Thumbs down Stretch before your sets, girls!

Last night I went to flip myself upside down and felt and heard my rib "crack". It hurts to breathe, hurts to do ANYTHING (I haven't even showered or change my clothes since). I honestly thought my rib might've cracked and when I went to the hospital they thought maybe that was it and I had x rays.

It was a simple trick that I do almost every stage set, and now I'm in so much pain. X rays showed nothing was broken, so it's likely "just" a pulled muscle. Something like this happened before and it took three weeks to recover. Another possibility is torn cartilage, which could take up to 12 weeks to heal. It hurt so bad that I was crying after my last set (which I didn't do any tricks for, just laying on the rack hurt), and went home early.

I should've known better, it was my second day back after three weeks off, and now I can't work for AT LEAST another week, and that's if I'm really lucky. Please please be careful!

Sorry if this was a little incoherent, I'm doped up on vicodin, which isn't killing the pain

I know what that feels like! I just did something similar (I believe it came from a pole invert). My chiropractor had to "pop" my rib back into place. After a few days of ice packs & anti-inflammatory meds it feels much better.

Now I'm EVEN MORE religious about stretching. And I'm going to start getting a weekly massage.

i'm so sorry to hear about your pain. i strained my ribcage a couple of months ago from bronchitis and it took me two months to recover. get lots of rest and try to refrain from moving. i know it can be difficult to just hangout at home, but if you go back to work too early it can cause even more damage. i learned that the hard way. best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I did that once..separated my ribs while I was hanging by my ankles upside down. OOOOWWWWW.The crap thing is that this was years ago and it still flares up from time to time if I turn wrong or something.

I did something similar, also during an invert, while I was still very new and had to strain to do it. I didn't go to the doctor, but it was just a torn oblique. Same symptoms, hurt to breathe, almost cried. I was able to resume pole tricks after about a week, even though it was still sore.

Yes, I've learned the hard way too. It's so routine for me to do the simplest of tricks, but my body obviously thinks different. I'm tired of working with an injury. Stretching is essential, sometimes I even work it in my routine.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I tore cartilage last winter (not dancing-related), and OMG - I know your pain. Vicodin (at least 10-15mg at a time) did help, but it also helps to take a muscle relaxer as well. I was hurtin' for at least 4 weeks. After that point, it eased up. Here's to you feeling better in hopefully 4 or 5 weeks....not 12!Take it easy girl!

I messed up my hip somehow a few weeks back from doing an invert. It was the one where you climb up, cross your legs and hang that way, and I must have gone down to quick, and pop goes the hip. Ended up more or less gimping off stage, and couldnt do shit for a while. Just started doing them again now. Seriously crap though. Feel better and rest up tho!

OUCH. I did this when I was first learning to flip upside down- and I had a cough at the same time. Fun. I hope you feel better soon, sweetie. Be careful. And enjoy the Vicodin.
