    Default Car wash confusion

I've never been one for making my car shiny-I just drive it through the carwash and am done with it. But now I have a nice, red car (not new, but cute!) and I want it to be shiny! What do I need to do to it to keep it nice? I don't have lots of time, but does it need waxing or something? How do I keep salt from jacking up the underside and the paint in the winter? Are the extra services at the car wash worth it?

I'm so clueless about this stuff.

Make sure to wax and buff properly this will help a lot. Wash the car yourself, and get it washed if you see any build up. Follow that up a few times a year with some wax and it'll be super shiny. Don't forget the black tire magic too...you want the wheels to look at sparkly too.
I don't like auto washes, but it does for me at this time. I just have an element, it wasn't meant to be shiny....LOL.
    I'm not who I say I am.

Go to one of those autowashes that has a bunch of features. You can wash the undercarriage and keep your car sparkly with a high gloss finish. Go maybe once every two weeks. Although I don't know where you live, I personally wouldn't bother washing my car in winter, plus my locks would freeze

wash and wax for the shine. think of it like a shoe. you can wipe it down and clean it but to get the gloss/shine.

Do you want to just take it to a car wash?

Do you want to do all the work yourself?

    Or maybe something in between?

I have some car washing supplies from here:

I'm not big on washing my car, but I don't trust automatic car washes not to damage it and to do a good job.

If you have access to a hose and a driveway, get the products and do it yourself. Invest in some good products once and don't waste it on a carwash. I'd kill someone for access to a driveway and a hose. A pressure one at that. Damn.
