Default Heaviest I'v e ever been and also the fittest

    WARNING:
May be triggering to ED's. I hope not as it's not intended to be.

I have been training with a personal trainer 3 times per week. My body looks more toned than it ever has before. However I just found out (weighed myself on two different scales) that I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life.

On an intellectual level I know it's from the gain in muscle. My body fat % is at 18% - my aim is to get it to 15%.

However on an emotional level Im extremely uncomfortable weighting what I weigh because it's the heaviest I've ever been.

Am I being stupid? I sort of know I am but at the same time it makes me want to give up the training.

This is why I hate scales. Go by how you look and feel. Numbers on the scale just psych you out.

Well, you already know the answer; like you want to weigh a certain number of pounds to look a certain way, not on principle, right?

I NEVER weigh myself. The only reason this happened is coz I did a fitness test this morning with my personal trainer and he weighed me. I knew I should have told him not to tell me how much I weighed. It's triggering for me coz I am recovering from an ED. I wish I never saw it.

You want a BMI of 15%? Didn't somebody say in another thread that the official perecentage considered anorexic was 16.5%??

BMI is diff to body fat percentage. 15-20% is considered athletic.

Honestly numbers on a scale are pointless. I seem to be at my best when I don't concentrate on the numbers, but rather how i feel/clothes fit.

Im really trying to be healthy and be fit but this could set me down the path of ED again. I hate to say it but it's true.
There is a powerful association in my mind that says heavier = BIG rather than toned or muscley. It's so shit.
That coupled with the fact that I saw some very unflattering pictures of myself recently.

normally i don't comment anywhere other than lounge or pics sub-forums but this question i can add input to!

don't be discouraged or put off by the weight gain. you're absolutely right that it's from the net "exchange" of new muscle mass with the lost fat mass. you should congratulate yourself instead because it can take a lot of fat loss (no offense) to trigger a net gain in weight, depending on the starting point of the individual, of course.

    i've been weight-lifting/training for over twenty years...uh, i started when i was 5. yeah, that's it!

anyhow, for most of that time i've weighed a LOT more than the "normal" or "healthy" weight for my size. many times people are off 20% when estimating my weight. it's all denser muscle mass. i look fine/athletic. it's just compacted like a spring.

i don't think it's you being "stupid" or whatever but rather our society fixates on the wrong "metrics". and we're just conditioned to expect "x-lbs." means perfect or healthy or "normal". we're all different body types and whatever.

if you like what you see (and trust me, you look fine. very fine! ), don't worry about the number. the metric you should use is just what you see and what you're happy with.

most of the people i see in the gym nowadays are more into "body sculpting" than strength conditioning or simple mass building, which is what most were doing when i was younger. people are going more for "nip & tucks" than sheer numbers and mass.

i'll have to admit, i'm happier doing the body sculpting than the number chasing. at first that wasn't the case (old dog vs. new tricks) but frankly, i see better results because the numbers simply don't always translate into what we'd like to see. don't give up! good luck!

definitely don't worry about it. i'm 5'6 130lbs and people are always telling me i'm so skinny and asking how much i weigh. they never believe me when i tell them. it's kind of fun to surprise them. besides, all that matters is that you look good right?

    thank-you that is encouraging.
My trainer also estimated my weight 4 kgs heavier than I was which I found offensive too. It's a touchy subject for me

I do realise intellectually all of what u r saying is true. It's just mental struggle coz of this stupid ED that makes me think irrational things.

I am 158cm and 65 kilos. 5'1", 65 kilos... whatever measures you use. You've SEEN ME, WOMAN. Scales DO NOT matter. WEIGHT DOES NO MATTER TO HEALTH OR THINNESS IN ONE IOTA OF THE SENSE. You should never ever check your stupid weight because it'll tell you NOTHING. Before you saw a stupid little number on a stupid little scale, you were happy with your appearance and size, weren't you? What changed? NOTHING EXCEPT YOUR PERCEPTION OF YOURSELF. You didn't suddenly gain ten kilos on that scale, did you? No, you weighed that and felt GREAT maybe 4 whole minutes before you put your emotional stock in a NUMBER YOU ALREADY HAD BUT LOVED BEFORE YOU SAW.

Your fat ratio is SUPERB. You are extremely fit and healthy and thin and small...

put it this way... a small block of pure lead can weigh 10 kilos. TWICE the size in feathers wouldn't even weigh one. Would you rather be a small block of lead or a giant bag of feathers? One weighs 10x less but that one is 2x bigger!!

So fucking what if a little tiny number you didn't even know existed told you that you weighed a lot? Does it make a difference? Really? Are you suddenly going to stop going to the gym and working your arse off because a number told you that you stuck to the ground firmer? It didn't tell you your waist size or your hip size or your breast size, did it? All it told you was your ability to not be blown away in a large gust of wind.

Weight doesn't matter, not one bit.

I've also noticed that I'm the fittest I've ever been, but not the slimmest. I'm sure it just takes time though. A guy on a martial arts forum tracked his weight loss for 200 pounds. There were weeks he went up 4-5 pounds, weeks he stabalized and then weeks where he'd loose like 8 pounds.
Careful, you might wake up a few pounds lighter tomorrow!

Nope, cause I am at 16% right now, and I am no where close to anorexic.

Please don't crash diet babe. This will only screw up your body and you will be fatter in the long run. It will make you lose muscle and begin gain fat from eating less. Please don't do this.
I battle with ED's too and I seriously understand what is going through your head but don't diet. Don't lose your muscle.

Me, too! I've been working out every day and I couldn't believe how much I weighed last week. I told a few people, some friends, my boyfriend, and NOBODY believes it. They all tried to tell me that scale was wrong at the gym. I guess I'm happier if my body looks good and lean, and I shouldn't worry about that stupid number on the scale. It's just wierd how I can weigh 15 lbs more than someone who is bigger than me!

I'm there, too. I've been working out consistently six days a week for the past six weeks. I've lost about three or four lbs. and I look trimmer and obviously more toned. My weight has gone up and down a couple of lbs. since I started and its all I can do to tell myself to keep going and I'm doing everything right. I seriously cannot pay any attention to scales and must accept the fact that my body is changing gradually and for the better at its own pace.
Please, just notice the positive things! Your strength has probably increased as well as your endurance. You're doing everything right and your body is showing it. Don't sabotage all your hard work!

The scale can for sure do a number on ya. It messes with your mind trying to tell you you're fatter. In reality you're not. I just use a measuring tape instead. It saves me the grief of having to get on the scale.

I feel ya. I'm sure you're also more amazing looking than ever though!

If it makes you feel better, I have friend that's naturally very thin. Out of swim season she probably weighed 120-130 lbs (doesn't seem that thin but she's also quite tall). Then by the end of swim season she'd weigh 140, even 150 lbs but would lose her period because she literally had NO fat on her.

Try not to worry about it (easier said than done, duh). Maybe dig out some before/after pics.

at 18% body fat I'm sure you look GREAT. Dont go by the scale...some people can be 105 lbs. and still appear flabby, or can weigh MUCH more and look toned and amazing. Every woman with a fit, muscular physique weighs more than they appear...guaranteed.
