Default For all you hairdressers out there!

My blonde turned out super brassy. I tried using Dream Blonde single process high-lift today b/c I chickened out of bleaching it and it just turned my roots very orange. The bottom is still not affected. I need heavier artillery. The highlights were put yesterday.

I got Loreal Superblonde lightener and a 40x developer from a beauty supply store- I got the 40x b/c, while my hair isn't super dark, it is very resistant to highlights and lightening. I had my hair lifted professionally once and it took like 2 hours with the pussy developer she used.

Should I get an "Ash" blonde to tone it afterwards? What are your fav brands?

This has to happen tomorrow, as I have a photoshoot on Friday that I have to show up blonde for.

Here is a pic of it now-

Get the blue shampoo that you use to take the brass out of blonde put it on at night with a showercap before you go to sleep, rinse out in the morning, and it should take the brass out. xoxo

use a blue shampoo but dont leave it TOO long cause it can seriously stain your hair.... if it does use a clarifying shampoo

Are you planning on applying the decolorizer to the scalp? If so, please don't use more than a 20 volume developer, you will develope a chemical burn.

Honestly, I don't think you need to use anymore decolorizer- a level 9 demi permanent with a blue base will do the trick... just apply it while your hair is damp and only where you're orange. Watch it as it developes, you want it to take on almost a gray cast while it's wet, then immediately rinse.

Ok, I got the level 8 demi perm ash blonde (they had no level 9 that wasn't perm, and I dont want to fuck with perm anymore) and another cap so I can put some more highlights in.

I also got the no-red drops to put in the bleach when I give myself some more highlights (which I think will help make this orange mess look a lot better)

^^^does the demi tell you what colors are addded to it? Like, does it just say ash or does it say blue/green/violet anywhere?

Blue. The color cream that cme out was also very blue.

I should have known when the color form ytdy was a staunch white color...the two mixes that I used the day before both were blue tinted and my hair came out perfectly blonde.

I normally have a very warm skin tone and ashy colors look very greeny-weird on me, but hopefully this will all go as planned.

    Mia, you're a lifesaver!

    Two questions-

Can I add no-red to my conditioner?

And its been 15 mins (the longest it says on the box) and nothing has changed. Should I leave it in until it gets the grey cast, no matter how long? I have very thick, resistant hair.

Don't know about the no red...

Yes, let it stay on and wait until you get to that gray-ish hue... remember, you're applying it to damp hair so it takes a little longer.

BTW, if it comes out a bit too ashy for you don't panic, by the time you shampoo tomorrow, it'll be just right.

Can I add some heat to speed this up?

I'd rinse, blowdry, and see what you've got... if it hasn't changed in an hour, heat won't make a difference. A level 8-9 blue demi at the shampoo bowl has always worked for me, but I use a specific professional color line (Redken) and every color line is different.

You did mix your demi with it's corresponding developer, right? I'm sure you've already done this, but just in case...

Yes, I did everything right b/c I had a guy that works there help me. Everything is the same brand, what it says to use.

I have naturally auburn-y hair anyways, so I guess its just grabbing that.

This dye actually made my blonde dark-oranger, so now it looks like I have auburny light brown hair. Manageable b/c its very close to my natural color (I have freckle lol).

I'm going to wait a bit and get it foiled, and see what I've got after that. It looks very fake b/c its just all one color right now I only put it on my scalp but almost all of my pretty highlights are gone!

Exactly what brand did you use and how did you mix it? Are you absolutely certain it was a 8 blue/ash?

Please don't try putting anything on your hair with a 40 volume developer after recently having highlights.

In my experience demi always takes one shade darker and ash another shade darker. Do you think it ended up taking more like a 6 or 7? I wonder if there was any green in the demi.

^^^ seeing a darker result is typical whenever you correct with a demi... with a blue base, she should see a darker, ashier tone- not darker and/or more orange. A little green added to the blue probably wouldn't hurt, but honestly, a blue based color should've made a signifigant change to the tone...

I used a Clairol demi color in 8A. It was "ash" based, and the actual dye was a very blue cream.

I've actually used the Clairol professional from Sally's on my grandmother and notice it seems to pull more red than other lines. The reason I like Aveda color so much is because we add in our own tones gram per gram so it's specially customized to suit your specific situation. If I had to buy from Sally's again I probably choose Wella over anything else in there.

Wash it with a clarifying shampoo three times and see if fades a little bit Aubreyy. I'd wait a bit before putting any sort of bleach on there again though. After fading it a bit with the clarifying shampoo and deep conditioning you could try another line in demi. I'd recommend the 9 demi like Mia suggested. If I couldn't get that I'd get the 10 demi with a blue base.

When and if you get another demi mix the new formula together throughly, apply and emulsify through your hair. This shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes and you may not even need to leave it on that long.

I plan on getting another one, hopefully they will have the 9 demi in stock in the Wella.

Can I just say the clairol pro site sucks ass... I logged on and I clicked on the color chart and it won't show me a goddamn color chart!!!

Anyhow, terms and names like "ash" aren't industry stadardized... typically, ash means the color has some kind of blue or green added to it's not a gaurantee. For example the Neutral colors in Redken's demi are brown+blue+violet, hardly what most would consider neutral... That's why I asked if the box indicated specific colors on it... the color that comes out of the tube doesn't nessacarily denote what the color is. A lot of the warm copper reds in redken come out of the tube white and oxidize to a purple, even though the end result is a warm copper red.

Watch out for level 10's if you want to use it on damp hair... the pigment weight in a level 10 may not be heavy enough to counteract the amount of warmth you have... proceed with caution if you use it on dry hair. Your application needs to be FAST and accurate.

I went back and got some violet shampoo and some kind of little packs of violet dye to add to the bottle. I'm alternating washing my hair that and a clarifying shampoo and will se what I've got at the end of the week.

THen I'll either get it foiled, or try to tone it again with the demi 9.

    Sound good?

Violet will only cancel out the gold/yellow tones. Blue cancels out orange and green cancels out red. But the clarifying shampoo sounds like a good idea.
