I'm thinking of moving there (I'm on the East Coast) and I need any kind of info about the place. What's the best place to live? Living costs? Anything really.
Thanks!

Why out of all places would you choose LA?

Because I have always wanted to live there, since I was a little girl. I have nothing to hold me back, I hate the city I live in, and finally have the opportunity to move. So why not?
ok, go for it.
Have you ever been before?
Which state r u in?

I'm in RI.
I've visited LA about 5 years ago, I was still a teen and I just loved the city. I don't know anyone there and kind of feel lost trying to start off this move. Like, where should I look for apartments? What are the bad areas, etc?
you could try www.roommates.com
it might be helpful as to finding a place.

Thanks!
Expect to be disappointed. There's L.A., and then there's living in L.A. It's probably not what you think it'll be; life in L.A. isn't all palm trees and sunshine. I found it to be a living hell, myself.
Hollywood's not so bad if you have to be in L.A. I liked my neighborhood, touristy though it was. I was an easy walk to the Hollywood Bowl (saw some great concerts there), the Hollywood & Highland complex (where the Oscars are), Grauman's Chinese, the Powerhouse (awesomely ugly and chill old dive bar), etc. They're gentrifying the area right now though so it probably won't be cool and old for much longer.
Yek you took the words right out of my mouth. To the OP: Its best to experience things for yourself....just make sure you have a backup plan. You sound a lot like me 4 years ago, I wanted to live there my whole life but I was sorely disappointed. It made me appreciate where I live SO MUCH. I'd never leave this region again!

SEARCH FUNCTION. CERIOUSLY. there have been soooooooo many threads about living in LA, dancing in LA, surviving in LA, being stuck in traffic in LA, hating LA, moving out of LA, wanting to kill yourself living in LA.... take your pick.
^^^^ dont forget prostitution, extras, cheap asses, gas prices, shitty public transportation, weirdos, and asshole cops.

+100000! Land of fake everything!!! fake attitudes, fake tits, fake people, fake friends, fake careers, fake flora, fake lives... Los Angeles was never supposed to exist in the first place and had to steal water and all sorts of resources to exist. It lives off of the backs of immigrants and people who suffer a huge income disparity so those in Newport Beach can enjoy their McMansions. blech.
If I stay here, I'm going into public interest law. Otherwise, I'm joining the ranks of those who have moved the hell outta dodge as soon as I'm done w/ my bachelors.
I thought you enjoyed the "Meth" tasting coffee out there CC.

Over $1000 a month for a studio (probably with no kitchen; they call those "bachelor apartments" and it's just a room with a bathroom). If you want something in a decent part of Hollywood, you'll have to pay at least $1500 a month, but that very likely won't come with any parking. And FORGET about relying on street parking in L.A. because there's never any. Public transportation sucks too. Everything you've heard about L.A. traffic is true, but you can't really fathom it until you've idled in traffic for an hour and a half to go four miles.

I love L.A.![]()
^^^ You either love it or hate it!
I'm really curious here. Those of you who love L.A. - why?
Nooooo!!! Don't go! You'll have to do extras to make money in the clubs there. Cerously. Almost all the nude clubs are whorehouses with stages. Otherwise you work in a "bikini bar" where there is no contact and consequently no money. I worked nude and often came home with less than $100 and this was about 2 years ago before the big economic crash.
My roommate and I paid $1650 a month (plus utilities) for a tiny two bedroom that was really more like a 1 bedroom in a decent part of West Hollywood (off Sunset between La Brea and Fairfax). We had one parking spot between the two of us and most often at 4am when I was coming home from work, I'd have to park 3 blocks away and deal with tweaker bums fucking behind my garbage cans or tweaker guys following me down the road in their cars. Hollywood is a very dangerous and seedy place. Even the parts that seem nice, which you will probably not be able to afford. There is a very small "middle class" there. There is mostly POOR and RICH. Dancing sucks there, the food kinda sucks unless you like strictly Thai and Mexican.
If that doesn't deter you, I don't know what will. It's not what it seems. FAKE is right. Everything about it is a facade that anyone can see right through if they have a soul with more than the depth of a cat litter box.
TBH SD pwns LA for the most part. The clubs are slightly better here, too

The following is my editorial opinion and, as such, should not be confused with fact or truth...![]()
IMO, Los Angeles can be one of the most uplifting AND depressing places in the world. My affection and sense of wonder stems from nearly 4 decades of roaming this city during various stages of maturity (and immaturity).
I moved here in 1971 when I was 10 (after living in England and Nigeria), and I have a lasting affinity for the streets, beaches and canyons of Los Angeles. On a clear day, I can see the Pacific Ocean, the snow-capped San Bernadino Mountains, the rolling canyons of Santa Monica Mountains, and the towering skyline of Downtown L.A.--all while driving my kids to school.
I'll acknowledge the sleazy, superficial aspects of L.A., just as quickly as I'll claim the beautiful places and genuine people that are also a part of the landscape. It's a quirky town with natives that rarely seem to be on the same page collectively, a place where different people may witness a single event and take away varying impressions of kindness, cruelty, spirituality, or depravity.
Overall, Yek, I guess I love this city because I nearly died here but, somehow, found meaning and purpose. For me, Los Angeles is a city filled with paradoxes and paradigms, where desperation and the best-laid plans carpool with reckless abandon...
