Default Is Flax Seed Oil supposed to be Bitter?

I just bought a brand new bottle that was refridgerated at the health food market. The expiration date is not until late 2009.
It has a bitter taste, is this normal?
I have not taken this stuff in years so I don't quite remember.
I thought it would be bland tasting.
    Thankyou for your help...

I think so. I usually add mine to oatmeal, so I don't really taste it. But it smells bitter.

    I found this on omeganutrition.com:

Fresh oils should not be bitter to the taste. The polyunsaturated fats in Flax Seed Oil tend to oxidize more rapidly than monounsaturated and saturated fats, which can result in a slightly bitter taste. We process our oils at low temperatures to preserve the freshness of these oils and maintain the natural antioxidant Vitamins A and E found within the seeds. To ensure that you are purchasing the freshest oil possible, look for the pressing date on Flax Seed Oil bottles and the best before date, also make sure when purchasing from the health food store that the oil is always stored in a cooler.

Also, make sure you are putting it in the fridge. I know someone who didn't and it was RANK. Mine was usually slightly bitter, but I put it in protein shakes, so I didn't notice much.
    I'm not who I say I am.

Is there a reason you prefer the oil as opposed to actual flax seed meal? I've never tried the oil but I use flax seed meal for baking fairly often.

Hmm I dunno I just picked up the oil because it was on sale
and I thought it would be easy to take a spoonful a day.
Do you think I should return this since its bitter tasting?
Perhaps they left it out somewhere and it went back I dunno

I would love to try some baked goods with the flax seeds!
what kinda stuff do you bake?

There are a couple flax recipes on this site:

However if you do a web search for flax recipes you will find a bunch. I like to make flax seed pancakes topped with fresh fruit...yum yum.
