Default Needy Cat Always In My Face!!

He's driving me bonkers!! Both of my cats do, but one is way worse than the other. He's just so...needy!! When he sleeps in bed with us, he always has to be RIGHT next to my face. If I turn over, he'll get up and move to wherever I'm facing. He jumps up on the bed and climbs right up on me and starts "playing the piano" befor getting comfortable and breathing right on me. Shutting him out of the bedroom is not an option, as our bedroom is like a loft and we have no door. Our other cat has similar habits, but luckily he gets an attitude and leaves the bed if we move around too much. They're both really good cats, very loving and sooooo affectionate, but sometimes, I just want them out of my face. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I'd love to help but my cat says I can't and is sitting on my hands.

Have you ever tried just pushing the cat off the bed gently everytime. This might take a long time. But repetition is probably going to be key.
Why is locking them out at night a problem? Does he cry so loudly you can't sleep.
Does he have a little kitty area to sleep in. A bed, or tower. You might want to give him something to go to that's more appeasing. When my cat did this I put up a little window table. During the day she'd sit there and stare stare stare at all that was going on. A night she'd jump up on me..push her down. Repeat A LOT of times (the first time) and eventually she went to her little window area. I had to do it a lot, and for about 2-3 weeks straight (I can't remember). Cat's aren't as easily trained as dogs (not that they're any less smart) because they WANT what THEY want..NOW! They're just stubborn and TOTALLY believe you are there to care for them and appease them.
    Good luck!

no idea. i have a cat who's exactly the same. she has to be like thisclosetome all the time, and she often meows non-stop. she's always done it.

i have tried gently putting her down every time
    i have tried ignoring her
i have tried spraying her with water

nothing works. even if i do those things for WEEKS she never "learns".

*sigh* it is what it is.

We have a very vocal once who does this, too. Mostly to MrsC, though. He has this obsession with her hair (which is almost waist length) and builds a nest in it at night to sleep in. He follows us around the house meowing. I tend to think it's endearing, but some days I do wish he'd go away and shut up for a little while. Old man cat slept with us every night, but wasn't annoying about it.

Wow, I also have a cat that does this. Maybe it's like Hitchhiker's Guide, except instead of dolphins, it's the cats?!

I had a cat who acted like this. She bit my nose and chin and tried to nurse while I was sleeping, put her paws on our faces, and generally just needed to be nose to nose with me or my boyfriend. I hated it but I learned to live with it for the 13 years I had the cat. Then the cat passed away and now I miss it very much.

I guess there is little you can do if you can't keep them out at night except what got2havespunk suggested, gently pushing him down and saying "No." in a stern voice everytime he bothers you. Also, I don't know if this will work...how about a few cat treats at the foot of the bed every night? It seems like it's worth a shot.

My cat is the same way. He sleeps on the bed with me everynight and likes to be right next to me. I've come to enjoy it because he is almost like a dog in the way that he is always happy to see me when I come home.

I can't really think what might work. It is really hard to break this habbit after letting them sleep on the bed for so long.

Do something to annoy him back. Try to smother him with kisses on his face, give him a big encompassing hug, pick him up, or rub his belly. (Well, those are things that annoy MY cat )

If all else fails, hiss at him. He should get the message, but don't do it too often.

I only hiss at my cat when she's about to do something extremely bad like spray or run out of the house.

    Worth a shot, good luck!
