Default technically not a newbie...but I feel like one!

Between moving across the country and taking a month off...damn I feel like a newbie all over again! Actually worse, because when i really was new I had it easy. I was already bartending at one of the top clubs in my city and was friendly with most of the girls and staff...so it was all familiar and all I had to do was tell the GM I wanted to dance.

To compound my newness now, I'll be without a pole onstage for the first time ever. eeeek! Add that to not knowing anyone, not being at all familiar with any of the clubs and really not knowing this city's "vibe" so to speak...yeah, I'm one scared little newb!

Also add to that I'm about 20 lbs heavier than I'd like to be. Where I came from it wasn't a problem, I worked at one of the main clubs and there were a lot of girls bigger than me. But here I suspect I'll be one of the biggest ones, and that's going to be humiliating. I can just picture all the other girls in the contest being tiny little cute blond Barbies, and my massive pale awkward dancing-to-Rammstein ass sticking out like a sore thumb. Shiiiiiit.

Oh and I get to run around the city looking for cheap costumey bits and pieces tomorrow, as apparently there are themes for this contest. Wish me luck finding and throwing together something cute (and not getting lost in strange new territory!) This could possibly be fun, actually.

Oh well, maybe I'll have a shot at winning something on amateur night--since guys seem to really like actual amateurs, and without a pole I really will look like I have no clue what I'm doing! Because I don't!

(And I got totally spoiled musically at my old club...I highly doubt I'll find a DJ out here that will play me crazy rave-y hardstyle or let me bring in Russian techno. Pity.)

This is all very humbling. I'm new and starting out all over again...I need a pep talk.

After you find yourself a sexy little outfit and dance in front of your mirror for a few minutes you'll get more into the mindset!

Since it's themed- maybe there's corny music that will work with whatevertype of outfit you buy... Like Will smith's wild wild west if you find cowgirl looking stuff... Up the kitchy factor since it's amateur night...

Don't pay attention to the other girls up there. You're hot! And besides- you were too skinny before so now these 'extra' 20 lbs are just here to curve you up!

Get out there and rock it out!

ooh good idea. I should dance around my room and get used to actually standing on my own feet in the shoes and not holding on to a pole.

Kitchy music makes me cringe, but you are on to something...I think I'll skip the heavy industrial music and go for some more upbeat, less "WTF is this?" techno. Which will be extra-good because like they said in the other thread, dancing without a pole is basically sexy runway modelling! Techno always makes me feel like I'm posing for a Vogue photographer or walking in a couture fashion show anyway.

And besides- you were too skinny before so now these 'extra' 20 lbs are just here to curve you up!
uhhh...I can't fool myself THAT much! I do have a week to do lots of cardio and Bikram yoga and do a toxin flush, so that will help me feel and look a little better.

Thanks! You did help. I feel more excited and a little less nervous now.

I have to go through this all the time as I usually dance for a couple months then go travel in some some other country for a while and then come back, to a totally different club. It feels really weird switching scenes so dramatically like that! What really helps me is exactly what she said.. put on so stripper outfit, do your make up, maybe even have a drink and then dance around in front of a mirror until you remeber how fun and easy it is to be your super sexy alter ego. And about not having a pole, that would scare me too because I have very little balance while dancing if not holding on to something. I would just be super slow and sensual, and remeber if you look akward, its makes the "This is my very first time ever getting naked in front of so many people" (shy sexy look) so muck more believable! good luck babe!

You are going to do fine...you sound like an awesome girl . I know I was really nervous to start dancing again here in Colorado but it all worked out. Dancing without a pole was difficult at first but in the end it turned out to be a really good thing for me. It forced me to focus on the customers more instead of worrying about what cool trick I wanted to try next.

Bikram's yoga...is awesome! I LOVE it and it will for sure help you feel better about your body. I lost about 15 pounds before going back to dancing by cutting out most carbs and refined sugar from my diet and doing yoga/cardio 3-5 times a week. You will also tone up fast just by going to work. After 4-6 weeks of dancing my ass and thighs were in way better shape then before!

Were you able to find some cool dance gear on your shopping trip??

aww thanks Yeah I figure no pole and not getting to pick my songs will actually be a good thing for my money...I get so caught up in stage b/c I just fucking love performing, but I know it hurts my money. If I don't have a pole I'll have to flirt with customers to make my stage interesting, and if I can't pick my music beyond the genre, I'll have to be hustling the floor instead of being up in the DJ booth talking music all the time.

haha my costume shopping trip was epic FAIL. But I've got time, b/c due to other circumstances I have to wait till next week to do the contest.

as for the size thing...I know I do need to tone up b/c I am out of shape regardless of weight. But I've had an ED since I was about 13, so I honestly have no idea whether I'm actually too big for the picky clubs (*cough*PT's*ahem*) at 5'2" and 110, or if that's just the warped perception talking. I swear I look way bigger, but I really can't see myself accurately. I wish I could.

I'm feeling a little new myself.. I had a baby 5 months ago and, surprisingly, am back in shape already and raring to go, but am having serious "new club jitters" about it.. I think I'll be okay once I get on a roll, and pick up some shoes!

P.S.: Rammstein? I LOVE YOU! Mwah!
