Default To skimp or to splurge?

So I ran across the "How much money is in your stipper bag?" thread and I have to admit, it makes me hang my head in shame!!! I've been dancing for around 4 years or so, and when I think of all the money I've spent on work gear from clothes to shoes to jewelery to make-up, not to mention salon visits, and general appearance maintainance costs, I simply cringe!!! So my question to SW women is this: What have you done to save money regarding work preparation? And what would you be unwilling or unable to compromise on?

I spend way too much on work clothes but it helps with my confidence and thus helps with my money-making so I think it's worth it. I've been dancing 9 months and I've spent about a grand or more on dance clothes and shoes. Mostly stuff on sale or second-hand.

    Skimp: home manicures and pedicures
clip-in instead of professional bonded extensions
    drugstore eye makeup

    Splurge: custom outfits
    frequently re-buy shoes
    bare minerals face makeup
tanning stuff (once a week in bed + expensive self-tanning lotion)

I think the only things that really could be expensive would be weekly mani/pedis and professional hair extensions, color and styling. Outfits are usually a one time purchase, and small things like eyelashes, lip gloss, rhinestone jewelry, and babywipes add up over time.

When i have the money I'm going to go splurge on some nice new makeup though, I realized the other day how much more confident I feel and look when I've done my makeup really nicely, and if I had a product that lasted longer and was better quality I would look and feel way better.
"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

I dont think I skimp on anything.

My outfits are expensive as mentioned in my previous post.

I get pedicures, massage, have my nails done every second week, get spray tans, buy fake tan, buy really good quality make-up, I have hair extensions, I buy new shoes quite frequently, have a personal trainer. Yeh i don't really skimp and I dont feel guilty about it either.

I'm not stripping just to pay the bills, I'm doing it to live a comfortable life and that, to me includes these things. I also save A LOT so Im not just spending all my money. Actually I save more than I spend.

There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.

Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

    I skimp on everything-
    drugstore makeup
    home dyejob
$10 bottle of self tanning lotion that lasts a month
fake nails, but get the colored&clear so they last almost 3 weeks between fills
    home pedicure
walmart for shampoo, barsoap, loofah& razors
1 pair of shoes every 4-6 months
2 outfits a month no more than $40 each
only jewelry belly rings I've collected over the years.

I just dont like spending anymore than I have to.

I don't really skimp on anything, but I try use almost everything I buy until it can't be used anymore to get my money's worth.

I don't need tons of outfits. I have like 10. But I will wear them until they don't look nice anymore. Same with shoes.

And my makeup is all high end, but again, I don't have TONS of it.

I do my own nails. My hair is pretty close to natural...I don't do extensions, and when I get it colored I get either highlights that are close to my natural color, or I do a glaze to brighten the hue. I can go for 3 months without needing a color touch-up, since it blends into my natural hair color. When the roots grow out, it just looks like it's naturally lightened by the sun.

I tried going with blond highlights once, and I couldn't believe the expense of having to get the roots colored every 4-6 weeks!

I also do my own makeup instead of paying the makeup artist at the club to do it for me. When I first worked in a club with a MUA, I would get my eyes done and tip him extra for explaining in detail what he was doing to get the looks. Then I took pictures after I got home, and with a bit of practice learned how to do it myself.

I also don't tan. No tanning beds and no self-tanner. Not so much a money thing; I just look ridiculously awful with a tan. But it does help me save money too.

And what would you be unwilling or unable to compromise on?
MAC makeup. I love doing really exotic, elaborate eye looks. Although I guess I do compromise on that one, b/c some nights I just wear fake lashes and a little bit of smudged liner. The shadows last a lot longer if I don't use them every night.

Oh, I know what I can't compromise on: MAC Full Coverage foundation. It's the only thing that covers my freckles, and words cannot describe how much I hate my freckles. So coverage is a MUST and I will not go to work without it.
