    I believe it is buyer beware in most parts of the US. Especially if you dont have anything in writing.

    I think FBR is right. We bought a few old cars for the kids to drive, but took them to a mechanic first before buying. If you skip that, I don't know if you have much recourse. I suppose if you feel the seller grossly misrepresented the vehicle you could try small claims. $3000 is about the range of what can be reclaimed (it varies).

    Did you look up the Kelly Blue Book value? $3,000 seems cheap for a Mercedes, even a 1994.
