I've always wanted one. They are so cute. How are they as pets? Did you ever socialize them with dogs or other animals?
Thanks in advance.

I've never had one, but I've worked with a lot of them. They're sweet pets, but I can't recommend letting them around other animals - they're skittish.

^^^Aww, that sucks. I have two tiny 4 pound dogs. Are all of them skittish? Do you think that is a trait that can be reversed if you get one as a baby?
I've never really been around one except once at a Petsmart...I just love how adorable and soft they are.

They're not very social, and they get scared easy. I was bit by a baby who was less than 24 hours old, lol. They get used to people after awhile, but a dog would probably try to play and fighten or hurt a chinchilla. They're kinda like hamsters, only bigger and softer.

Don't keep them near rabbits. They are dormant carriers of illnesses that will kill rabbits.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

^^Why can't you get one in Australia?

I love them. They are just so cute and cuddly and I just want to squeeze them.
you could get a ferret instead. they're soft and playful and good with dogs that won't eat them (I think.)
i have 4 at the moment and no...you CANNOT put them around other animals...they are way too skiddish and can get hurt very easily. they have floating ribs which makes it a task to pick them up if they dont want to be. so imagine a dog rough housing with it?!?!
^Oh my goodness! What delicate animals! I thought about getting one (ended up with a ferret instead), but they didn't seem friendly enough for me. They can only bathe in dust (they've got so many hairs per folicule that they'd freeze to death before they could dry off) and they have FLOATING ribs on top of that?!
Also, they're supposed to be really fast. So, if you want to put it away and it doesn't want to be caught...
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
^ lol i have sat on my floor for an hour before trying to catch the female...they are very fast and jump so high...they know how to get away
i just took some pictures of mine so yall could see

the pink house in the pictures is their dust bath....its so cute to watch them take a bath....the roll around like crazy
They remind me of Degus. Which are also really cool animals.
We rescued/fostered one for awhile when I was younger. I wish we would have kept it, but my mom didn't want it. I love them, but would never get one because you can't really cuddle all night with them![]()
I'm not who I say I am.

Omg blondi, they are too freaking cute!
I didn't realize they were such delicate animals. It's sad because I see lots of listings for adoption here in Houston.
They are very delicate for sure. They cannot get above 75F or they can have a heat stroke and die. It makes me so mad to see them or hear about them in homes or pet stores that are not aware of this. Our power has gone out a couple times in the past 2 months because of bad storms and the first thing we think about is where are we gonna take them for the time being if the temp gets too hott in the house.
HOLY EFFING CUTENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want chinchillas so bad! They are so adorable and soft. As soon as I get a decent sized house, I'd thinking of getting some chinchillas, to add to my 3 cats. I'm just not sure I'd make a good chinchilla mom .... I've heard how delicate they are and I'd be so afraid of breaking one. I'm a klutz most times.

I was thinking of getting one because they are very cute and one of the ladies in the pet shop said that they chew on cords and wires alot and that if you pick them up when they don't want to be picked up then they'll pee on you. What she said made me reconsider getting one. I'm not completley sure if it's true though.
