    Default chiropractors:

my back/posture is seriously fucked from dancing & sleeping in awkward positions. i was wondering if anyone has had a positive experience in treating perma-slut-position dancer spine with chiropractic work? or has it messed it up more?

i need relief! i've been slacking on my stretching & yoga but want to get back into it to realign my body.

The last chiropracter I saw was the biggest waste of $85. All he did, was literally pull my leg. I just splurge on massages once or twice a month instead.

i see a chiro about once a week (it's covered by my insurance but the insurance co gives such hassle) i have tmj and so adjustments really help with that...i've always seen a chiro though but i can't imagine not going to one, especially now that i'm dancing.

i have tmj as well, but have never seen a chiropractor. my dumbass doctor just gave me some pain pills & told me to go to big 5 & get a football mouth guard for when i sleep. wow.

i wonder if it's covered by mine as well...do you have blue cross?

yeah i have blue cross, but i have a ppo too.

i notice if i don't always go, my headaches come back and my jaw pops and i can barely open my mouth. but even after one adjustment, the popping usually stops and i hardly get headaches.

i love, love, love chiropractic! My chiropractor is fantastic, he does massage and accupuncture and adjusts more than the spine - collar bone, wrists, head, all sorts of stuff. It seriously rocks!

Something else that's GREAT. Go to optp.com and buy a pvc roller (better than foam). When you can rest the length of your spine along the roller and focus your breathing into your kidneys (gets deep into your diaphragm). It has a healing affect on your nervous system and your back. I swear by it.

I highly recommend pilates. Not only is it good for strengthening your core and taking pressure off those back muscles but it helps your posture trendmendously as well.

Mine is a good friend of mine who treats me (and my dog, lol) for free so I am blessed in that aspect. I know I have wicked back problems from dancing, now more so with carrying around a 24 pound baby, so after his visits I do feel alot better. He does a full adjustment every time. I also have some shoulder issues and those are clearing up slowly. I couldn't function well without him and because 'regular' docs don't have a kickass track record with treating back pain it is a lifesaver to me now.

as far as alternative medicine goes, I'm more of an advocate for acupuncture. it can fix your back pain, posture, and overall health permanently

I advocate chiropractors (make sure you really look around and find a good one...don't just go to the first guy/gal you find). I think you should do chiropractic with accupuncture and do pilates, as well (or yoga).

Then you change your diet and feel better than you ever have.

I had great results with a chiropractor but my father did not. He swears that it made his issue much worse but it was a life saver for me. I don't really like the whole jerking, popping thing involved in chiropractic services but I was in alot of pain and had tried everything else prior to the chiropractor. It ended up being the only thing that helped me so while it would still not be first on my list of possible treatments should I have a problem again it is now on that list for sure.

Ditto about accupuncture. I just had my first experience a couple of weeks ago and had my second session yesterday matter of fact. OK, so it was for hemmorhoids but YO it works!! And it doesn't only fix the symptom, it goes to the root of the cause.

However, I still advocate the foam roller (optp.com and meltmethod.com) and pilates with good instruction.

Yeah, I worked in an alternative medicine clinic for years and most of the patients got better results with a combination of exercise specifically for back muscles and acupuncture than with chiro (not to knock it, but we got many patients that had gotten chiro first, with little results). There are great chiros out there, but without the soft tissue to hold your spine in place, your back will only go back to crap in time, in my experience

What qualities should you look for when interviewing the find the right one? Iv'e never been to a chiro, but it's crossed my mind plenty of times. I want to find one to start working on my body while it's still in halfway decent shape.

Edit: I found the answer to my question: How to Select the Best Chiropractor

VG: I still want to know what questions you ask.

I mainly ask where they went to school, why they chose to get into the Chiro field, how many years they've been in practice, who they interned with, what their area of specialty is (some specialize in pregnant women, children, etc), what form of chiro they prefer (the deep popping adjustment where they pop the joints into place--or the softer, more gentle form of soft pressure adjustment), how many people they adjust that have your problem, do they advise other forms of rehabilitation in addition to chiropractic, etc, etc, etc.

Hope that helps. Also, just like everything else...you have to have good chemistry with your chiro. If you feel uncomfy or whatever, find someone else.

Ever thought about seeing a massage therapist for tmj? It might even be cheaper than going to a chiropractor.

(YES this is a shameless plug. Massage is what I do...it's in my blood.)

i've never done consecutive rounds of massage therapy & the massages i have gotten have been totally hit or miss. i had one amazing massage in napa that fixed my posture, decreased my anxiety & depression, & made my nighttime grinding stop completely for an entire month.

the two massages i have had in san jose were pretty bunk. yeah, i slept well THAT NIGHT but everything was back to normal by the end of the week.

i think i'm gonna go on yelp & do a search for a good one. i prefer a massage with results lasting after the massage, not a wussy feel-good spa treatment.

I like using a chiropractor. Especially for lower back and/or neck pain. The thing I've learned about chiropractors is that they will try to continue to sell you treatments, even if you feel better.

Just like a stripper with her regulars, a chiropractor depends on his regular patients to keep his cash flow up. Don't just blindly following his/her instructions. Do what feels right for your body.

Otherwise, I also recommend doing yoga or Pilates for proper spinal alignment exercises.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!
