this one?
Who was she?
Vesna Vulovic was a stewardess back in the '70s working on a Serbian airline.
How She Stared Down Death:
Except for surviving countless ass gropings during her time as a stewardess there was really nothing special about this lady. Oh yeah, except for the fact that she fell 33,000 fucking feet and lived to tell the tale.
On January 26, 1972 our gal was working an extra shift due to a clerical error. She took the shift anyway to earn a little extra scratch, probably to supplement her bear-wrestling hobby or something. Anyway, some terrorists decided to blow up her plane and succeeded in doing so at the worst possible time, when the plane was really high up in the air.
Or the mining one?

Wait or the little girl one?
I think the falling from the airplane is pretty hardcore. I've seen a few of these stories on T.V. so they don't seem as sensational now.
whoa, some of that was crazy!

Who wrote this? A 14 year old boy?
Dude cut off his arm with a multi-use tool. Had to cut the tendons with pliers. Now that takes balls.
is any of that stuff true or just satire on urban legends?
^^^The one that cut off his own arm with a dull knife is true for sure. Now he writes books and speaks for non-profit organizations.
I would not have played dead by a bear. I would have run or looked for other alternatives.

cracked pretty much only posts verifiably true stories. which is what makes their 'cheated death' or 'badassery in the name of science' or 'cool inventions that actually exist' even more awesome, because they aren't spouting urban legends.
they even have an article 'urban legends that are actually true', heh!
My favorite is the Green Beret, Vietnam POW. De Oppresso Liber!
(From the linked article: )
The time took its toll on Jim though and it looked like Death would win this one. Another prisoner who saw Jim reported that he thought the enemy had placed a corpse in the cell next door. However, Death forgot the fact the Jim was a Green Beret and he held on until he was finally released in 1973. He weighed 90 pounds.
Re- the bear mauling- I am not making this up.....My friend owns a tavern in Northern Montana. One night she had a group of customers with one grouchy jerk. The group apologized for Jerk's behavior- according to her, they told her he had BEEN MAULED BY A GRIZZLY BEAR but escaped. He had bandaged arms and gouges on his face. She got over being offended by the Jerk, seeing as he had a legit reason to be grumpy.

nuts. absolutely fucking crazy. guy cutting off his own arm is just, wow!
Love it!
