    Default After work, Can't relax

I finish dancing at 2:30am and get home at about 3:00am. My mind is spinning out of control and I can't sleep. I finally fall asleep around 5:30am only to wake up 3 hours later...... head spinning.

I'm tried eating, reading to relax, ect. but I just can't and the next day is ruined because I'm so exhausted

How do you relax after work?

I have the EXACT same problem. It's actually one of a few reasons why I'm on earlier shifts now. It really sucks. Even if I do a bunch of relaxing things: take a bubble bath, glass of wine, read, take some melatonin, it still doesn't stop my head from going a mile a minute - it's like my head is still in party mode, and I just can't stop thinking about the night.

I wish I had advice for the both of us.

I like the idea of talking about work with someone, just to get all that crap out of my head. I'm always alone though. Maybe I'll try writing stuff down.

Maybe your body just needs time to get used to the hours? I used to have that problem, but I totally don't anymore. I fall asleep the second I allow myself to hit the pillow.

I used to sleep 2-3 hours a day, I was going crazy tired, by the end of the week I felt like I was going to get sick. So I tried out those hypnotherapy tapes, they worked for me. Not that I think I was being hypnotized but I think it was the sound of the voice that was lulling me to sleep. Anyway, now I'm up to 5-6 hours a day, yay me!

im the same way im so keyed up after work, and my mind races even though im exausted. i blame it on sensory overload. i walk my dog, eat some food and take a melatonin and go to bed. sometimes i dont fall asleep till 430.

i'm not suggesting it, but i take a xanax usually to fall asleep.

at my old club, i would stay long after closing talking with my best friend and her bf and a few other people. most of the time i wouldnt even get home til 5 or 6. i'm typically so wired that i cant fall asleep, or stay asleep, without taking something.

i wish there was something else that worked for me.

I'm the same way. I leave work physically exhausted, but i'm still on mental overload. It's gotten better over the last year. It takes practice to leave the events of the night (even mundane) AT the club. I used to replay almost the entire night in my head when I got home and would babble a lot of it to my boyfriend at the time. Serious mental overload.

Lately, I've been coming home and jotting down my numbers for the night, and then I eat a little, rehydrate, and read a book until my mind finally craps out.

Thanks girlies. I'm trying to wind down by reading stripper web and I think I might blog. That is a good idea!

On a positive note, I made $645 before tipout, $595 after tipout working just 4 hours, 10pm-2am! And I REALLY needed it because my thesis is due next Friday and I can't afford time to work.

^Actually yeah, that's the same for me.

I also think eating might keep me up. I'm usually really hungry when I get home, though, but I might try not eating to go to sleep quicker.

I'm not exactly suggesting it either, cause I know how irate people can get on here about "telling" people to use prescription drugs, but when I was dancing, a little xanax after work would be beautiful. I'd sleep soundly, and be able to wake up the next day without feeling foggy.

After all, xanax is designed to shut your brain off from racing thoughts.

NewMoon: Do you drink at work? I found that once I cut alcohol out of my life, I slept SO much better. It was that good, deep, renewing sleep - not that tipsy and passing-out type of sleep.

If I were you, I would try Melatonin about 30 minutes before you want to go to bed. I took 1 every night when I was pregnant and had trouble falling (and staying) asleep. Works in about 30 minutes and you WON'T be able to keep your eyes open

I don't drink alcohol at all. I might try a sleeping aid. Thanks for the tips

I would also stay up all the time. I never found anything to help me so I would just go into another club and keep working till like 6 or 7 or I would log on in here and eat something and eventually get sleepy.

Tylenol PM's help me out, but I dont take them unless I can get a full 8 hours of sleep. If you have to wake up early, I dont suggest it, you'll be a zombie.

I take diphenhydramine (Benadryl). It's non-addicting, makes me sleepy, and tends to keep me asleep longer.

It really seems to help me to talk and socialize after work, so I'm glad I have a partner who's a freelance writer and nocturnal like me (for the night shift, though right now I'm doing days.) If nobody's around, I'll go online and post up a storm here or somewhere else. Be warned though that bright light of the sort your monitor gives off can actually keep you awake: there are screen filters that take out the blue, which can prevent this effect.

Contrary to exotica268's theory, I find that the thing most likely to wake me up in the middle of the night is *not* eating enough after work. Like, my metabolism is burning super fast after a busy shift so a too-small dinner will steam off me like water off a hot car hood; I tend to need something substantial if I don't want to wake up with my stomach growling.

i.breathe.in, 5-HTP is an herbal supplement that will turn into serotonin in your brain -- I posted about it in the thread in Body Business. :-) (Don't take it to sleep, though -- take it to wake up.)

I always have a hard time winding down to sleep, which is why I'm nocturnal generally, but of all the remedies I find warm milk actually beats most things, including melatonin, for me. Melatonin is OK, but taking too much may cause you to snap awake after about five hours because the excess gets converted into thyroid hormones. I can't take more than half a mg; most of the pills they sell out there are WAY too much for me.

Another thing that does it as far as not lying in bed with my head spinning is chlortrimeton -- it's an allergy pill that causes drowsiness but milder than Benadryl does and it doesn't interfere with deep sleep cycles. But I need to take it right away like within 10-15 minutes before I lie down.

Try drinking some sleepy tea, I like the Traditional Medicinals Nighty Night tea.

    http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/?id=32&pid=38

A long, hot bath always works good to relax muscles.

Listen to chill music or relaxing sounds like waves and babbling brooks.

Valerian is a great relaxation, sleep aid.
