Default Emergency split end treatment- fast?!

I've been needing to get my hair trimmed for awhile but have put it off. As of last night the problem just seems to have exploded- I have split ends BAD. Is there anything I can do for it to make it look better for work tonight? I went to the nearest store and couldn't find any VO5. Any around the house remedies? Would olive oil work?

PS-I tried to do a search and had no luck.

Try a smoothing syrum and maybe curl your hair. The "curl" will likey hide the split ends.

Then afer you make millions tonight go get a hair-cut tomorrow!

    Coconut oil...miracle worker,IMO!
Use just a tiny dab and liquify it in your hands...apply to ends and they will be smooth and shiny.
When you have time, cover your hair in it and let it soak,it will help a LOT!

nothing can permanently seal split ends back together.....so coconut oil and smoothing serums will work, but only temporarily.

if you don't want to get it ALL trimmed off, then you can go through in little tiny sections and cut off the individual hairs that are split, about 1/4 inch above where the split starts. I just started doing this and IMO my hair looks healthier and I don't have to get a trim. My sister told me about it and she has beautiful hair almost down to her waist b/c she never fully trims it she just gets rid of the split ends.

There is no way to "fix" split ends. The only way to fix them is to cut them off. You can use a serum to smooth them down (think taping the broken hair together) but it doesnt fix it.

You have to cut off the entire split end. If you do not it will keep splitting up the hair shaft.

I have never found anything that works better than Biolage Fortifying shampoo and conditioner. Even the knockoffs aren't near as good.

I went to the store today and wandered around looking for cononut oil for 10 minutes until someone asked me if I was finding everything ok. Turns out they were out of coconut oil so I have yet to see what a miracle moisturizer it is. I was planning on using it on my skin after I get out of the shower but maybe I'll try using it to condition my hair too, if you say its that good. Does it wash out easily?

I used to have massive split ends and a great temp fix was redken anti-snap. Less than $20 and saved my hair from ugliness several times.

I have that. Its great at preventing split ends. Nothing can fix a split end. All girls that color, bleach, use a lot of irons, blow dryer, etc should own Anti-Snap. It's a great product.

If you don't want to lose the length yet, you can do a "temporary" split end fix - defined as about 2-4 months - on the ends using henna (which you shouldn't use if you've colortreated, and will turn your hair a new color, usually red) or cassia (which is clear).

hennaforhair.com has great info on using both. Cassia will give you a gloss and seal your cuticle shut and your split ends together, thickening your hair slightly as well.

Nothing will permanently fix it, though, so a trim may be in order. If you're worried about preserving your length, AND if less than 25% of your hemline is split you may consider snipping off your own split ends. Only use hairdresser's shears that you use for nothing else. A "white dot" close to the ends of your hair is an impending split, get those too, as it's too late for them. If you have too many splits, though, you'll thin your ends too badly and your hair will look stringy and thin, so just go get a trim.

Neem and castor oil are the richest moisturizers for your hair. Even better than coconut or olive oil!

The longer you wait to cut split ends off, the worse they get. Get that hair cut asap!

When I started dancing I had split ends, but rather than get a 1/2" trim to solve the problem, waited several months. By then my hair was so damaged that I had to cut 7" off!
