Default Looking for Feedback from Dancers

    Hey everyone!

As you can tell from the name and probably the profession listing, I'm a DJ at a local Gentleman's Club. Now I've DJ'd for several years doing weddings, private parties, nightclubs etc, but I'm realizing that most of that doesn't matter and that the Gentleman's Club is a whole new area. So I've been touching base on a lot of forums to try to get as much feedback and advice as I can.

Basically there's 2 big things I'm working on getting feedback for:

    1) How do you normally prefer to be announced?

    2) What can I do or say to hype the crowd more to help you make more money? or at least what have you seen work the best?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated =)

    Thanks!
    Bliss

I like when DJ's don't just say, "Here's *** on stage. It is so impolite and dead. What I like is when DJ's get into it like. "And to the stage for your viewing pleasure here is the one we like to call ***." There are many approaches but get involved but not too involved. I hope this helps.

One of my favourite DJ's announcing me something like this: "And here for your viewing pleasure is a lovely lady... sexy and sweet as always.... here is Julia!"

ditto^ say something that describes the dancers look/personality that will make the customer remember her by that "gimmick" or whatever. I hate when DJ's just say "here's Gypsy on main!", no one remembers or even hears that.

idk if there's anything you can say to make us more money on stage. I've had dj's say nothing when I'm on stage and dj's who go way overboard and keep telling custies "lets see some dollar bills in those garters!" "those girls are all hot and naked, working for you so so some appreciation!" blah blah blah... it doesn't work. IMO, I'd prefer it if the dj just be quiet when I'm on stage so I can focus on my performance and getting money from the custies myself. The ONLY time I appreciate the DJ talking when I'm on stage is when a customer does something really rude (like flick ice chips on stage, wad up dollar bills and flick them at my ass, sit there with wads of money in front of them and not tip)... I like it when the DJ says something witty to embarass them, because I can't speak loud enough over the music for everyone to hear my retort and embarass them.
"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

Whatever you do don't talk over a girl's whole set. Most guys can't stand that.

Thanks for the info thus far!

Yea, I never talk over sets as I'm one of the guys that if I actually were to go to a Gentleman's Club myself aside from work, I wouldn't want someone blabbing over the set, especially if I was getting a dance in the private rooms. I usually don't announce a 2 song warning, just a 1 song. That way you get 2 solid songs of music without interruption and whoever is next still has a reasonable amount of time to get ready. In between stage changes is when I announce the little promo's or whatever is going on. Once the next girl is on stage, I shut up for 2 songs and let her do her thing.

I haven't gotten into doing the witty retorts to embarrass an asshole customer just yet, but that's cause I'm trying to work out the more important things first. The only time I let the witty comments come out is during roasts (after all, it's one of my forte's).

I've tried relating comments or doing play on words to match a dancer's stage set but sadly most of the girls at the club I work, do not have themed sets. So I don't have too much to work with but Improv.

I don't know if this actually works, but our DJ's always say at the end of each set.

"She can be your private show! Don't be shy, gentleman, all you go to do is ask!"

I like that he reminds the crowd that there are lapdances to keep them on their mind..........

The most important thing is to ANNUNCIATE names.

Everything else kinda falls into place, just keep the groove going.

Oh and be careful of strobe lights, a lot of girls can't tolerate them.

i think that with djs, the customers prefer less talk, and i have to agree. i know some clubs the djs have to ramble on their drink special of the night or food specials like mine, but less is more. no one pays attention anyway. just clearly say the name and give a nice intro.

ps, please dont blast the fog machine in our faces, that shit stinks.

    Greetings,

If your club has more stages than one active, I find the best DJ's will pair girls together who dance to same style or similar music. This is not so much a problem for me as I can dance to anything, but many girls will get really upset or will loose their rhythm if they are a rock girl and you put them up with a girl that dances to rap.

Another thing you might do is ask the girls if there is something special they would like announced with their name -- in our club the DJ will usually mention where we are from (Mexico for instance), or a recent accomplishment (she's hot, she does some modeling on the side), or perhaps call attention to her specialty (she does a good pole show) etc. Talking to the dancers I am certain you can get one or two things about each of them.

My current DJ has strange little nicknames for all of us. They do kinda catch the customer's attention because they are so wierd. ex: "force of nature" "alpha female"

Anyway, my recomendation is to maybe keep a little notebook with each girls top 10 bands. A lot of djs will save playlists for each girl on their laptop too.

If you want some clever retorts, just search "asshole custie" and you'll find out all about all of the things that peeve strippers and ways we've come up with to deal with them.

Ditto on the fact that lots of talking can be really distracting. Especially if you're trying to do a VIP dance. Totally ruins the mood and will cost the girls money and lower your tip.

Again, thanks a ton for the feedback! <3

I throw mention of Private Dances and Champagne options every other set (like first girl of the shift comes up, finishes her 3 songs, I chime in about the dances, introduce next girl, she does her 3, introduce next girl, she does her 3, chime in on the dances) that way it's not repetitive and still reaches the customers that just came in.

As for lights and fog, I usually keep the purple light settings or a very little amount of color, and keep the blacklights on. We don't have fog, and I'd never use it if we did. This isn't a horror house, it's a Gentleman's club. No one wants fog blocking their view. Dunno why they'd have them unless a Headliner asked for it.

