Holy cow?! This is pretty ridiculous, and I think our cops are getting overzealous with the use of tasers and brute force.

Well if he didn't want to be tasered, he shouldn't have been in shock with a broken back now, should he?

LOL Jenny....
Ugh...the excuse is that he was saying things like "shoot cops, kill cops"....does it really matter what someone is saying when they are OBVIOUSLY not able to do anything to you??
On the few occasions I've had to show my stun gun and the one incident I actually cracked it(in the air....not against someone) I stopped use of it once the person was no longer a threat to me. Even in the incident where I cracked it and the guy was still yelling shit at me..as he was WALKING AWAY. I had no need to pursue it further...he was walking away and was no longer a threat to me or the person I was with. Why is this so hard for POLICE to understand when a simple civilian like me knows that??

Police were insisting he was a danger because he was cursing them and not complying....hello? He's not complying because he can't move, and he's cursing you because you're fucking tasing him while he's already probably disabled for life.

Let's see, a call that someone is walking on the overpass. When they get there, the guy is lying on the street cursing/ threatening. Are the cops supposed to know his back is broken? He seems to have an attitude with the rubbish coming from his mouth.
Has anyone ever seen someone in diabetic shock? My neighbor suffered this twice on his way back from the store. I didn't realize it was him the second time and called the cops on a violent drunken driver. lol He crashed into a tree in the neighbor across from me, two houses from his. I helped push the truck to his driveway.
I agree. I mean, how can we possibly expect police to assess a situation to determine whether or not someone is about to shoot them without an xray? I mean, far better to taser first and assess later, when someone is lying on the ground, clearly not in their right mind. And when you are close enough to hear their muttering, why on earth would that mean that you are close enough to see if they were armed?
No. Far better for the population to avoid ever being seriously injured if they don't want to be assaulted by police.

^^^LOL Jenny. Well put.

If he's threatening, he poses a risk to the officers, he could become combative, so...taze him bro.
If he was in that much hurt, maybe he shouldn't have been threatening them. Of course, they could have just left.

Glab, one would assume that the boy was probably very immobile and unable to move (having a broken BACK for crissakes), which would have been easily assessed once the boy refused to cooperate because HE COULDN'T MOVE. Therefore, had I been in the situation and getting harassed like that, I'd probably tell them to fuck themselves, etc. as well.
It may very well be that the boy had a bad opinion of cops in general judging from what came out of his mouth (maybe a bad experience?), but really, he just fell off an overpass and he has cops harassing him. No wonder he doesn't like cops? How is he threatening if he's immobile? I'm sure threats from a 14 yr old who is probably close to passing out really don't count as threatening to a couple cops.
Yes. Because again - expecting police to show some judgment is expecting far too much. I mean why look visually - you know, with your eyes - at an injured teenager to see if he was a physical threat when you can just taser him 19 times instead.
Naturally. I mean if police don't think they can just assault everyone they see, regardless of any reasonably assessment of their safety, how can we possibly expect them to help a person seriously injured from a fall? I'm sorry my friends - being tasered is the price we pay for getting hurt.If he was in that much hurt, maybe he shouldn't have been threatening them. Of course, they could have just left.

Hey, I didn't even think of that! That makes sense.
Seriously...they REALLY thought a 14 year old who had just fallen from an overpass was a threat to them? So I guess I can just go around tasering and/or shooting anyone who says anything I dont like....hey..its legal in FL to shoot someone if they are endangering you. So how would I EVER know that the guy shouting "Fuck me baby" on the street isnt JUST about to rape me?? Yeah..better to just take him out.

Well, what do you think the cops are going to do? Fix him? All they'll do is call the paramedics.
I witnessed an accident, after helping the innocent person, the guy who caused it went berserk when approached/ asked questions. He seemed more likely to die than the former person. You never know. The unexpected can come to pass.
EDIT:: How were they to know he fell from an overpass? That was not called in.
It's entirely possible he wasn't in his right mind after experiencing such a serious injury.
Glam-They could just stand back and wait for paramedics. Duh.
The unexpected can always happen. But that doesn't mean cops can be so trigger happy just because "anything can happen."

Well, the boy was reported as walking along the overpass (I assume in some unsafe way) and when cops arrived they found him under the overpass unable to move and in extreme pain. What else do you think happened? I'm assuming a bystander or the victim himself was able to confirm the fall. Either way he was immobile and in a ton of pain, not a threat, and therefore does not merit "defensive" tasing 19 times.
Not wanting to be questioned is not the same as being a danger to people.
No. And this goes back to how silly it is to expect police to use judgment. I mean a couple called in that there was a boy who was walking along the overpass in danger of the passing traffic; they find him underneath the overpass, injured. Who would ever divine a "fall" from these circumstances.EDIT:: How were they to know he fell from an overpass? That was not called in.
For crying out loud. Police deal with difficult, not mentally stable people outside my apartment every day who say all sorts of things (and are perfectly able bodied) and never have to resort to harming them. This is not something that just every police officer would do. There is no possible way that a seriously injured, unarmed boy had to be tasered once to ensure their safety, much less 19 times. They didn't even claim it was to ensure their safety. They claimed it was for compliance.

OMFG! If they were unsure of his injuries and his ability to harm them, the logical thing would be for them to call an ambulance so that a competent medical professional could assess the kid. If, while the ambulance is on its way, the boy gets up and lunges at them with a weapon, then the taser makes sense.
It's really, really stupid to shock someone who is seemingly immobile. The jolts move a person who SHOULD NOT be moved w/o a backboard, and by someone with medical training at that. They have no way on knowing his medical status, and if the taser would exacerbate his problems. Someone who falls from an overpass likely has a medical issue.
I think the cops were angry at the kid for the words he was saying. So the fuck what? I'd hope that law enforcement officers would be able to ignore a 14 year old, even if he was being snotty. I hope his family sues these guys and that they get disciplined by the dept. This is not a rant against cops; I've known some very good ones. I think, however, that this particular pair are the bad apples that give good cops a bad name.

Also, I find it hard to believe the victim went "berserk" in such a way that the police felt in danger. COME ON. A couple big police officers against one 14 yr old boy who just fell from an overpass.....?
LMDD: sad thing is that the department seems to defend the officers, so while they might be forced to discipline following legal action, these officers still won't see anything wrong with what they did since the department condoned the action.
As was already said...they went out to begin with because he was walking dangerously on the overpass...its simple logic to assume he fell off it upon finding him crumpled and broken underneath.
And nobody said they had to "fix" him...but not making the injuries worse so he had to wait 2 days for surgery would have been nice.
I hope they get sued. Probably won't though. Police in my town get away with everything.

I wasn't at the scene. I doubt any of us were. Therefore, we're all basing what happened on secondhand information aren't we (or what tangent of that information fits our agenda, right?) I'm certainly not going to put much stock into an article on a website with an obvious slant to it.
The question I have here is why did the kid fall from the overpass to begin with.
Former SCJ now in rehab.
