. but it was POPULAR. Girls who were there told me they've never seen the house so packed. I never worked any of those nights, though.

I ran for Miss Nude Oregon this year. I thought the competition was fun to do, but the results were pretty ridiculous. The managers fuck buddy got 3rd when she was 4 hours late to the contest and missed one of the main events. The girl who won was butt ugly. I had a lot of people tell me I should have placed. It was obviously rigged, and they are even honest about the fact that only a girl from the Dolphin (the club that its held at) will win, as the title is copyrighted by the owner of the Dolphin clubs. So, I think they should change it to Miss Nude Dolphin. I quit working there after the contest because I had been annoyed by the club for a few months beforehand and figured it would be a good time to go.

Its too bad these things are usually rigged. I would have a lot of fun doing a fair contest, but favoritism makes me so angry I don't know if I'll ever do one again.

^^ It's the clubs themselves that rig things, definitely, though the one-off performances are the fairest -- Burlesque Entertainer of the Year was won fairly by a girl who didn't work at that club. Though that might have something to do with why they didn't have it this year! A good friend of mine won the Dantes 'Fire Performer of the Year' title back in May... and she's been doing Sinferno for less than a year, but her act was really innovative (she did fire stripping, except she put on more and more clothes!).

Stevie you're definitely talented, so you might want to look beyond the 'institutions' of contests (i.e. the titles that are bought by certain clubs for their own marketing) and check out some of the one-offs, they seem like they are better in terms of a good competition & fair play. Don't know if there are any this summer left, I'd check Exotic?

I havent seen anything interesting come up. I was waiting for them to do the Top Entertainer contest at the Viewpoint, but it looks like that one died. Athena won that one and she didnt work there, so I would have tried that one because it looked fair.

For the most part they are rigged. At least the regular weekly or monthly kind anyway. They can still be a decent way to get exposure for future sales though.

The ones I've seen have mostly been scams. Years ago I did a contest, and though I got the most applause, I came in third. The two who got first and second were extremely ugly and obese. I later found out they were related to the manager. Never went back there. Another contest I came in second, but the first place winner was better and deserved to win (I believe she's a feature now).

I was asked to "judge" one years ago for a manager I knew. He basically told I needed to pick this one contestant (who was his girlfriend).

I've done it twice. First time I was a real amateur, made it to second round but not to final three. Most other girls were also amateurs and nothing seemed shady.
Second time I'd danced for awhile, and it seems like most of the other contestants had as well. I placed third in that, and the girls that got second and first seemed to get it honestly.
I went with a friend one time to an amateur night she did regularly before starting as a stripper. She usually did well. This time, though, she brought another friend along who decided to go up as well and this girl's thong was NOT okay. I am talking lips hanging out in a topless bar. Well, go figure, she won--my friend was so pissed that she cried.

No, but I've observed a few, and had friends/co-workers compete.
If so, was it run fairly or was it rigged?
By and far, most all of them have been rigged. Obviously rigged---like the winner is the owner's girlfriend/FB and isn't very talented.
Was the contest designed to award the winners who came in second or third or was it an all or nothing gig?
Most of them I've seen have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. I've seen amateur nights with only 1 winner though, so it varies.

I've never seen an outright rigged contest, but I do think the winner is always whoever has the most friends in the audience - regardless of wether they're the most talented or not. So I see it as kinda pointless!

I used to like them. But then I got older or maybe danced a good amount of time and realized that this is a job - not a lifestyle. I'm no longer willing to put the time and effort into competitons that could have been spent hustling and making money.

Yeah, I had at least the second biggest group of people cheering for me and I did not even place and they said it was based on audience response. Bleh.

I'll do an amateur contest if I think I might possibly want to work at the club that's having it. Most of the time the contest can be your audition too, and it's a good way to check out the club first. Otherwise I think contests are a waste of time.

Wanted to mention too that even if some sad sack chick wins and you put on a great performance - your peers will know, the club will know and most importantly the patrons will too. Sometimes you can use the contest to expose your talents regardless of the outcome. When you feature that is. The agents come and watch and scout features to either sway over to their agency or boost her price if she is already on their roster. They know what will sell in the feature clubs, and if that fat ugly owner of the clubs girlfriend wins? So what... she wont get gigs, cuz the agents know talent when they see it. Same with other club owners coming to watch a contest (the larger ones that is...) they then request a certain performer they were impressed with at the contest. Regardless of the win.

If we are only talking about small contests, tee shirt stuff and the like and they are held at the club every month or whatever ya - then I see alot of the above noted comments in this thread apply.

YUP! Agreed. Based on audience applause is total Bull. Not that some contests aren't, but why should that be the only deciding factor!???????

I'm begining to feel that a list of the contests that aren't rigged should be posted. I've heard that the Deja Vu pole competitions are also rigged. Sadly enough, even Pole-a-Palooza selects a winner based on cheers from the audience.

Does it? Then all you have to do is bring a bus load of your freinds along. Hardly fair.

It really depends on what you are planning to compete in!

I did a few amateur contest which were always judged by applause. I admit that the second one that I won, I cheated. I was still in high school and I told everybody that day at school that I was gonna do it so they ALL showed up and I won! LOL

If you are planning to do pole competitions it will depend on which one. I did several Deja Vu ones and honestly the only one I KNEW was rigged was a local one that I did which I got 2nd but went to nationals anyway because the girl didn't want pictures taken of her. I know they guarenteed her to win in order to get her to compete! ODDLY I went on to win the national! All the other Deja Vu ones seemed fair. I didn't win all of them, so I can say that honestly. I was pleased to get 2nd and 3rd to what I thought were better performances. There are so many pole competitions popping up all over so I couldn't help you out there. Even though they may seem on the up and up, you never know.

I do know that many of the feature contests are rigged. In fact, it is hard pressed to find one that isn't these days. I have been attending many of them lately and I am in shock of how obvious it is!

You will need to be more specific in your request for knowledge. Ask about a particular contest that you are thinking about attending and someone who has been there will reply.

I have 26 titles from contests over the years and I will be honest, a couple were just given to me for attending! BUT, most I worked hard for and won deservingly. I am a girl that has entered MANY and won a few.