Thanks for the idea Sierra! Yea I've been trying to do play-on-words that go along with their names, and I have been mentioning their strong points as they come on stage (i.e. if they do really good pole tricks, if they really get the crowd involved, etc.). but the recent accomplishments or "side jobs" is a great idea.

Yea, I have playlists and a notepad already with favorite songs/artists listed. That was the very first thing I did, along with a list of "If you HAD to dance to this genre, what songs would you want?" That way if the crowd appeal shifts, I can play more of what they want AND keep the dancers happy.

    Thank you!

I worked at a club for a week that had a ghetto 80's middle school dance smoke machine. Every time I went up for a set, I was blasted with this cheap machine. It smelt bad and I couldn't see.

I personally like it when the DJs over accentuate everything they say like a game show host!!!

    ^ I'm sorry I'm soooo just kidding...

I personally like it when you keep it real and you don't sound like your on auto pilot. Like when you sound down to earth rather than sounding like a cartoon or a news anchor ... you know what i mean?

There was one place that lit up the stage all blue and ran the fog for one girl. It was awesome. It's got to be done to the right music, but it can be great. Generally, it stinks though!

I like that you have a list for the girls and follow it! I had to fill out a form when I got hired and today I danced to freaking Counting Crows.

I don't think much the dj says hypes the crowd. The music works (Is anyone immune to the powers of "Yeah"?) and can kill a room as well (see the thread Floor Killers). I have noticed that djs promoting the stupid bottle specials seems to work though!

Recently I had to deal with a substitute DJ who kept saying, "Put your hands together... Applause is free" but the customers, I think, only heard the "free" part, we had a lot of shit tippers that night. It was a cute remark ONCE, but after every song ... well, it embarrassed everyone out of applauding, for sure, and many of them out of tipping. I'm just glad I had a good regular in.

the djs at my club introduce us simply, and when a girl is getting off stage encourage the audience to get a lap dance from her.

if nobody is tipping a girl, or she's barely getting tipped, lines our djs use include:

this is a pay per view show gentlemen, if you're broke, go home!

you're not gonna get more scenery without more greenery!

and in very desperate times, "TIP THE GIRL!"
"If she wants to dance and drink all night, well there's no one that can stop her. She's going til the house lights come up or her stomach spills onto the floor. This night is gonna end when we're damn well ready for it to be over, worked all week long, and now the music is playing on our time. Yeah we do what we do to get by, and then we need a release!" - Against Me!, "Thrash Unreal"

I really like this too!! I would prefer this over a cheesy intro. It doesn't hurt to remind customers about private dances every now and again.

A DJ in Cali always used to say "She is here to break your heart and empty your wallet...Ava on the mainstage" LOL. I always thought that was a weird one.

the only thing (besides forgetting to announce me or forgetting my name/saying it wrong) that has really irked me is when DJs say "red on the head! fire in the bed!"

it's like. how clever do you think you're being? uhhhggg. the cheese. at least 1/2 the djs i've worked with have said this -constantly- when announcing me. luckily the two i currently work with do not.

my favorite DJ has a few different things he says for each girl, and he changes them after a few months. the stuff he says for me...

    "ravishing redhead..."
"the body incredible herself" <-- never gets old.

and he always mentions my "awards" doll of the year, doll of the month, etc. and both of the djs i work with right now are good about mentioning dances and rooms. i've actually sold rooms because the dj said "don't forget to ask her about our private VIP rooms" when i was leaving stage.

also, i don't like when DJs talk too much, but i do appreciate hints for tipping/reminding the customers we don't get paid. etc.

Ugh. That's just down right appalling to me. Who hired that guy? DJ's are supposed to be lively, not repetitive. I try to keep it as original and varied as possible (takes some serious dictionary/thesaurus reading lol). Ah well, maybe he was new and just lacked the ability to research? Eh, whatever.

As far as the If Broke, Go Home lines, I chuckled a bit. I'll probably use them. Having a lot of music knowledge, I usually play songs that reference paying them such as The Doors - Money, The Dream - Shawty is a 10 (repeats a line saying "You should tip her" quite often) and a few others. Figured it's like subtle subliminal messages.

"She is here to break your heart and empty your wallet...Ava on the mainstage"
hahahahaha that's great. I like it.

Wow... that's just awful. Yea.. most DJ's... err.. well most people piss me off, and that right there is a good example haha. Nobody is clever and they're all like over-used 1970's cheesy. Well.. DJ's at least . Guess that's why I've been doing well. Only problem I'm having is the Reggae ton requests since I have no experience or knowledge in that area, but that's why I'm printing out a list of favorites I found on a few forums.

I'm still going strong on mentioning private dancers, champagne rooms, and VIP packages, and actually scored 6 girls all hour and a half or more champagne's the past 3 days, so that's working out well. Specially since our club has been kinda dead lately. So it seems I'm going to jump back to my promoter years and use some grassroots tactics and stuff to draw in some customers. Might as well make a thread for that for great ideas haha

As always, thanks so much for the feedback and responses You're all amazingly helpful and I truly appreciate that.

I like when my DJ says my name and then uses the term, "The Blonde Bombshell". At first I thought it was cheesy, but it definitely draws all eyes to the stage! I think it's a safe bet to use some sort of flattering and descriptive term to make the crowd pay attention
