    Default Balance billing

I have recieved a final notice on a hospial bill for my son. He had insurance and it stated on their invoice that the hospital is not allowed to balance bill the patient. This is exactly what they are doing.
I have mailed out letters on 2 seperate occasions to the insurance company and to the billing dept trying to balance bill me. I have had no response. I did send them certified mail and kept copies of everything.
I get up in the late afternoon and it is a real hassle to make phone calls to these places while wiping the sleep out of my eyes.
I really don't need them screwing up my credit report by saying I'm not making payments for something I DO NOT OWE.
    Help????

this is a battle that your son's health insurance reps will have to fight with the hospital billing dep't. I have been caught in a similar situation, and it took more than a month for the hospital to finally relent.

In the end, YOU are responsible to the hospital for the payment since they provided YOU the service.

The insurance company is responsible to YOU to pay the hospital for the terms agreed to in the insurance contract.

So really you need to give the hospital the contact name at the insurance company and give the insurance company a little bit of pressure to not fall through the cracks.

Call em up every now and then to see where things stand. The hospital will remember that kind of stuff.

    Yea. It sucks.

I had to have my son call them today to give me permission to talk to them about the bill they are sending me. What a load of horseshit!!! But he's over 18 now and that's the bs law. Someone needs to fix that.
So they said the balance was at 0. I asked them to send me a letter to that effect. So we'll see.

That's the federal HIPAA law, designed to protect personal medical records from prying eyes, in this case your son's records. It's not a stupid law, as it can protect the patient from health discrimination etc. Your adult son needed to get a disclosure form from the hospital, sign it, and turn it in to the hospial medical records department for you to intercede on his behalf.

Next time you will know. It's better to inquire before blowing one's stack.

Hospitals are big businesses and they often make mistakes in billing. Always lookoever everything, including what they directly bill to your insurance, to prevent mistakes and even fraud.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

My dentist tried to do this. I get billing statements from my dental insurance company and on them it states that they are not allowed to charge me more than $xxx per their contract. It was an $800 difference.

I just sent that over to the dentist and it was fixed but I can see it being more difficult with a hospital since theyre so large. Im still paying off my ER and other bills from last November Note to self: ALWAYS have insurance, you just never know when you'll need it!
