    favorite designers?

Lately I've been getting more and more fascinated by fashion design, and have developed a healthy obsession with beautiful individual clothes and details.

So what are your favorite designers, and why?

I only ever wear dresses, things with a lot of lace, detialing.... Maybe I tend to be overdressed, but it suits me. As a general rule, I know if i go to BCBG i'll love their stuff. They seem to have a lot more dresses than a lot of other labels. I also adore Betsey Johnson, though those dresses are somewhat less practical. Its all in the textures. Poking around online, I also saw some casual dresses by Elie Tahari that are SO luscious! I also love vintage Gunne Sax dresses, for a change. I'd love to find some nicely tailored vintage suits, but i don't even know where to look, because i always get distracted by something beaded, silky, and form fitting.

Desinger handbangs, shoes, whatever, I don't tend to get into... Its hte dresses and the textures that have me captivated! Sole exception being my favorite pair of Valerie Stephens gold/burgundy lace heels, that I have to take to get repaired, which will sadly lower the heel

I'm kind of hoping to get some "new" talent to look at from this... I come from the MOST un-fashion forward family EVER, so i'm kind of starting from a "nil" background.

And i'm insomniac. Its not a good combination.

I was a fashion student for a while and am also nuts about fashion history and ridiculously elaborate frocks that I would never have a reason to wear even if I could dream of affording them.

Fashions of the 1890s were fucking awesome.
    Paul Poiret was amazing.
John Galliano is generally pretty incredible (I believe he shares my sentiments on the fabulous Poiret).

Pretty funny coming from someone like me who usually wears jeans, knee length sensible skirts, t-shirts and cardigans in drab colours.

Ever since I was a little girl I've loved "period" fashions. Soooo much fun to research! I think thats why i love the Gunne Sax dresses. They have that feel, but I can get away with wearing them around town.

I like galliano, though there's very little of his stuff I've seen that I would actually wear. I need to look up Poiret.

I hadn't realized that that was a valid major! I actually have been being harassed a lot lately to go back to school... did you enjoy that major?

OOhhh fashion!! I love fashion!! I shoot ads for a local boutique and she's opened my eyes to all kinds of lesser known names that are really awesome. linQ, Jill Stuart, Mint, Milly, Mimi Turner, Susana Monaco, Miss Davenporte.....

And since I'm a guy (figured I'd throw that out there...haha) the stuff I love wearing are some lesser known brands like Monarchy and Laguna Beach Jeans (don't get me started how everyone and their Mom wears True Religion). I love catchy stuff that is interesting and different.

I'll have to look them up. Are they primarily casual wear, or do they feature really detailed dresses in their collections?

It depends. Some are more casual daytime type dress things and others are more nighttime. Not too much with lots of detail, etc. I find that dresses like that (at least ones doen WELL) are usually more towards the Haute Couture end.

Sigh. Trying it on WOULD be nice first. Figures, all the coolest designers are awesome-the two that you recommended for dresses both made me drool. There's one of hte grechs dresses I would TOTALLY rock, and SEVERAL of the Perry ones. Amazingly enough, a number of hte perry ones looked like they'd be flattering on me. Normally that's my problem-I am rpetty small, but have extreme curves for the proportion,so either the waist first and the chest and hips are huge, or the hips fit but the boobs are baggy, and the stomach looks pregnant, and the permutations of fuglyness are infinite. I'm very finicky about which styles i feel re flattering and balancing for my body type.

Drooooooool. I am tempted to save alllllllllll the money i can, plan a vacation down there, to buy a bunch of dresses, and then come home all pretty!

really? I thought u guys got them a lot cheaper coz I see those websites like eluxury and the stuff is a lot cheaper. Also on Sex and the City Carrie always seemed to be paying about $400 a pair for her Manolo's. BTW does anyone like Manolo's? I think they look cheap and ugly on the most part.

I was thinking about Louboutin's. I think Manolo's run just a little bit cheaper but I totally agree and don't like them so much really.

I LOVE Betsey Johnson. Her stuff for one is built really well for petite women (IE short lol). Beyond that her stuff is just so frilly, girly and fun! It's all just cute cute cute!

I don't really care for Manolos. I like Jimmy Choos, Louboutins, and occasionally a Dior or Gucci shoe.

I am loving Diane Von Furstenberg anything right now. So chic and flattering and never goes out of style.

I've been a Betsey Johnson fan since high school. I used to go crazy for her dresses- I still remember that I bought my first BJ dress at Pentagon City while on a sunday museum trip.
Anyway I love her accessories now more than the dresses- so loud and out there.

Some of my other favs are Cynthia Rowley and Blumarine- very ladylike and girly.

Also give me Dolce & Gabbana or Roberto Cavalli for some fuck me sexy clothes....I don't have any YET but my first D&G will be their iconic corset dress and a hot handbag. I've always loved Italian clothes more than French or American. The only American designer I would spend big bucks on is Ralph Lauren. His high end stuff is major.

Yesterday I discovered German designer Philipp Plein....I'm in love.
