    Default Sweetbread

Sounds so nice, doesn't it? But it's actually the thymus gland and pancreas of lamb, beef or pork. And I tried it. Along with veal, salmon, escargot, and a whole slew of other stuff. Me, the picky ass vegetarian tried all of that stuff during a 10 course tasting dinner with TOO. Yep. I had dinner with TOO, followed by a visit to his favorite strip club. Wht else as I going to do in DC?
We hd so much fun! TOO is a lot different than he is percieved on here. The night started when I was picked up and had a Lush gift waiting fo me in the car. Then we went to this beautiful restaurant where I tried so many different foods and actually enjoyed them all. Then we went to his club...so very different than what i as used to. No lp dancing. No vip rooms. No sluttiness. Just stage dancing and company. and hot girls.
I had so much fun tipping all the girls on stage and seeing how very different strip clubs are inother parts of he country. We had so much fun and it was great to get away from the frind i was visiting for awhile cause he is driving me crazy. This kid has said some of the most uisulting and fucked up things I have ever heard. So I was happy to get away from him for ahwile. We had so much fun at dinner and at the club. It was awesome. he's a lot of fun, and the second male SW'er I have ever met. Unfortunatly, I was only in DC for overnight, so the other swer girl i wanted to meet i just didnt have time. I caught hell for going out that night as it was. ( rude to go out to dinner with someone else when I was with a friend on vacation) So sorry I was unable to meet everyone else, my time was short.

Anyway. Aside from that night and meetign TOO, vacation was fun and destressful and fucked up cause of this boy. he has insulted me onso many levels and he is the most obnoxious drunk. Luckily, I get on a plane to go hoem in an hour. But that's another story I'm glad I went on this vacation..it was good for the transition period. Ad now I can say I ate the pancreas of a pig.

Sweetie, it was a true honor and genuine pleasure to finally meet you. You are so overwhelmingly beautiful in person that I was momentarily speechless. And you know what it takes to genuinely shut me the hell up, even for a moment.

The girls at the club never stopped talking about you all night. You light up a stage, even while next to it, and nobody could get enough of you. Every time we'd all go to the mainstage to tip, the girls would gravitate straight toward you.

You saw what happened when we first walked into the club, right? I mean aside from the typical screaming ( ).

I am so proud of your culinary bravery. It's true the variety was all over the map, but you were a trooper, and as a vegetarian, nothing short of heroic. And now you have a sweetbread story. But you did love it, right?

You should have enough Think Pink Lush to last you through your nursing board exams. It's important to be relaxed and have the right mental attitude walking into exams like those. You have so much talent and intelligence that mood is the only thing we have to watch.

    Have a wonderful trip home.

Ok. I want to make something clear right now. This thread was about a dinner and meeting of another SWer. The only difference is it happens to be with a contraversial member. I will NOT have a TOO debate in this thread. Those debates bore me and I have never been a part of them and won't be a part of one now. so that shit stays OUT.
If you feel he is bragging, feel free to think that, but don't taint my enjoyable thread with the bullshit. it's tired, it's old and it's repetative.

    thank you.

oh, and on the Lush. I asked if there was a Lush store in DC because I was on the hunt for a lush store somewhere in my travels. He said there was a store and we could swing by but there was no time to stop before dinner so he offered to stop and pick me up a few of my favorite things before dinner. Since the comforter is my favorite thing, he picked out the think pink set.

I'm so glad you were brave to try the foods! It's my dream to go on a dinner date with TOO, he seems like the type that would just have the best taste in food and wine, not bitch about anything AND notice when you wear a nice dress for him. Every girl needs that kinda date ONCE in her life!!!

Tell me more about the magical foods you tried!

Heroic? For going against her values of not consuming animals? That's heroic? I think not. I think it's sad. And, it's definitely not something I'd want to brag about.

I'll save PB some writing time and give you some visuals as well.

Here is a link to a description of the restaurant and their general philosophy:

Here is the exact tasting menu we had, including wine pairings -- we are lucky it's even up right now, because the chef changes it about twice a week:

As I recall, her historical diet choices were less a values issue than a health one. Also, she had already begun to experiment with other meats, including steak and fish, before our dinner.

As I've written elsewhere, to an incredibly picky vegetarian who has strictly avoided meat for years, I think it was pretty impressive that she was willing to try, all at one sitting, a whole range of other options (albeit small ones -- it was a tasting menu).

I mean, I've pretty much avoided eating insects my whole life, but I've never had the courage to sit down to a meal of lice, ants, flies, maggots and assorted other larvae. It's too bad -- I probably should!

