Eating raw is just a better way of eating. The nutrients in veggies get all cooked out from the heat. Where is Ms Qwerty? She knows alot about this and I believe she's a raw eater as well.

I ate 100% raw for two weeks, and yes I lost weight, but I did it WAY too fast and detoxed really quickly (even though i was already vegan, eating raw is SO clean, you'll get headaches, feel foggy and have stomach issues while detoxing if you do it too fast, especially if you don't eat the right ratio of fats:carbs:protein). Now, I'm eating about 75% raw, the only thing I eat right now that aren't raw is hemp milk/almond milks (i dont have a good blender so i can't make my own raw nut milk), occasionally I'll have tempeh, and occasionally I'll have chocolate or hummus (hummus is made with roasted chickpeas).

I notice I definitely have a ton more energy- I'm addicted to reading raw food recipes- I like ani phyo's raw vegan cookbook, and goneraw.com has some good recipes too.

I eat mostly strawberries, bananas, blueberries, raw hemp protein power (in smoothies), hemp milk, raw nuts, dates, raisins, coconut, bell peppers, spinach, carrot, radicchio, avocado, etc. For breakfast I have a smoothie, I snack on dried fruit and nuts throughout the day and at work, lunch is usually a big salad, and dinner is another smoothie... i'm trying to lose weight too. Raw desserts are SO good, yesterday I made "brownies" out of raw cacao powder, dates, coconut, agave nectar and cashews- yum.

oh-- and I also really like those raw organic food bars for on the go when I don't have time to be in the kitchen cutting up veggies and making stuff- larabars are raw (but not the best), pranabars are good, but the organic food bars (that's the brand i guess) are the best!

    hey all!
just thought I'd chime in! I was vegan for several years and I'll go raw every once in a while if I run into a good recipe for a meal.
This is my favorite raw cookbook:

    http://www.amazon.com/Raw-Uncook-Boo.../dp/0060392622

If you're ever in Santa Monica, can't tell you enough how awesome Juliano's restaurant is! I spent a chunk of money eating there and it was worth every penny. It was one of the richest gourmet meals I've ever had. Most of the meals are given as recipes in this book, though.

I've always been interested in the raw food diet, it DOES seem like it would be great for your body...

So, my question for you raw foodies out there is, how raw do you have to get before it starts benefiting your health? Can you still eat eggs/meat etc? Some bread offassionaly? Can you have a diet coke or a glass of wine here and there and still get benefits? What about the occassional resturaunt meal?

All the resources I've been finding in regards to eating raw is basically like a total raw diet which wouldn't be realistic for me personally...but would eating say, two raw meals a day, one with cooked stuff, and the occassional naughtiness like diet coke, splenda, crystal lite etc and the occassional glass of wine negate the value of doing so?

(I'm talking about doing this for health reasons not weight loss also)

eh.... I would say that of course eating raw vegetables, fruits and nuts will make your typical standard american diet more healthy,

but... in a way, drinking crystal light, diet coke and things with splenda will add toxins that the raw diet would normally be purging, so it could make you feel really shitty to be ingesting toxins and also eating cleansing foods.

and red wine is good for you! so no problem there.

eh... and eggs/meat/dairy/bread wouldn't really mix well with all raw meals either, it could really screw up your digestive system.

Juliano is Ani Phyo's friend, he's awesome isn't he? I wish there was a raw restaurant where i live!

freshly made carrots beets spinach parsley kale

and no dressing on the salads i get marinated beans salads and through that on top or blackened salamon cranberries currents pears thats what i use as the flavor for the salad but really i would use what you like to eat to top the salad.

you can always use lemon juice or balsamic vinegar for dressing too.

or if you want to get craft you can make a creamy raw dressing out of cashews, basil, lemon and sea salt in the blender.

Back to the boobies thing... hey if loosing weight makes you deflate you can always go shopping for some new ones!

<--- I obviously have a plan for when i'm done breast feeding No deflation for me damn it!

Anyways, it's really cool that you have the strength to go through with a raw food diet. Bravo to anyone who does it!

I try to get as much raw stuff in as i can. Cooked and processed foods aren't even like real food to me anymore, but they hold me over. I don't feel like I've really eaten unless I eat at least a few raw things....

Im possibly alone on this forum and I certainly am not having a go at anyone, but raw for some means not putting chemicals in the body. Btw I breast fed for 2 years and the boobs are fine (IMO the healthier you eat the better theyll be.)

