    Default $$$ for feature dancers.

I have read that the money for featuring is lower now than it was in the 80s/90s. I was wondering if this holds still for 'out of the ordinary' dancers. I mean like dancers that are top notch in their area of expertise or niche market?

I look at some agency websites and a lot of the dancers listed don't have any physical features that separate them from each other.. no offense if anyone here is listed! I don't know of any members here that fit the 'out of the ordinary' criteria so I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction for some information regarding this. I would really like to know if the money is drastically down for everyone or just, again sorry for the wording, "regular" dancers?

2 more question that don't deserve their own thread..

    1. Would it be considered a bad practice to email a feature agency and ask about the pay? This is a cash business but I don't know if this would be a tacky question to ask in the first email!

    2. Lastly, would it be unrealistic to drive to dance gigs if you are traveling with 2 or 3 small (less than 10lbs a piece) dogs? I have 1 right now and am on 2 waiting lists for future furbabies. I am on the understanding that features dance weekends so between private shows and club appearances I will still have some down time on my hands..

i personally would never want to put that stress and strain on an animal. but there was a girl i know who used to bring her dog to work every night bc her roommate was mean to it. what are you going to do with those dogs? take them in the club? i sure as hell wouldnt. leave them in the car? um, no.

taking on ownership of an animal is a big responsibility and i dont think that if you want to travel that its fair to own pets.

Um... I don't know if you're talking about you or not, but if you are...

I'm not trying to be rude, but do you have the qualifications to be a feature dancer?

As I've always understood it, feature dancers usually have experience in nude magazines or skin flicks or have won dancer championships.

Show breeders travel around the country for dog shows, so I don't think your statement is 100% accurate. As well as truck drivers and self proclaimed hobos. I don't know what kind of person would bring a dog into a stripclub or any club environment at that...

I plan on staying in hotels as I have been doing on and off for some time now. There are also doggy day cares around the country. Along with reviews to go with each day care center. So yeah... thanks for your concern for my animal(s) well being.

I know the credentials it takes to be a feature dancer. Yes I am talking about myself. And out of the ordinary features can also be a "reason" to be a feature. Magazine/video credits are a plus, obviously. Maybe my OP was clear, sorry.

well, you cant say that my statement isnt accurate, because it is. i said that *i* would never want to do that to an animal. you can't dispute that. *i* think that it is wrong to travel nonstop with a pet.

and you, uh, may not want to use breeders as an example. there are many die hard animal adoption people around here who arent too big on breeders.

also, you asked a question. i answered it. did you only want answers saying "yes, that's a good idea"?

I apologize for the misunderstanding. I can use breeders as an example for what I choose, as those of you can use animal adoption for whatever example you see fit. There is no reason I should have to censor my opinion on breeders because some you prefer adoption groups.

Reading some of your past posts, you seem argumentative, and I prefer not to argue about things that don't need to be argued for. Just to say that I have the right to give my opinion on something. So I would appreciate the threadjack to stop and get back to my original questions. Thanks for you comments and time.

So you're trying to become a feature right? I don't see a problem with calling agencies and asking what the base pay is. If you haven't featured before it might not be lot, even if you have some kind of physical feature that sets you apart from others, if you're new and unknown, you're new and unknown. The features that I know had to earn the higher base pay by being on the road, contest and print, etc.

I've traveled with friends who feature and you may be booked more than just the weekend, could be up to five days sometimes, depends on the club. and as for traveling with dogs, yes dog show people do it but you're gonna be at the club at night, I don't know of a doggy daycare that is open til 2 or 3am, you'd have to board them overnight at that point.

I see no problem asking the agency about the pay and/or showprices. As for the dog- well, i know a couple of canadian features who owe small dogs. From what they say- its pretty hard to be on the road with dogs, and a lot of clubs will not book you if you have pets. They actually have it in the contract saying "No Pets", because its the club who provides you with the hotel/motel room and they usually have some kind of agreement with those hotels. Most of them will NOT allow pets. Then its up to you to find the day and night care for your dogs while you are booked at that club. Makes it hard when you are out of town and far from home. Plus those pet care centres are pretty expensive, and with low show prices (especially if you are new to this) sometimes it wouldnt even worth for you to take that booking.
    just my 2 cents...

I'm curious to know what makes you "out of the ordinary".

I know a feature who travels with her dog. She brought him to the club with her, and left him in the dressing room, with her manager, while she was onstage.

I would go ahead and ask the agencies you are interested in. I am sure in your initial email that is one of the things you would discuss anyway as neither one of you want to waste any time.

As far as the doggies, I know of features that have brought animals. Life on the road gets incredibly boring and having an animal will definitely help. If they are okay with the traveling and if you have someone with you to care for them while you are in the club it shouldn't be a problem at all. You can leave them in the hotel where you are at and get a dog-sitter or a friend to stay with them.

As far as money being lower, it is all over the place but you seem to know what kind of payout you want to expect - just talk it over with the agencies and check around at the different ones. I know there isn't a ton of agencies for features out there. There is always something for everyone if you stand out in the crowd.
