I saw in the newbie faq about online pole classes, but for me that would only work if i had a pole at home. for those who don't or didn't have a pole at home when you first started, how did you learn the pole?

I watched a few videos online for technique and then the rest was experimenting at work. Start with the very easy stuff, once you are comfortable you can try harder things. Really most of mine was experimenting.

By humiliating myself publicly. A lot.

Entertained the lunch crowd with multiple crashed and total lack of grace!
Broke my neck too!
Then I got smart and actually started learning about what I was doing to my body and how to protect it so it still functioned after I was off stage!

i thought i could avoid making myself look like an ass. but i'ma give it a go with some lil things i see other girls do that i'll be capable of doing. like a spin or something. anything that doesnt involves climbing shouldnt be too hard to try?

Climbing the pole is actually easy. Just takes some practice, I just don't know what to do after I climb the pole, LOL.

i watched the girls at work and started with the basics..i didn't try any flipping upside down or hanging by one leg until i bought a pole for my apartment and could practice there

Home. Love it. Mostly experimenting. I was really amazed at how different the way you actually move on the pole and the way I thought it would be was.
The easiest spin the the "fireman" . Look it up and just practice when your club is slow. You get into it just by leaning your shoulders around the pole ( not by flinging yourself at it ). You let gravity do some of the work for you. I brusied my legs BAD by flinging myself at it during my one and only pole class.

i danced for years and didn't know how to do anything cool on the pole. just spin really, which is super basic and so easy that men can do it.
every now and then when the club is dead ask another girl if she wants to play around on the pole with you. that's how i got my practice in. then i just really watched girls and imitated them and presto, i'm climbing a two story pole and coming down upside down.
i still don't do anything too advanced, but guys come for intimate experiences not to see gymnasts.![]()

haha, what she said...
also, a lot of hardcore bruising & determination to continue to practice anyway...resulting in more hardcore bruising. like this:
made friends wonder whether i had a secret boyfriend that beat me nightly with a bat or something! lol
when it's really slow i'll nab one of the girls who is really good on the pole & we'll practice together during my set. thankfully i work at a club full of mostly nice girls who love to help & will even spot me when learning something dangerous.
good luck!

^^^ damn girl, be careful!
it would be dead for the first few hours at the club I first started at so lots of girls would practice on the pole then. Just ask a girl that seems friendly enough to help you out.
Since you don't have a pole, you can work on your general strength and flexibility by exercising at home. And, personally, I would never try anything new during my sets for customers - it risks injury and humiliation. If there aren't slow times for you to practice, ask if you can show up early (sometimes clubs have to set up before they officially open to the public so you might be able to practice then).
this thread is making me want a pole at home a lot! esp that website with the moves.
not sure how my male roomate's girlfriend would feel about that in the living room though![]()

I have been dancing for 4 years and still don't do the pole. I am thinking of buying one and learning, but I still won't do it at the club.
I dont know how, I know how to climb it but I don't know what the hell to do. One time I was drunk off my ass and decided to climb the pole (main stage) and try to swing down, I ended up falling right on my ass and tried to make it seem like it was part of the act and just layed down and arched my back. The next day I had a big ass bruise on my ass.
lol iris ^^
i have a similar experience, i climbed the pole, was wasted, came down on my head, not super hard, but def not what i was going for.
i attempted to "incorporate" it into my act but wasn't much i could do.
i don't know how bad it looked, no one said anything afterwards, but the DJ like immediately called the next dancer up, hahaha. thank god that was like 6 months ago and i can totally laugh about it now. at the time it was embarrassing and and my head hurt!![]()

Pole+alcohol=ouchies!
Practice without until you know how to do it safely and well![]()
I learned a long long time ago at work! Girls would help me when I first started when it was slow in the club (the first club I worked at we all had to be there at seven when it opened)
There were too little side stages with poles and they helped me. I just learned by doing it. Don't be afraid to try/make mistakes just dont do it when the club is really busy.

Sometimes I wish we had a pole at my club. Not sure I'd be brave enough to try some of those tricks just yet, but in the future, I think it would be fun.

No pole at the Men's Club? Boo!
I learned by watching other girls, then when I got my own pole by watching videos on youtube and just practicing over and over.

Hell, I've been dancing for over 2yrs and I still haven't even CLIMBED the damn pole lol.
Some Douchebag: "[Pimp C] 12:43 am: its true we got to stick together the black people on SW CK you is teh condoleeza of SW"

I've just started practicing during the last hour of slow weekday nights. I'll either pull another girl up there with me for moral support, fuck around on my own, or ask someone that knows what they're doing to help me with the more difficult stuff.
Seriously, it's not fair now the shit looks so beautiful and easy and it is NOT! I just taught myself an upside down move and I shake when I do it because I'm so scared I'm gonna fall. But it's a rush... so i do it anyway!