Thanks TM - but I dont know if I have much to add.
Ive always been slightly on the "underweight" side of things regardless of diet so no imput there from me.
It seems to me though that the more raw you eat the more it becomes your preferred choice. From memory I noticed benefits within a couple of weeks, a general feeling of increased wellness and energy.
A diet is still considered raw if its 80% raw - and there are good things to eat cooked like jacket potato & sweet potato, brown rice, beans etc

Everyones allowed to cheat sometimes. I dont know if anyone else has had this experience. For me I found that suddenly I couldnt face eating most meats, fish or dairy anymore, and some other types of food. I never intended to bcome a full vegan but it seems by body doesnt really want to eat animal products. I dont know if this is temporary or not. Only time will tell I suppose.

(I couldnt multi-quote for some reason)

If youre making the effort to be more healthy you probably dont want shit like coke in your system anyway - coke is a really shit thing for anyone to have. Of course though most people have a vice

Does anyone sprout? I want to get into this but I move around so much its probably notpractical.

Oh yes, there are raw food forums on curezone.com - a veggie one:

    and a carnivorous one:

I sprouted nuts and seeds before, back when i had my own house. I got all obsessive with it too, I made a chart with the soaking times for all the nuts and seeds, and would change the water at the right times because I was paranoid about mold/bacteria growing. I definitely noticed a difference eating sprouted vs. just raw... the enzyme inhibitors were off, so I feel like I absorbed the energy a lot more efficiently.

and to answer your question vegas princess-- no I do not think you should eat meat while being raw. That's like doing a line of coke while you're at a yoga retreat. As MsQwerty said, as you start eating more and more raw foods, you won't even want coke, aspartame, meat and cooked foods anymore, they will probably repulse you.

Thanks!! Wow I can't imagine not wanting diet coke! I only let myself have it a couple times a week but I want it. All. The. Time. I would rather have a diet coke than any kind of desert/food/anything imaginable. Lame!

diet coke just seems like liquid acidic chemicals to me. my parents drink it, and i don't see how they do. have you tried flavored mineral water?? It's still got the bubbliness and the flavor, but there's no artificial flavors... aka toxins.

Kiera you typed Venus Goddess not Vegas Princess in your post. Venus probably wouldnt touch coke with a 30ft barge pole (-:

I like the chart idea - what were your favorite sprouts and the quickest to grow? I have a couple of books but they all sound great!

Mum used to do alfafa and water cress but thats as close as Ive come to sprouting my own, lol.

i definitly feel better going your route
i really need to start juicing more.. i just hate cleaning it.. its easy but its not as easy as rinsing a plate...
i did get one of those metal citrus juicers for grapefruit/oranges which is alot easier to clean..but veggie juices though are just so good for you

i keep a pile of juicy fruit and crunchy raw vegetables and when im hungry i go for them... so when i do eat "other food" its just half a sandwich or a salad with "other food" on them..

all the good vitamins for skin and cleansing and keeping your insides healthy are in the raw fruits and veggies
i poo better and feel alot more hydrated

i wonder if the 8 glasses of water thing came about because we dont eat enough raw food.. .. i mean in ancient times do you think people sipped water all day? i dont think they had to if they filled up on fruits and vegetables as a mainstay of their diets

and this i think is better mentally than 100% raw..

its also making me chew my other foods alot better... like they say digestion starts in your mouth and i believe it.. i feel worlds different if i chew each bite.. not to be gross.. but until it is literally liquid in my mouth before swallowing.. does 2 things.. makes me really really taste the food which is kindof sensual and also when i swallow.. that sandwich is not just little chunks in my belly ..but rather a gloop of liquid mixed with all that good saliva enzymes so it breaks down easier...

loads of raw fruits and vegetables every day.. just does so many good things for me

rawfoodtalk.com is also a great forum.

I actually came across this site from another site called femalefirst.co.uk
which had a forum for removing stretch marks and a young lady who was got rid of all her stretch marks said part of her routine was to go 90 % raw food so figured why not check it out.

The forum is great their many women have gotten rid of scars and skin conditions they have had since childhood. So it inspired me.

Today i was looking in the mirror and realized that the loose skin i usually get from loosing weight is actually going away and i think i am seeing and improvement on the stretchmarks as well. Yah i will give up the boobs for these improvements
