    Default Dessert Recipes

I'm entering a contest, and while I can bake really really well, everyone has tasted my recipes (pumpkin-cheesecake bread and smores brownies), I need something new for the contest and its was such short notice (1 week) that I don't have time to make something up.

We're allowed to follow recipes of other people, so any of you have a crowd-pleasing favorite that you'd share?

I promise whoever gives me the recipe will recieve a couple of batches baked by me as a special thank you

Does it have to be something specific? Cookies, Bread, Cake? I have a few family recipes, but I don't know exactly what you're looking for.

It is being judged by a bunch of people wirking in Finance in NY, but it just has to be a dessert. Cookies are probably out. A cake would be fun, so I could practice some decorating techniques

My mom has a killer Red Velvet Cake and frosting Recipe. I'm not sure how many designs you could pump out on that baby. Also she has some other good desserts. Some aren't baked though :/

This is the cake. It's fucking amazing. Don't change anything about it. It's not meant to taste super sugary. It's a mild chocolate/cinnamon mix, and it's delightful. Use the frosting recommended. Most people that don't like it changed the recipe, or used the wrong size pan.

Guranteed to make strong men weak...and don't change the recipe, use the type of rum recommended, and definitely use cake flour. Be very careful making the glaze. It can boil over in a heartbeat, and man, it's like effin' liquid napalm.

    Rum Cake

    Basic Cake Mix
    2 cups cake flour

    1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

    4 teaspoons baking powder

    1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter, cut into bits

    3 tablespoons vegetable oil
    For the Cake
    1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

1 (3 1/2 ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
    1/2 cup milk

    4 eggs

1/2 cup whaler vanille rum (Hawaiian-style rum)

    1/2 cup vegetable oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Rum soaking Glaze
1/2 cup butter (do not substitute)

    1/4 cup water

    1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup whaler vanille rum (Hawaiian-style rum)

1.Basic Cake Mix: In a large mixing bowl, combine basic cake mix ingredients.
2.On low speed combine ingredients until the mix is the consistency of fine gravel, and all particles are about the same size.
3.This mix may be contained and stored for up to 3 months in the refrigerator.
    4.For the Cake:.
    5.Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
6.Spray a large Bundt pan (12 cup) with nonstick cooking spray.
7.Sprinkle the chopped walnuts on the bottom.
8.Place Basic Cake Mix, pudding mix, milk, eggs, rum, oil, and vanilla extract in a large bowl and combine on medium speed with electric mixer for 2 to 3 minutes, scrape down the bowl halfway through.
    9.Batter should be very smooth.
    10.Pour into Bundt pan.
11.Bake for about 55 minutes- until fully golden and tester comes out clean and cake springs back.
12.Remove from oven and place on a cooling rack while making the soaking glaze.
    13.Rum Soaking Glaze:.
14.Combine butter, water and sugar in a small saucepan.
15.Bring to a boil carefully as mixture boils over very easily.
16.Reduce to a simmer and cook until sugar is dissolved and syrup is well combined and a little thicker.
17.Remove from the heat and add the rum, mix to combine.
18.While cake is still cooling, pour some of the hot syrup on top of the cake, allowing it time to soak in (this may take a few minutes as there will be a lot of syrup) continue to add syrup until all of the syrup is added.
19.Allow cake to cool completerly in pan before turning out onto serving platter.
20.This cake is delicate, so once it is turned out, it can not be moved around easily.
21.Can be eaten when fully cool, but even better the next day!

^ I make rum cake the same way! It is to die for, she isn't kidding! I add a little coconut with the walnuts to give it a tropical flare.

If I can't move it around, that will be a problem. I have to bake it at my house and take it in a cab to Midtown, about 40 blocks away.

Just leave the bundt pan over it until you get there. It transports just fine that way.

The chocolate cake recipe I quoted is easy to transport. You can either frost it in the dish and take it that way, or put in one of those tupperware containers with a lid. The nice thing about it is it doesn't need to look nice. In fact, the frosting is chunky so it looks a bit messy anyways.
I wouldn't do the red velvet cake recipe I'd give you. It's meant to be a double layer cake. It would ruin to easily I fear. However, if you still want the recipe for home or short travel distances I'd be happy to send your way!
