Never, but hey at least he's a real dr. instead of the many who act like they are. Are you going to see the guy from last night, or find someone else? Now, I'm curious about this..

I've never been to a chiropractor, I didn't realize they could do so much for you!

I'd go to the doc just to rule out anything bad. Swollen nodes are often a symptom of a larger illness. I was shocked to read how many girls on here have chronically swollen nodes. I've always been told that isn't normal.

I'd love for BoxingDoc to weigh in on this topic. I'm really curious as to whether swollen nodes are something to be concerned about or not.

And here's my story of a lymph node gone wild...... I was getting ready to have a laparoscopy because of my endometriosis and a few weeks before it I felt this weird lump in my upper inner right thigh. The doctor gave me antibiotics, I took the whole course, but the lump just kept getting bigger. By the time I went in for surgery it had swollen to the size of a large egg. My friend saw it and started crying because she was convinced I was dying, lol.

I had the lymph node removed during surgery and was left with a three inch scar on my inner thigh. And here's TMI, after I had it removed the space where it had been kept filling with fluid. I had to have it drained every few days for two weeks. It was fucking nasty! But all's well that ends well and the pathology on the node came back fine. They determined that my node swelled up because of an infected ingrown hair on my ANKLE a month or so prior. Basically, it was cat scratch fever. But talk about an ordeal......and now I have an ugly scar that I have to cover with a garter.

    That's a wild tale..........

A lot of my health-related research has claimed that people with immune system issues are more likely to develop cancer (or, "cancer loves a weak immune system.") Hence my health nuttiness.

I would also love it if boxingdoc weighed in on this thread....

We get them once a month. Swollen lymph nodes are NOT always signifiers of other more serious health issues. If you have swollen nodes, it's time to check your diet. Allergies, stress, and diet all contribute to swollen nodes.

Lymphatic massage/drainage is good for cancer patients who have swelling after they have had lymph nodes removes, especially breast cancer patients. People also like to get it after having plastic surgery because it reduces swelling. Swollen lymph nodes eh not so much.

I asked my biology teacher about this today. She pretty much confirmed what I thought, that swollen nodes are not necessarily an indication of something serious, but they could be. She also said that lymphatic massage is a real thing (hey, I didn't know, lol) and that you always want to massage them in a downward motion. She was a nurse for many years prior to teaching so I trust what she says.

If you have swollen nodes on the right side of your body, it is indicative of an overtaxed liver. Do a liver cleanse with the LM and it will help that.

I have info on how to do the massage...let me dig it out.

I've had one... did nothing for me health-wise. I think he was just giving you a line. "I'm a gyno and I must inspect you." *wiggles eyebrows*

Sorry I'm a bit late to the game. Lymph nodes are part of your body's immune system and can swell from any number of reasons. You could stub your toe and a week later, notice a swollen node in your groin as part of your body's response to the trauma. They swell with infection as well. If the area is hot, swollen, tender and has red streaks, it is lymphangitis, a bacterial infection of the lymphatic system in that area and requires antibiotics. A complete blood count (cbc) and basic bloodwork with liver function tests can help diagnose possible lymphoma. You would have other symptoms other than a swollen node if this was the case. Needle biopsy can be done as well if the node stays persistently swollen.

As for lymphatic massage, I've only heard of it in cases where lymph nodes have been surgically removed. In that case, for example in breast cancer, lymph nodes are frequently removed from the armpit area to biopsy for signs of spread of the cancer. This can result in massive lymphedema or fluid building up in the affected arm. Lymphatic massage is used in these cases to help the body reabsorb the built up fluid.

In otherwise healthy individuals with all nodes intact, I believe that lymphatic massage falls into the realm of alternative health care.

In my opinion, if you are otherwise healthy, it's probably not going to hurt you, may feel good, but likely has no other benefit.

The lymph nodes in my neck are always swollen. But then again I have constant throat/chest infections (off work tonight cos I can't speak again).
I had one lymphatic massage but I felt really ill after it and was back to being swolen very quickly.
It can't hurt to try it though.
p.s Is it the lymph nodes in your neck that swell up when you have the mumps? They never fully went back to normalafter I had it a few years ago.

Mumps cause your parotid glands to swell up. They are salivary glands, not lymph nodes.

It would be nice if a lymphatic massage lead to an orgasm. I get the LM once in a while and don't really like the feeling, even though I feel much better the day after.

The poster that mentioned liver cleanse is bang on... In fact, I'd consider a general entire system cleanse like the one that the isagenix diet provides.
Oh Canada, we stand on cars and freeze...