I admire people who are willing to try new things, particularly all at once....

TOO will you please take me to a nice dinner sometime where I can have the pleasure of wearing a pretty dress I had to buy just for the occasion? It's something I've -always- wanted and the one time I had the chance, I was stood up (after spending $300 on the dress! ).....

it just all sounds so dreamy and that resturant sounds so nice. I'd love to have dinner sometime too! <3

The dress I wore was bought at Goodwill. I was so scared I looked rediculous, because it seemed like an old lady dresss and not my style. But it worked out ok.
The restaurant was great. I have always loved going to good restaurants, although I have never been to one of that caliber.

    As for the food.....

I was born a vegetarian, oddly enough. I have neer eaten or liked meat. I don't know why. I was just always very very picky. My parents were meat eaters and hated how picky I was and that they had to make speicla food for me because I wouldn't eat what the rest of the family did.

Lately, I have been annoyed with myself for my pickiness. I live off pizza and mashed potatoes. I am embarassed when I go to dinner and we have to look at the menu first to decide if I can eat there or not. I often have to get up and leave after seeing a menu that has nothign on it I eat. It's embarassing. It's annoying. So I decided to start trying new things.
I started with chicken. I had rotisserie chicken and it was the first type of meat I have ever tried. Then on vacation I got very very brave and tried filet mignon. I really hate red meat and swore i would never try that. But I did and it wasn't bad, although I would never order it and eat it, I realized it was't as scary as I thought.

When I arrived at the restaurant with TOO, I explained to him my pickiness and he was worried and wanted to talk to the chef and see what we could find for me to eat. He had planned on ordering the tasting menu, but was going to nix that idea so I could eat what I like. Then I told him about how I have bene wanting to try new things and I asked him to order the tasting menu, because I wantd to try new thigns and experiment and see what I like.

I didnt go against any values, and certainly didn't do anythign to try to impress TOO. If anyone knows me, they know I would never go outside my values or beliefs to impress anyone.

I saw the perfect opportunity to try new thigns at a good restaurant where the food was quality and prepared correctly. What better way to try new foods than at a place you know it will be the best?

I was extremely proud of myself for trying everything. If my memory is correct, the first dish was some kind of salmon stuff. I tried that followed by the escargot and somethign else I forget. That was very brave of me to try salmon. I have never had any type of meat before. I was to scared to try.

Anyway. It was good for me to try new things and step outside of my comfort zone. It goes far beyond just a dinner and trying foods...it's empowering to know I can try new things and stop being such a wuss. I hav a lot of new things I have to try in the future with other areas of life.

And goddamn it, I wish I didn't have to defend myself so much on this. I had fun. I tried new things. I'm proud of myself. I met a cool sw dude. We had a great time. We went to a strip club and saw hot chicks and had fun. I got to enjoy a Lush bath for the first time in a year. I missed my Lush, it makes me so very happy and relaxed and calm. That's all that matters. Not my food choices.

I got to feel special and important for a night. Everyone should get to have that feelign one in awhile. In the comming days I have to face the scariest thing ever in my life. It was nice to escape that for a night and just enjoy myself and feel special.

I enjoyed all the food I tried except for the veal. I really didn't like that, and althoguh I'm not a vegetarian for animal rights..the veal pushes that. I would never try it again or eat it again, aside from not likign how it tastes, I just cannot agree with eating that. TOO didn't tell me what sweetbread was until after I tried it, he was right. I would have never been brave enough to give that a go if I had known what it was! It wasn't bad, actually. I ate several bited of it even after I knew what it was. I had to, just to proove to myself that I could.
I prooved to myself that all the foods I was afraid of aren't scary, and arent as disgusting as I thought.

whew. Anyway. I had fun. He had fun. I was brave. I am proud of myself. And now I gotta go back to reality and find a place to live in the next 3 days.

Oh, and Lys...TOO is much better looking in person. His pictures do him no justice. He is much more handsome in person. His personality reminds me of yours. Very excited and energetic and funny. I would love to have dinner with both of you!

    born a vegetarian??

i think i'd call that born not liking meat. A generic term for both vegetarianism and veganism, as well as for similar diets, is "plant-based diets".

i'm pretty sure the pizza you're eating isn't plant based. mashed potatoes homeade??? if it's instant then it's just "potato" flakes ya know?

People have a right to eat the diet they want and also to change their minds about what they eat. And to be left alone about it.

PB, I'm glad you had such a great time. You deserve it. TOO, you are a lucky dog.
