Default Loan denial reason - Whaaaa?

Just got a notice in the mail that the auto loan my bf applied for was denied.
(Long story short: He got preapproved notice, decided to inquire about it, was told that they'd send the check just to call and verify some info, he decided we should wait to buy car and told them nevermind.)

The letter from Capital One says:

The reason(s) for not approving your request are:
Credit bureau information is missing or unavailable - Application

What in the heck does that mean? I've done searches all over the interwebs and Credit Boards and can't find anything like this.

I got that when I applied for a loan. Turned out it was because I had changed my name. My loan app had my new/current name on it, and that's what they were searching for when they did the credit check...but my credit report and all my info was still under my old name. So when they searched under my current name, nothing came up and it looked like I had zero credit history.

I ended up re-applying under my old name, getting approved, and then calling to change my name on the loan.

Might something like this be the case with your BF?

I don't think so. But maybe he left out his middle name or something.
Hmm... I'm going to make him call.

Ok, he's just a dingbat and didn't call them back to say where he wanted to send the check.

Ack. I hate when he makes me worry about this stuff!

    Thanks for your help Sveta!

He canceled the loan process. IMO nothing to worry about.

No problem Glad you got it sorted out. From what they said when I was calling about my loan, it seems like that's the line they give you when ANY sort of information is missing or doesn't match up. Could be name, address, whatever.
