my bf lives for vaseline. he's got severe dry skin during the summer.
i'm not a fan of the goopy feel, but he doesn't have problems with it.

Denise Van Outen (UK TV Presenter-with amazing skin) swore by it a few years back, so I tried it. It probably works but made my dogs fur stick to my eyes, so I stopped.

Vaseline just sits on the layer of skin. So, it 'feels' like its moisturizing. I apply EVOO to my face and I apply castor oil to my lashes.

It works reallyreally well and my grandmother swears by it. She looks 50.

If you're not getting pimples I don't see a problem with your use.

Petroleum isn't moisturizing. It doesn't contain any moisture; it is lubricating so it has a smooth appearance on the skin. Think about it; PETROLeum is petrol, the same petrol (gasoline) used as car lubricating oil and fuel. Besides petroleum has large molecules, thus unable to penetrate the skins surface.
It is not bad but it doesn't contain any skin nutrition and it can clog pores. I say do what works for you! Most people swear by vaseline and I even I still use it sometimes.
I've heard that about old people swearing by it and looking younger-- I wonder why it works, or how it works that way?
I use it onmy feet when I give myself at home pericures. Makes them reaaaaaaally soft. I also use as chapstick whenever possible and overnight. I wish I could put it on my face but Im scared Id breakout, so maybe I will just try it on the corners of my eyes since the skin isnt oily there.

vaseline doesn't moisturise of itself, it just holds the moisture in.
no good for naturally oily skin types because it will trap your own oils. however, if you're dry skinned... woo hoo... helps out if you're in a blustery, wintry paradise, or trapped under airconditioners all the time.
i just forget to use it - damn, i could look 1 if i tried.

Um... sorta, not really.. you're not putting gasoline on your face...:

I always use it on my feet. Nothing else seems to work for me, I end up with unsightly whitish ashy feet, so I stick to Vaseline which leaves them soft and moisturized. Some people use it alone on their bodies but I can't stand the stickiness. I mix it with my body cream or lotion and it works wonders on my skin without the stickiness. Also an amazing lip balm and hair moisturizer on its own. So many uses.

I remember hearing bad things about petroleum but don't remember what. I use coconut or castor oil now. Castor oil does wonders for calluses. SW turned me on to castor oil.
Vaseline seems to greas to put on your face, I'd be scared that it would bring me out in spots.
I, too, have heard horrible things about petroleum. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find it.
I think you'd be better off using Jojoba oil, vit e oil, evoo, or one of the others recommended.
EVOO ?Rachel Ray strikes! (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
Petroleum jelly breaks me out. It probably works for some people who have very dry skin and need a layer of something to keep moisture in their skin.
I'd never recommend it because it does trap/attract dirt and dust...And clings to skin. Uck!
Natural oils are as cheap as Vaseline or close and penetrate the skin.
(Badger Products makes a great balm for people who have chapped hands from hard labor jobs....No one really needs to use petroleum jelly anymore.)

vaseline is an emollient, just like all the oils everyone is listing. none of these moisturize by "absorbing", they all just keep the moisture that's already there from leaving (which is nice after getting out of a shower). try it out, if it doesn't bother your skin, then go for it! EVOO or one of the other food quality oils may be better for you in the long run... but hey what doesn't cause cancer these days?
