I heard too much nioxin pumps your hair full of too many vitamins, if you use it on a regular basis, thereby causing the folicles to burst, or something like that. Basically, if you use it too much (like Pantene), the hair breaks easier.

But that's just what I heard...

For itchiness, I used to use T-gel or Teetrea Oil.

Awww I thought that was just pantene & other drug store "strengthening shampoos" well so much for splurging on that! (i am sooo cheap!) I will give t-gel a try. I am literally itching all the time! Also, I started recently breaking out in a rash when I get out of the shower, (it goes away after a little while) I have not changed any products! I am actually itchy all over. I feel so gross scratching all the time, but the scalp is the worst! Thanks for the info. I bet your right about nioxin, i even use the moisturizing kind for medium/thick hair. I have tried olive oil, moisturizing conditioners, now T-gel is getting a try. Thanks for the info!
BTW lol you should see the dirty stares i get from people in my class, when I scratch my head continuously! I swear I am clean!

My husband has an itchy scalp and he swears by Nizoral and/or T-Gel (Neutrogena).

Its sounds like you are getting a allergic reaction..i used to get that after my showers until i switched to body washes for sensitive skin. I also get it from perfume and bounce.

I don't mean to sounds gross..but could it be lice?
They love love love clean hair. And, the hair might be falling out due to all the scratching.
If not, I recommend T-gel as well. It really helps.

I have bad dandruff and I use to use T-Gel/ Coal Tar shampoos. I can tell you that at first they helped, but after a while I was scratching like crazy again. I just started using a shampoo with tea tree oil and OMG it's heaven on my scalp! Give it a try.

If your itching all over maybe you have fleas or something?

I'd stop any shower products you have now and buy dove or some really plain soap and new shampoo conditioner and see how that goes.

I don't see why not. i use the line by Regis Salon, but if it's tea tree oil shampoo, it should do the same thing no matter what brand it is.

Aslo, I use to use Nioxin to strengthen my hair after coloring damaged it. However I was advised to only use it for a short time, or if I used it regularly to only use it a couple times a week because it can be really rough on your hair after a while.

You could have a mild case of aloepecia. You can read up on it here. http://www.himalayahealthcare.com/pr...loss_cream.htm
If so use and anti itch hydrocortisone oil on your scalp and the itching and most of the hair loss should subside. You have to use it 2-3 times a week though. http://www.revolutionhealth.com/arti...ching/sig51354

just for your infomation, covering your hair in tea tree oil and letting it sit about half an hour to an hour preferably under a cap or plastic bag will kill any possible lice you may have as well as any possible fungal infections tea tree is a good topical anti itch treatment also.

    Kinda related -

Is too much biotin bad for your hair too? I've been using a biotin shampoo and lately my scalp has been itchy too!

I have really dry scalp and HEAVY curly thick hair myself...the only thing I can imagine from your post is maybe you used products that dried your scalp our more and thats why you have the itchies?

If I were you, I know this sounds ghetto, but I would STOP washing my hair every day. If your hair is heavy like mine, its very bad for it to be washed every day as it strips all the oils your scalp needs out of it.

Can you leave it unwashed for two or three days and just let the natural oils rebuild on your scalp and see what happens?

I quit using nioxin and I used the t-gel extra strength once, and started using regular cheap shampoo & the itchies are gone!

I've also had a really itchy/oily scalp. I felt I needed to wash my hair twice a day. I've been using Head and Shoulders "Daily" or the "2/1" and now I can go almost two days without feeling gross.

My little ones brought lice home, so in my research online I found that putting tea tree oil in your shampoo could deter them from moving to your head...so I would not get it. But man lice was a bit** to get rid of on their hair!

I am so not looking forward to that my little one starts school in a month. Thanks for the tea tree oil in the shampoo tip to keep the lice at bay haha and off my hay.

I am itchy again, I am sure it's all of the product buildup I get from using so much crap in my hair. Has anyone tried the mixed chicks product line? The before/after pics are awesome, but it would be hard for me to believe that it would hold up when it takes 5 products to make my hair look half-way decent. I heard about the line, when Halle Berry promoted it in a magazine recently.

My bf was using Nioxin for a few months along with a wide variety of anit itch shampoos (alternating) such as tea tree, h&S, pine tar, nizoral etc. He had extremely bad dandruff and itching to the point that he ended up shaving his head. eighteen inches of hair!!!

anyways, as soon as he stopped using the Nioxin, no more itching. When we shaved his head, he had HUGE scabs and GIANT flakes. It was really gross. and his scalp actually smelled really funky. Honestly, I don't think Nioxin works well for everyone. I think also because he had long super thick hair, (except for in the front, ironically) the product was building up and causing itchies. He was ALWAYs itching his head. He looked like a little kid.
