    Default MaxiGlide Hair Straightner...anyone have?

Okay, I just watched this infomercial on tv. It seems too good to be true!! I have thick, coarse, curly boob-length hair and it would be my dream if this product really worked....It's some crazy super intense ceramic / steam straightner...I may just get it because you can try it for 14.95 for free....anybody?

Tons of red flags were raised when I visited the website...

First of all, ceramic does not emit or produce negative ions like thier website claims. It can produce even heat, but that's it- I'm not sure what their "ceramic technology" is... unless there's tourmaline involved, that thing is not emitting any negative ions.

Next there's the whole thing about steam. Bad, bad, bad. Styling with traditional heat tools causes damage to the outer layer of the hair... steam, cooks it from the inside out causing more damage.

Then there's it's size... looks big and clunky. Combine that with filling it with water and you got one heavy flat iron. They claim the handle is ergonomically designed but it's the weight of the tool that causes wrist and shoulder fatigue- but that may not be a concern unless you have really coarse, thick, or extremely curly hair.

Lastly, there's the heat control... I can't find a good pic of it but it doesn't look like it has any precise heat settings, just a numbered heat setting. With an iron that claims to heat up to 428 degrees, you want an accurate heat control especially if you color your hair. Anything above 392 and you're causing faster fading .

Oo thanks Mia. I def. trust your opinion on this. And yeah my wrist getting fatigued is a huge concern because my hair is so long thick and coarse..and curly...ugh. Well, glad I asked before I ordered it I didn't know that steam cooked your hair from the inside out like that! Scary!!

I have the maxiglide, I stopped using it bc its sooo addicting. I used it for 6 months w great sucess but then I helt like my hair started thinning out. Probly bc I was using it every single day.
Yes its kinda heavy but it does work well if used in moderation. It took me from curly to straight in 1 stroke, like the commercial lol

Did it make your hair dry or more brittle? Do you color your hair?

yes I color my hair. I think the pins in the straigtner made my hair thinner. my hair was a little brittle but I loved my straightner. I think the steam was helpful
