    Default re-training regular

I met a good regular on my second dance shift ever. He spends good money and is very respectful but constantly wants to hang out on the floor.

I don't mind the occasional "having a drink for free" with a good regular who is buying dances from me (our club has no VIP) but the time:money ratio at the beginning was way too low.

Now that I am more experienced and know better, I don't know how to "retrain" him. I can't negociate because this guy views us as "friends" and I can't shatter that. Sometimes I'll use the "Oh, I have to get to work. I'd love to sit and chat longer but rent is due!" but I can't do this everytime.

He also keeps asking me to meet up with him for lunch/dinner before we meet at the club. I have done this in the past, for better or for worse, but only on special occasions such as his birthday or when we went shopping and he bought me an expensive gift. I can't keep making "I'm busy" excuses.

I messed up and I know better now. How do I fix this?

I think you can retrain a regular actually. I was in a similar situation. I met my regular as a total newbie and I used to do some dances for him and then he would take up heaps of my time on the floor too. Then I just had to start acting tough with him and I just started grabbing other guys for dances to let him know that I was there to make money. So then after about a year we were both tired of the dances. I mean it got a bit old, he knew all my moves haha. So then I told him he should buy "time" rather than dances. so now he pays me per hour. I no longer dance for him. He prefers conversation and to give me massages.

But he did and still does consider himself a friend too. He used to always ask me to do stuff OTC too but I always used the im busy excuse and believe me they do give up on asking after a while. Of course there is the risk that he will stop coming in to see you but I dont think it's too much of a risk to take because ALL regulars have an expiry date and one day they just dont come in anymore or it becomes very occasionally instead of weekly. This is what has happened to mine. It's been almost 2 years and he only comes in very occasionally now but at least when he does he spends about $600

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

I think actually what you're doing is right. Limit it to one drink, and then tell him that you have to see if anyone wants dances, and you'll be right back. If nobody does, actually come back for the first little while. As for meeting him - what's wrong with consistent "I'm busy" excuses? You are a busy person. Failing that, you could always arrange to meet him 20 minutes before your shift starts so that he can accompany you to the club.

Also keep in mind - any "retraining" can result in losing the customer. Is the spending/inconvenience ratio such that you wouldn't want to keep him as is? Just something to keep in mind.
