I'm so fusturated with weight, what if i just eat 800 cals a day? Why is it that i'm starving myself? I don't work out, it should just be okay. WHy will it ruin my metabolism. arghhhhhhhhhH!

Because your body thinks you're not getting enough and holds onto what you have. If you eat more and more frequently your body will use it properly for energy and it will also use your stores. I've been eating alot more and definately seeing a difference already after about a week.

I went on a 600 calorie a day diet recently for 2 weeks and lost nothing,zilch,nada. But i was constantly dizzy and faint, and barely had the energy to get out of bed.
It will majorly slow down your metabolism because you need more than 800 calories just to have basic bodily functions in a day.
I used to think that was a load of crap but my experience has proven to me that it is true.

I say - don't bother with calories. You'll drive yourself crazy.
Eat normal - just watch your portion size. Cut your portions in half. You WILL lose weight.

Unfortunately for some people the warnings go in one ear and out the other. They don't care how ill they get or what problems they cause as long as they lose weight (I was like that myself sadly).
Hopefully now I have brought out the perspective that I lost NO weight even on a starvaion diet, I can reach those people.
go to stumptuous.com There go to iron, then dieting,then dieting 101. This is a female nutrionist/weight lifter. There is will give you an approximation of calories you need to a) loose weight b) maintain weight and c) gain mass
I've found it very helpful and it has worked so far for me.
Make sure you're exercising too...that is equally as important as diet for your overall health

You might lose weight temporarily but it'll come right back and back really quick once you start eatting more again. You're just fucking your metabolism up basically.
You don't want to do that. I was super anorexic (like literally and not in a joking way) for years and now I can't eat more than 1400 calories a day to maintain my weight of 120, and trying to get back down to 110 has sure been a bitch. I posted on here a while ago about doing 600 cals a day and that was stupid. Take it from me, you don't want to live like this. It sucks balls.





I've been eating minimally for a while now, and it's not a smart thing to do. Talk about sluggish... can't think straight, dizzy... none of which are good for working on a stage. In heels. Newp.

I totally understand how you're feeling. I've had this rant myself... I tried to convince myself it was a brilliant idea to live on Jell-o - you can guess what a silly idea that was.
The above posters are right on. You will screw your metabolism, body, etc. Plus, it'll make you nuts that the scale is just staying there, despite the effort. (It's like it's mocking you - LOL) Find a good sensible diet that works for you, exercise faithfully, and watch your stress (that's a sneaky one). There are a lot of good tips in this forum.
Yet, I know this is a rant and I've shared your frustrations. It will be okay.

Yeah, i know, im just so freakin' fusturated. I will go to that website and check it out. It is just so fusturating because I don't want to start the whole "working out way of life". Nor do I only want to eat whole foods and stuff.
Well since there's so much testimony going against low calorie diets, i guess i will be cautious not to enter the low calorie world. Argh!

most women with a normal metabolism shouldn't eat less then 1200 calories a day. you should be getting at least 25 g of fiber a day too, which helps you feel more full. i buy the natures own whole wheat (not enriched wheat because its just like white bread) plus fiber, i only eat whole wheat pasta, fruits, veggies, keep your fat content below 15g per meal, and tons of lean protein. i try to eat at least 75 g of protein a day aslo.

I try to eat all day long - small snacks/meals constantly. I can't even eat a 'normal-size' portion of food anymore.
Snacking like that keeps your metabolism in overdrive. That truly is "the secret", IMO.
My first week of dancing, I would feel all shaky and sick and weird....and it was from not eating (I was too nervous). Now I literally remind myself to eat something every hour or two, like I would if I was at home.

Agreed. My twin was like that for a bit, but ended up getting so sick from the flu she was near hospitalized and all that lack of calories that your body just basically needs made her skin look like absolute shit. Also her hair fell out. I tried telling her how you NEED calories to stay healthy and look good. Yikes. She barely even lost anything (what she did lose she gained back tenfold). She is kicking herself in the rear end now.
Me, I eat 6 small meals a day. If I skip I get shaky and irritable and I just feel rundown. Portion control and keeping your metbolism up are two key things for overall health. I don't always eat perfect, but I try my best so I can eat 'imperfect' on occasion.I also found a energy bar that tastes decent - the Power Bar Triple Threat, Caramel Peanut Fusion. They give me energy, fill me up and have good nutrition.

I read from Tom Venuto's "Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle" that you shouldn't
have a caloric deficit of more than 20% of your overall calories burned. Let's say that through daily activity, you burn 2000 calories (which is about what I burn when I work out vigorously for an hour a day, at 5'2 and 120). You should eat no fewer than 1600 calories a day.
That tip alone finally solved the confusion between "Cut 500 calories a day to lose a pound!" and "You're not eating enough!" Yeah, it takes a little longer to lose the weight, but then at least you're actually losing it.
