Default Working during the day + dancing

Right now, I'm working 25-30 hours a week at a dayjob (hours anywhere from 9am-7:30) There are two shifts, I either work the 9-3pm shift, or the 2-7:30 shift.

The problem with the 9am-3pm shift is that since I get up so early, I'm really tired by the time I get home, so I have no motivation to go to work. The problem with the 2-7:30 shift is that, to get the cheapest house fee, I need to be on the floor by 8. My dayjob is only 15 minutes from the club, but I would like at least a half an hour by myself to chill out and eat some dinner and unwind a bit before getting wound up again.

I work 4 days a week, and I've gotten my boss to switch my hours so I'm working mostly the 2-7:30 shifts. I'm just frazzled because I want to work at the club at least 3 nights a week. He gives me weekends off, Friday, saturday and sunday nights are off, but I can't work three nights a week!!

aghgh I'm having scheduling conflicts. For this week, I'm working saturday night, tuesday night (no work wednesday day), and thurday night (dont have to work til 11, but it will be exhausting when i get there).

how do you balance a dayjob and working at the club???

would u wanna quit the day job and dance full time?

Depending on the job maybe u can spend the last hr of work getting yourself ready on the sly for a nightshift.

I LOVE my dayjob, but it only pays average 200/week. quitting it isn't an option. The only thing I could possibly do to get ready is go to work with my hair extensions already in. It only takes me 5-10 minutes for makeup so it's not really a matter of getting ready (all my clothes and stuff are in my locker at work anyways), it's just a matter of making time in between the two to relax.

Maybe try to ease into the schedule. Try one day of the days you work your day job, and make it a goal of getting to the club that day. Once able to see results, if worth it, etc., will be motivated to do another day. It's about forming a habit, and when you do, things will just fall into place and you'll find your rhythm. Good luck.

If I were you, I'd work the later shift and go to the club right after work. You can take your time once you get there to eat and get ready. I know it doesn't sound good, but once you get used to it, bouncing from one thing to another can really keep you hyped. To make up for your chill time get a latte or something to reward yourself.

I usually work at the club when I'm off at my dayjob... which is usually fridays(I requested to always have that day off) If I decide to work at the club after getting off... I make sure all my stuff is ready to go for the club... and I straighten my hair beforehand too. So when I get off I I just jump into the shower and then go to work at the club. Yes it is very tiring... I wake up early and pretty much work alllllll day only to get up the next day early for work again when I do that but the money motivates me.

perhaps you can ask your manager to take you off the schedule for one of the days out of the week so at least you'll have one weekday available for working at the club.

Oh, dont overwork yourself! It's the worst. I get really depressed and feel like there is nothing about me except waking up to make money.

I work at my theater on Mondays and Wednesdays, 7 hours in the night, and I work at my club on Tuesdays Thursdays Saturdays, 7 hours in the day or night, depending. Thus I work five days a week, which I think is a good balance, and then there is room for covering shifts or trading if I'm in the mood.

I hate it if I'm covering a person's shift or making up a shift, and I work at the theatre in the day, from 11am-6pm, and then I work at the club at night 6:30pm-2am. That's consecutive shifts from different jobs and it always ends up KILLING ME, even if I earn 15 hours' worth of wage+tips. I try to avoid that unless I have no other option.

I wish I could have coffee, but I cut it out of my diet over 6 months ago and don't plan on getting addicted again, it was hard to quit!

My tentative schedule for next week is this:

    Saturday-working at the club only
    Sunday- off
    Monday- 11-5 day job
Tuesday- 2-7:30 day job, 1 hour break, 8:30-2 at the club
    Wednesday- off
Thursday-2-7:30 day job, 1 hour break, 8:30-2 at the club
    Friday- 11-5 day job
Saturday- working at the club only

So that's 5 days working, 3 nights at the club, 4 at the dayjob. The only thing I'm concerned about is working thursday night and then being able to get up in time and feel well enough to work my dayjob. I usually don't get home until 3, and am not ready to sleep until 4 because i have to shower, so that's only 5 hours of sleep..

We'll see... this week will be a test run. I'm nervous about working tonight!! It's my second night back at the club..

You ladies deserve huge respect for pulling off 2 jobs like that. Couldn't imagine going to another job after working all day - especially dancing. Big kudos to you

^after your body gets used to dancing- it won't be so hard. It's totally do-able, I know my body will be fine from working 2 jobs in a row, it's just my mind i'm worried about!

no... I can't have anything with caffeine- i've cut out all caffeine...

I admit I actually tried to have a little caffeine before my first shift back because I wanted to make sure I could go strong all night, and I took an excedrin instead of a tylenol (i had a migraine headache), and was shaking and jittery all night... it didn't help my money because all the custies asked if i was nervous because i was shaking all over the place.

I totally understand you on the caffeine issue -- I get really jittery and a bit high (obviously, my tolerance is really low) when drinking coffee before a shift. How about cutting back on your hours at your regular daytime job?
