Default Quick! Best Hotel in Vegas?

In your opinion, what is the best resort in Vegas? My guy and I are planning a quick getaway for my 30th and need to pick where to stay...tonight! What hotels would you advise against? We are kind of looking at Mandalay, Tropicana, and the Hard Rock. I thought I'd see if I could get some quick tips here.
We would love something with a great pool (swim-up bar, preferably ), a cool crowd (but not pretentious OR obnoxious).

Great pool? Mandalay bay. Lazy river, i think swim up blackjack tables. Fun place and nice. Hard rock has good pool and good party atmosphere.
Not tropicana. it's old and not very nice.

You're going to have a great time at Mandalay bay. I was just there in April. (:

Good to hear Virgo. I am pretty excited about it. If you have any tips (i.e. inexpensive dining and things that will make it a better experience overall), feel free to post them!

We booked the 750 room/Tower (?). It seemed the way to go.

Inexpensive dining? Eek. Everything at MB is SUPER expensive. I'm talking 6 bucks for a bottle of water expensive. I would advise eating at some of the smaller casinos on the strip, and there's a 7-11 (I think?) within walking distance where you can get bottled water, cigs, snacks and all of those little things you don't want to pay an arm and a leg for. Another good suggestion is if you're gambling-get a players card! I didn't even gamble that much and I got over $100 in food comped to me.

okay that's perfect. We basically want to have a couple of fine dining experiences (mostly dinners) but some not-so-costly stuff too. We will definitely get a players card too, thanks

A guide to everything cheap in Vegas.

Get your players card..and try to sign up for as many players cards as possible. Every casino you go into, sign up. Most places give you a booklet with the new card that contains coupons, free buffets, and even free bets or slot play. Make sure you use your card each time you gamble, so you rack up comps.

Dont bother wasting your money on strip casino's buffets. They are expensive and I never think the food is very good. Save expensive dining for good restaurants.

My favorite hotel is the Orleans. The rooms are very nice, they have a great poker room, good restaurants like TGIFridays, and the room rate is a lot lower than most of the other hotels, especially on weekdays. The strip with all the theme hotels is only six blocks away, and In and Out Burger is only four.

oh yeah, food at Mandalay Bay is so expensive. I remember having breakfast with my boyfriend. Something simple like pancakes and waffles with juice and coffee and it was $40 for the both of us. It was at the cafe at theHotel around Christmas.

But theHotel at MB was gorgeous. I loved our suite. Any food on the strip will be ridiculously expensive. Even a sandwich at Quiznos (at the luxor) was $9.

I personally dig the MGM. It’s modern with a younger vibe and has awesome pools, good shows, tons and tons of food and shopping choices and it’s own nightclub. It is also pretty reasonable price wise as compared to other nicer resorts and has a train stop for easy access to other resorts on the strip. Waiting in cab lines in LV stinks!

I would say by far in my opinion The Hotel at Mandalay bay is the best resort (note, The Hotel is an all suite tower at mandalay, not their normal hotel lol. the name can be confusing)

Mandalay Bay is a fantastic choice!!!

However I usually stay at the MGM because it is a better deal, the strip tram is easier to get too, and I don't spend much time in the hotel room. But MB is a nicer hotel.

Mandalay bay has a tram stop. ( or maybe the excalibur does but they are connected.)

I appreciate the tips everyone. All noted. We are definitely going the player's card route, thanks again PB. I am excited that everyone thinks we made a good choice with the MB, as I read some reviews on Trip Advisor and they weren't so phenomenal.
We called the hotel to make reservations, and picked the 650 square foot suite with the jacuzzi and all that. I told the rep I worked at a travel agency, gave him my IATA card #, and he upgraded us to the 750sq ft one, so that's a plus. I'm thinking it'll be a fun birthday.

MB is awesome. you'll love it. the pool kicks ass. they have som good bars, if you can afford it, go to their spa. It's great. I love MB spa, that used to be my special treat before i got poor.

Oh! go to fourty deuce on sunday night. ( if they still do it) sunday's is silicone sundays. It's stripper appriciation night. the burlesque dancers do their thing ( awesome show!) and then they open the stage (with stripper poles!) for girls to dance on. All the girls are strippers so they tend to get rowdy. It's great fun!

I've stayed at the Hard Rock the last few times and I've always enjoyed it. I'm going to be back in Vegas this December and I'm trying to decide on some place different - besides the HRH I've stayed at the Hilton, the MGM (when the current one first opened), the Palms, Green Valley Ranch, and various non-gaming hotels. I'm thinking about the Bellagio, Venetian, and Mandalay Bay/theHotel.

I'd really like to hear how the rooms are at Mandalay Bay...hope you have a great trip Kaiyla!

They do but it's private tram that connects MB, the Luxor, and the Excalibur.

There is a bigger tram system that goes all the way up and down the strip. No big deal though. Just take the mini tram to the Excalibur, get off, cross the street kitty corner is the MGM. Down near the pool and spa you can hop on the big tram. There are a few other hotels and sights worth seeing if you haven't been to Vegas.

    I can tell you a few things. Red Square is a really nice Russian themed bar, Rum Jungle is a fun dance club, and they have the Kitty Cat Club in the middle of the casino that has a house band (The Girly Gangstars) the name sounds lame, but they're a fun band to see and play some good dance music. The guy that plays drums spins on a stripper pole and is an awesome dancer. It is an older crowd though, just so you know. Wolfgang Puck has a couple of restaurants there and there's another famous chef that has a seafood restaurant (can't remember his name though). Pretty much all of their restaurants are run by famous chefs. The pool can't be missed. That's just of the top of my head-if I think of anything else, I'll pop back in and let you know! (;

MB is a good choice as they recently remodeled and re-did their beach.

The new beach side casino on the 2nd floor sounds like a lot of fun too.

LOL in fact, I'm thinking about going next weekend too.
