Default Any tips on getting rid of self-tanner?

I've been having good luck with the L'oreal Sublime tanning gel. The only problem is that after three or four days it starts coming off. I would like to remove it all and start over, but no amount of scrubbing will remove it. So I put more on and now it just looks bad. Do I have to wait for it to come off on its own or can I hurry it? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

a pumice stone takes it off. i cant imagine doing that to my whole body though. ow.

in the future, try exfoliating regularly and make sure your skin is super moisturized bc that may help it stay on more evenly. the exfoliating will take some of it off but i figure its worth it for a more even color.

I went to the spa for a nice thorough full-body scrub treatment. Felt great, and I had my real skin back with no more dirty-looking mottled spots. They scrubbed me so hard I was pink all over for hours!

Dang, sounds like the only thing that works is scrubbing. I was hoping there was a special soap or something.

I used to use Loreal's Sublime gel too. It does fade leaving you with crocodile like skin. I found moisturizing every night before bed after I applied would make is less splotchy and make exfoliating it easier.

I finally switched to a self tanner that didn't fade with that crocodile effect.

Anyone familiar with the L'Oreal lotion like cream? I used it for the first time the other day.

Now I'm scared it'll come off like the gel does!

my spray tan lady says: dry a towel on the line so it's super crunchy and dry - then rub it on dry skin... hey presto... bye bye tan.

Here' what I do, and I self tan all the friggen time!

Shower, scrub with baby oil (exfoliate with it) when you get out, and you're still damp, use the dry towel on areas of your body that still have tanner, rub in a circular motion and the tanner should come off in little beads. You may want to rinse again right after to get these off if you plan on putting more tanner on.

This works for me every time.

Well, you know you need to tell us which one this is? Especially for those of us who are addicted to trying self tanners!

I am so luvvin the sun labs one right now. The one I bought is too light, so I'm using it up and then I'll get the darker one. But the smell and everything, it rocks.

Self tanning addict says... put St. Ives Apricot scrub and dish soap on a big wash cloth and scrub. Always works. Moisturize every day you don't self-tan to prime skin. Do not moisturize before self tanning.

Where are your problem spots? Mine are always my upper arms.

I actually work in a luxury tanning salon. We have the Mystic Tan there, but I used to use self-tanners for years.

    How to strip sunless products:
Grab a lemon or other citrus fruit and roll it on the counter.
    Slice it in half.
Dip the cut end in salt or sugar.
    Gently buff away!

I know some people do this, but stay away from baby oil, as it's a man-made oil that can often cause more harm than good - i.e. clogs your pores and makes you all greasyyy.

    In the future:
Prepping your skin prior to any sunless application is KEY. Your skin exfoliates naturally in an uneven pattern...your skin cells literally push one another out of the way. You need to create an even canvas for your sunless product to glide onto.

Exfoliate immediately before applying the product...make sure your exfoliant does NOT have moisture beads (like a lot from Olay or Dove) or any mineral or coconut or olive oils.
If you can't find one dilute that nasty cheap apricot scrub (it's marketed for the face, but it's too harsh...mix it with some body wash and then buff gently) or purchase one made for sunless users (Mystic Tan makes one that smells fresh and clean).
Focus on hands, feet, ankles, elbows, knees, and neck.
Dry completely - forgo moisturizers, or you'll have a patchy look since the sunless product won't absorb evenly.

    Apply your sunless product.

    Let it develop.

Later on, use a moisturizer without any nasty oils I've mentioned. Your skin needs to stay hydrated whenever you use a dihydroxyacetone product as the actual reaction your skin has causes dryness.

Sorry this was so wordy, but it's FOOLPROOF. :-)

Thank you! I'll try this next time.

The baby oil worked for me, but I didn't do it often because of what you said, my skin wasn't always totally happy a few days later.

Thanks Aubergine and Andygirl, I was about to post on this very thing today.
I hate the inbetween stages of self tan. I use those rough fake loofah sponges to scrub mine off but it hurts.

St.Tropez does a self tan remover, anyone know if this is any good? Good enough to switch to St.Tropez for good? Does it work on any self tan or just thiers?
